Your friends are right - Danes can´t get enough of hearing about their own odd habits. Parties where everyone brings a dish (Sammenskudsgilde = "chip-in-party") is common in close circles, big and small. For a family get together maybe the host does the main dish, another family brings starters, another desert etc. Being a single person without a car, I´m always in charge of the Champagne for new years eve with 10 friends. Sammenskudsgilde can take many forms. For our big 30 persons summer BBQ every family brings its own meat (sausages for the kids, steak for the adults) + one side dish for the common side dish table. But of course you can swap meats with people too.
O wow happy to know that potluck party is also a Danish culture and has a name 😃
I really enjoy these parties and how it brings people together!!! Thank you for your comment 😀
Really liked your comment about "job respect" 👍😊👍 ! I'll miss my garbageman, before I miss my banker 😁 !

@@KritiPrajapati Starting to follow!
Every guest bringing food to the party is called sammenskudsgilde - collective bringing party. It was invented during the world war 2 rationing period, so that the host should not need to get black market ration coupons, or go with out meat for weeks. In the austirity of the post-war economy it remained so. It got a huge revival in the collectivism of the 1970'ies, where you would se guests doing the best to impress each others with the most hip and fantasy-full creations.
Thank you Simon for your comment. I definitely didn't know the history behind this. Really appreciate it!
