      I like Elon, but I think he's so out of touch (not surprising since he's a billionaire). But not everyone wants to own or drive a car. Many Americans don't like driving and want to live in dense urban centers with great metro/subway accessibility. A walking lifestyle is so different from a driving lifestyle that most Americans are not only used to, but only aware of, sadly. You cannot build enough vehicle capacity to reduce traffic because it induces MORE DEMAND. Elon should know this. SMH.

    "People don't change their mind they just die". This is such a bold statement to make in public but so true. It takes a lot of self-reflecting and stepping down to admit that you were wrong about something and to learn from it. A lot of people reach a point where they get too full of themself and don't think about the possibility of growing more. They stagnate. As he describes with the job titles, they usually don't mean anything but they are used to justify opinions.

      @@johntheux9238 I understand his point, but as someone who does look back and try to analyze my past thinking with new data over time (actually evolving my thoughts rather than stagnating) I can't help but feel it's some what of a mistake to apply that to everyone. I personally would love to live longer and grab assistance from memory improvements etc so that I can continue to analyze and evolve thoughts on more data. I realize this doesn't describe the majority of people. But with the drive to do so, one could gain further sight into topics that shorter living humans cannot. There is also an issue of lost wisdom and the ability to really compare with what has come before as generations die off. Sure there are books, movies, etc to give some glimpses, but one can never really have the eye of the beholder from the previous generation unless they lived it. Taking those experiences and being able to grow over time I think is where one can really excel.

    • @cradlemonsterp9309
      @cradlemonsterp9309 Před 2 lety +9

      Max Plank said something similar. New theories don't make people see the light. Old physicists die and new ones simply grew up with new theories. And that's physics, which is supposedly directly verifiable through experience.

    • @cwtrex
      @cwtrex Před 2 lety +3

      @@cradlemonsterp9309 "New theories don't make people see the light." As someone who has definitely changed opinions and mindset over time, I don't think I can agree with that. At least not as a 100% rule. Again, I get the thought that okay, so 2% of you or whatever might grow as you learn, but 98% don't and therefore it's a bad idea mindset about this. "verifiable through experience" - and I have verified through experience that a person can indeed grow and change. Doesn't obviously make it the rule, but I am self aware enough to not be full of myself as mentioned above and to know that no matter how little there might appear to be left to learn, one should never assume they know everything. It's a horrible mindset and I think the realization of that solves a lot.

    There's 3 reasons we should all respect Elon:
    1- He's a solutionist. His "genius" isn't giving articulate speeches in podcasts or conferences. He actually solves real world problems directly by creating the solutions for them. That is 1,000 times harder than being a "public intellectual" and giving a good speech.
    2- He's not "lazy rich". He spends 90% of his time at his actual factories, working 80 hours a week, and involves himself deeply with entry level employees to see what reality is for each company to make great decision after great decision. Most of us making 50K a year enjoy more time off than he gives himself. Respect that.
    3- He's fearless. He doesn't give safe corporate answers and he doesn't care if his opinion on things makes himself enemies. A lot of CEO's try to make every answer as unoffensive as possible to maximize options for partnership at all times. Instead, Elon calls out nonsense aggressively and lets his partnership and collaboration chips fall where they may.
    The haters that picture Elon in some big office with his feet kicked back smoking a cigar while "the little people" make him rich, clearly have never researched his daily reality. You don't get to where he's at by seeking leisure and passing work off to others. You get to where he's at by relentlessly trying to improve the world for the better.

      USA can't have it both ways... Accrual Accounting means your taking in a responsible amount relative to your outgoings.
      The USD being the global currency means you've got to be a global money supply and run a deficit.
      If the US didn't run a deficit the USD would be effectively deflationary for other countries trying to make use of it elsewhere in the world. The US overspending is in effect a source of currency inflation for all the rest of us... limited inflation is good for our economies which is part of why we buy into the idea of the USD being a good currency for trade.
      It'll all come crashing down of course... It's a trade of present day power and commodities in exchange for long-term stability. One day the USD won't be the global currency anymore, yet the US government will still have 3-1 outgoings... then the US is buggered because it's dollar will become worthless faster than anyone can imagine and then the country will collapse under debit and overspending.

      SpaceX is the case of corrupted politicians in the US closing the U.S. space programs and transferring billions of the U.S. taxpayers' dollars intended for building NASA space rockets to a foreign national, Musk, who then claims his private ownership of the space rockets that his employees design and build on the money received from the U.S. government. That's corruption and worse than corruption. And don't start your verbal garbage about NASA not being able to build space rockets. That's administrative problem and it is created intentionally. Corrupted politicians are changing NASA program and cancel previous programs every few years. They do not let NASA to finish any programs and then they blame NASA for that to make brainwashed plebeians think that the national space agency is worthless.
      Over the last few decades, politicians have been intentionally killing national space programs and transferring taxpayers' money to privately owned corporations to space. Space has been for sale for some time now. It's not for the People anymore. It's for the super-wealthy and their corporations.
      “I’ll make a prediction right now. The first trillionaire will be made in space.” So said Texas senator Ted Cruz, shortly after a bill was signed to increase NASA’s budget for 2018. To untrained ears, his claim would have sounded extraordinary. It might even have stretched credulity for those familiar with the challenges of space. But on closer inspection, Cruz was not being that revolutionary. Peter Diamandis - founder of the X Prize competition to encourage tech developments - made the same prediction back in 2008 and expanded on the theme in his 2015 book Bold. As for how those trillionaires will make their riches from space, both he and Neil DeGrasse Tyson - the US astrophysicist and TV host - reckon it will be done by mining asteroids. For example, the asteroid 16 Psyche, one of the most massive objects in the main asteroid belt orbiting between Mars and Jupiter, could be made entirely of metal, according to a study published this week. The asteroid's metal is worth an estimated $10,000 quadrillion (that's 15 more zeroes), more than the entire economy of Earth.
      Translation: there is wealth out there in space. And that's what the super-wealthy are after - wealth, and NOT rescue of humankind.

      except that it just isn't how large scale economies work. Especially when you are printing your own money. Plus what he just said is actually completely opposed to what he did himself. Infrastructure bills are the best way to make money for governments, they build up infrastructures that stimulate the economy directly and indirectly (through payrolls and through the creation of opportunities for industries and commerces to flourish and create tax revenues). He himself spent a lot for a sort of infrastructure in his car industries to prodduce stuff as well. Quite honestly he is not even at a mediocre level in understanding global economies. He sees this as if it was a home owner, but home owner don't have the power to print their own money, or smushing their debts by devaluating their currency, countries do.

      tesla loved when he got gov subsidies.[1] now he hates it because Biden didn't invite him to the party. After all, tesla does not have union people.
      though in Germany they will have, because practically all workers are unionized in Germany, I wonder what will happen then.
      [1] According to a Los Angeles Times investigation, Musk's companies had received an estimated $4.9 billion in government support by 2015, and they've gotten more since.
      tesla is a product of social democracy: fusion of private and public. he doesn't like his competitors getting it now, too. that happens when you get big. first, you love it, then hate it if competitors get it.
      it makes no sense why the public could not make an investment and that only the private side could invest in the electric future. if we only waited for the private side, we still would not have electric cars.
      he says the public cant be efficient with money, but it's the private that's doing the work, the public is only an investor and guides what is good to invest in, like taxing gas OEM cars. musks companies have been bleeding serious money until now. this year was first on plus for tesla on cars.
