I didn't swim in the deepest part of the Atlantic, but I did swim in middle of the Atlantic, which is very, very deep. I must say, it was incredibly surreal. Everywhere you look is a deep cerulean blue until you look down, which is a pitch black that will swallow your soul. I could only handle it for about 20 minutes before the idea of a great white shark rocketing from the deep drove me back on board. There was no shark, of course, but the thought of it was impossible to ignore.
Would I do it again? Yes, yes I would. It was an amazing experience.

I just saw an earlier Doodles episode with two temp crew (one girl from Netherlands and the other from Spain). Taylor is really a breath of fresh air. Of course she's a beautiful girl, but, more importantly, she's good crew. She seems to pull her weight whenever she can, she's eager to learn, and she's also thankful to Bobby when he fixes something that makes her life better. What a difference!
Good luck to Taylor on her channel. She deserves every success.

I’ve once dived the blue hole with a group because I’m a adrenaline junky and heard of the many deaths that had occurred may they Rest In Peace I had to dive it’s no where near as deep as this as far as I know the max was 140 metres if I’m correct I only went to 80-90 metres until I wanted to stop it was very humbling looking down and seeing the darkness staring right back at you it could make you stop breathing just in the moment but other then that INCREDIBLE dive and I would one hundred percent go again

First, let me say I think your old sailboat is absolutely beautiful, and I Iove it inside and out! It reminds me of the beautiful classic cars out cruising towns across America on weekends.
Now a discussion for everyone: why do people hold their noses when jumping into pools or fresh water? Every since I was a lifeguard and swimming instructor in high school until now decades later, I have not figured that out.

My friends and I have a tradition , every time we cross to Bimini (from miami) weather permitting we always jump in when the depth goes above 1k feet . The trick is to dive down as far as you can and look up if you can go 20 feet down you will be swallowed by the black. Below you will be dark blue water and above you the water will be separating the available light into shafts of light it is a frightening but amazing experience I love it. If there are people that have a hard time getting down I set up the kedge with 20 feet of rope and have them pull themselves down it’s tons of fun. And yes our friend CJ always thinks that I’m going to be eaten by a shark

Watching this on Jan 1 2024, it is so cool. For the record, I really appreciate Taylor. Seems to bring out the best in Bobby as well. It has been fascinating to watch how you experienced 2020 and the onset of Covid, vs my situation. I was thankful to be retired in a great house with a loving wife/partner and have all the resources. But we were totally isolated and scared. In hindsight your island experience with just a little care was the best way to experience a global pandemic. We now know that socializing in the open air on a beach was inherently safe. If you kept grocery store visits to a minimum and masked and used hand sanitizer you were very low risk.
I have managed to avoid Covid, staying vaccinated and ongoing social distancing has been effective. But is has removed a big part of my retirement dream which was to travel for pleasure. I won't get on a plane or hang out in crowded places. If I was a younger, I'd sail. Ideally with a young crew, if everyone on board did get sick, you'd likely have some members with immune systems able to cope and keep the boat safe.

@@lyman135 you are right of course, but in my defense... i was drunk and she is pretty awesome. I comment out of a deep admiration for her and nothing more. Sometimes, I feel like expressing my feelings. Even if they are fleeting and temporary. But as an adult, I should learn to keep my feelings to myself. Because videos are only meant to inform and educate. They should never invoke feelings or change a person's emotional state. Then the video would be art. And no videographer would ever want their videos to be art. Wait, I am doing it again. I am sharing my 3 dimensional opinion in a 1 dimensional world. How dare I?

Electronics that use a voltage converter are really for use in your home. If you check them with a meter you will find they change 120 a/c to somewhere about 14 to 22 vdc. It's of little consequence because you don't need them on a boat or in a car. If you wire the jack that you plug into your laptop center pin (+) outside (-) and plug it into a cigarette lighter your computer will work just fine as will all the other stuff you have on board. Electronics has a circuit inside that changes the voltage to fit the electronics inside. Most of them step down the voltage to 6vdc from whatever the input voltage is. That's a lot off amps you won't be throwing away converting 12 dc to 120 vac and back to dc again.

Yeah... There's a reason electrical buses are isolated. If the potential between hot and ground on the first bus is low, measure the ground potential difference between the two buses. If you're seeing a small voltage difference, then you have either a weak short on Bus A or a partially open circuit with the ground of Bus A. Either way, tying the buses together will only continue to drain your batteries, and since either your breakers or fuses aren't doing their job, if it's a weak short it could potentially start a fire.
By all means, consult with a qualified electrician, FIRST.
In the meantime, here's what I would do:
    1. Turn off all electrical equipment. If anything is hard-wired to your electrical system, then pull that item's fuse or circuit breaker.
    2. Start your engine.
    3. Disconnect the batteries.
    4. Measure the voltage at the batteries: _____
    5. Measure the voltage output from your engine's alternator/generator: _____
    6. Reconnect the batteries.
    7. Measure the voltage output from your engine's alternator/generator: _____
    8. Measure the voltage at the batteries: _____
    9. Measure the current flowing into your batteries: _____
    10. Measure the voltage on the hot side of all buses: _____, _____, _____, _____, etc.
    11. Measure the voltage from battery negative to the ground of all buses (disconnect any bus cross-ties you've installed, first): _____
These steps should provide you with enough information to figure out whether or not you have an open ground, an open supply (hot), or a short circuit, as well as where.
    12. Turn on electrical equipment one at a time and note the new voltage and current outputs from your engine's alternator/generator.
The changes in current as each piece comes online should be close to manufacturer spec. If it's significantly off, you may have a short in either that system or an open circuit or partially open circuit in the line leading to it.
    Good luck!

Was this a small Navy ship? Mine was a large vessel and we never could do a swim call.

@@huskidawgs yes it was, I was stationed on a destroyer (DDG) when I lucky to have the swim call over the Mariana Trench.

Hey Bob, I have seen a generator that you can tow behind the boat directly into your batteries for emergency. You probably already know that, but figured I would mention it.

The swimming was fun - that's why I clicked - but I recommend you edit out all the generator talk. Or you could make a separate video for generator enthusiasts...

Wow that sunset looked pretty awesome there at the end. Enjoyed the video but that is just too far out in the ocean for me.

A bit odd, but I found that the electrical repair was fascinating. Also cannot believe how blue the water is.
