    Yep,
Pet Sounds is the official antidote to depressing. One note from any song from this record and you are in heaven. God Only Knows where we would be without the Beach Boys and our
    favorite music.

I find it the opposite. It's Brian Wilson losing his grip and the lyrics and arrangements reflect that.

Damn, you got Pet Sounds for a dollar from Goodwill? What a deal!!! Whenever I am feeling down, I listen to Marvin Gaye, “What’s Going On,’ any Police album, any REM, IRS record (usually MURMUR), the genius of the Cure’s Disintegration album, Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue’ album, any Smiths album, Talking Heads’ ‘Speaking in Tongues,’ and lastly A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Low End Theory’ album. Any of these albums off the top of my head are my go to albums when I am feeling a little blue. Many of these artists and their works have been a calming force for me during these tumultuous times we are living in. I own all of these records on your list and am a huge fan of all the artists. A cool list and a needed topic. Thanks for doing it!!!

Hey Dillon, I'm a new fan, my mom got me a starter record player, I'd never spend a lot on a record and spin it on it. However, I've been watching your videos, and you've gotten me into some psych I've never heard before. I think you're a good dude and love your taste. I love a lot of different genres too. I'm big into noise rock and alternative country. My first loves were metal, punk , and grunge and I still love it. Thanks for what you do and how you do it. I've been watching since Xmas time.

Hi Dillon, loved the thread, very thought provoking. Music is made to make us smile. Totally agree on Funkintelechy, that is an album of joy and fun. Angry Records do make you Happy, Sex Pistols always makes me smile. Miles Davis puts me at peace along with some classical. Music soothes our soul. The album can be common, it is about how we relate to it. Great stories as always.

I don't know why but depressing music makes me feel better. I think reminds me that things could always be worse, which is always true. Maybe that's why I love Pink Floyd. I’ll just say that Axis in stereo is definitely a more engaging experience but the reason the mono is so well loved by some is that the stereo can be a little exhausting. The benefit of the mono on this album is that you can just sorta relax and appreciate the songwriting and you also don’t have to be sitting in one spot to get the effect the songs can have. It’s a luxury secondary option in my mind because I do play this record all the time and I like to have that option.

I can completely relate to your time in landscaping. I did that in the summer of '95 and the music I listened to on my walkman got me through mowing all the parks in the region. '95 was a hell of a year for music, too. I listened to a ton of Guided By Voices because the box set of their early albums was released along with Alien Lanes. I also listened to a bunch of Flaming Lips. I played everything they had released and then capped off the summer with Clouds Taste Metallic. The Amps' Pacer was another '95 staple.

I'm so psyched you mentioned the "Freaks & Geeks" scene! In that scene, the main character had gone to a guidance counselor who was kind of an old hippie, and knowing she was having some hard times, recommended that she go home and listen to the Dead's "American Beauty." She goes home and puts it on her turntable and we get to see her reaction, and the sheer joy it brings. Not only did that scene give me even more appreciations for that album than I had before, but it's also one of the very best depictions of what discovering music feels like I've ever seen, whether in a movie or on TV.

    Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
    Tochter aus Elysium,
    Wir betreten feuertrunken,
    Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!
    Deine Zauber binden wieder

    Great vid Dillion....thanks for posting.
Axis: Bold As Love 👍. Great choice and I totally agree with your stereo vs mono comments....need the stereo for Hendrix!
I’m glad you talked about some of the ones that were more sentimental for you....I agree, those are the ones that turn your day around and they are very personal....
For me, I would add the following sentimental choices....
Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
    Neil Diamond - Moods
Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Loved most of your choices, with the exception of Pet Sounds - ugh....I’ve just never got that one....Ok, done with that.

No particular order, but here is the kinda stuff I'd put on to try to cheer me up a bit --
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses.
Happy Mondays - Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches.
    Thin Lizzy - Chinatown.
Woody Guthrie (he gives me hope), or maybe even some Arlo.
Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction.
Low Fidelity Allstars - How to Operate With a Blown Mind.
Sultans of Ping - Casual Sex in the Cineplex ("Where's Me Jumper", what a fun song).
The Frank and Walters, whatever album or EP suits me at that moment.
Bob Marley - Babylon By Bus (but there's also other LPs of Bob's I'd could listen to in that mood).
The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
They are by no means necessarily my favourite LPs at all. I don't really normally listen to music to really cheer me up. I'm just not looking to be that happy a person !
Actually at the moment I'm finding myself listening to -
Dave "Black". Please... everybody should watch / listen to this amazing tune - czcams.com/video/mXLS2IzZSdg/video.html
KRS One "Sound of da Police"
    N.W.A. "Fuk Da Police"
    Almost any songs by Anti-Flag
    etc., etc.
Racists Don't Love Music, Music is Multi-Cultural
    Anti-Racist, Anti-Sexist, Anti-Fascist

Love this vid, Dillon! Your passion for music and vinyl is so awesome, but I totally get it. Just got Hendrix “live at winterland” 2xLP set in the mail today, and it’s so killer. I also love any RHCP up to BSSM (got a German press), and own all 1st pressings of their albums up to that one. I’ve got a mono press of Axis, but NEED the stereo UHQR copy! D’you happen to have an extra? I’ve got some pretty rare records I could trade. 😉
My happy music is Pixies, Bad Brains, Morphine, The Dead, MM Bosstones, Coltrane, Hendrix, and a few more.

I was 17 when VS came out. I waited in line all night at the record store to get the CD when they opened. Too bad I didn't buy the vinyl. I have a reissue now. Great album! I saw them later that year. Sick show!

Great vid... (LOVE Freaks and Geeks! I bought that album... my ONLY Grateful Dead album, based on that beautiful scene in F&G!!)
My list of albums that make me feel good would include:
BEACH BOYS: Pet Sounds (Totally agree)
    THE ZOMBIES: Odessey and Oracle
THE CHILLS: Submarine Bells (Martin Phillipps is the greatest song writers nobody's ever heard of... or the New Zealand Bob Pollard)
    MENOMENA: Friend and Foe
DE LA SOUL: 3 Feet High and Rising
    KRAFTWERK: Autobahn
XTC: English Settlement (Classic album from my generation's Beatles)
THE DUKES OF STRATOSPHEAR: 25 O'Clock (speaking of XTC... has there ever been a better 60s album created in the 80s? Genius.)
ROBERT POLLARD: From A Compound Eye (so many great songs!)
THE WONDER STUFF: Eight-Legged Groove Machine (WHAT a debut!)
THE SUGARPLASTIC: "Bang The World Is Round" (Can't keep a smile off my face when listening to this)
...and if that doesn't do the trick, just listen to France Gall doing "Laisse Tomber Les Filles"... which might be the happiest sounding song I've ever never, ever gotten sick of... czcams.com/video/3Qjlfy0uLIw/video.html
