    As we're getting closer to the full bedroom reveal, one thing I needed was a new headboard and bed frame. But styles that both were beautiful and functional for renters were either too expensive or non-existent. So in this video I DIY an easy, custom wingback headboard and matching bed skirt to achieve that high-end upholstered bed frame look for around $200 ✨

    I find upholstery so satisfying! I reupholstered a 5 seater lounge suite, made a custom upholstered window seat and an enormous tufted headboard.
    I found using curtains to be a less expensive way for the headboard. I used ones that were almost identical to the fabric you chose. They were rubber backed blackout type but that didn’t give me any issues.
    I used foam mattress toppers doubled up and inexpensive polyester quilts which saved a lot on the price of foam and batting. I scored one foam underlay and one king quilt at a thrift store for about $5 each. I sprayed antibacterial spray on the foam and let it sit in the sun for a few hours and washed the quilt and let it dry in the sun. I also scotch guarded the fabric after I was finished. A quick wipe with a damp cloth removes marks like a dream. Even chocolate on the lounge that had been dropped and then melted into it by someone’s warm toosh 🤦‍♀️ I also added longer legs and upholstered the box spring on the bed and purchased children’s rolling under bed storage boxes. They were a nice white wood and had a little cut out hand hold and the clearance for the wheels allows good airflow still. I used a good quality fabric glue (it was a clear Aileen’s tacky variety) to sick the fabric to the top of the box spring as there wasn’t any wood to staple it to like there was underneath. 3 years on and it’s held up perfectly with mattress rotating and sheets being changed etc.

    Alli, great job. I know this is a work in progress but what a solid, beautiful foundation you are building by starting with the bed. In my experience, the benefit of DIY is not always cost but true customization… ready made products are always missing that personal custom touch. Love your videos, keep making them!

      Thank you so much! There's definitely something so rewarding about DIYing and being able to customize something! It makes the whole room feel like it's coming together now.

    Definitely would go with the darkest color for a bit more contrast.

    My Lowe’s has stopped cutting boards for people altogether. They also stopped their stockpile of scraps. Both of which I always used. I always ask them to cut my large pieces of wood specifically so it would fit in my car but then always shop their scrap pile.

      @ActuallyAlli  Před 5 měsíci

      Oh no that is terrible! I hope that doesn't happen at my location! I at least depend on it for the same reason you do, to fit pieces into my car. People will end up out in the parking lot cutting down pieces!

    54 inch wide fabric is hard to calculate amount you need. You were right to get more than you thought you might need. You could always finish the back of headboard with the extra fabric using upholstery tacks or staples and sew storage baskets or fabric liners for store bought baskets, etc.
    Note: I cringed a bit when you cut your fabric. I was taught to pull out a piece or two of the warp threads (the threads making up width of your fabric on the roll). That way you know your fabric piece is squared up so you can get even tension while pulling fabric taught while upholstering(plus you naturally make a straight line cutting guide). Beautiful product in the end either way. ❤

    This is a really easy to follow upholstered bed tutorial! Thank you:) For paint colour, I like the lightst one; it will still look dark after it's on the whole wall., and goes nicely with your fabrics.however, they are all good colours.

    I like the 2 color swatches on the ends. If you do have leftover fabric, I’m sure you can make some throw pillows for bed or maybe a picture backing inside a frame or something 😁🤷🏻‍♀️

      That was going to be my comment too! I love my electric stapler. It also fits small brad nails too. So handy. Mine is Ozito brand (I’m in Australia). It’s corded but very lightweight. I did have the Ryobi cordless but it was heavy and bulky. I also have the Ryobi pneumatic one but haven’t taken it out of the box. The noise of the air compressor cutting in and out freaks me out.

  • @vivianrichard53

    It might be wise to invest in a good electric stapler.
