Good one. Only thing is drain pipe needs to be cut a bit to ensure water level remains the same. Just capping it will increase water level that could be good or bad.
It looks like it has a pretty high risk for clogging and also changes the water level in your tank and overflow. Did you consider the durso pipe solution?

Check the flow u could be clogged or just poorly adjusted chamge the valve at the sumps or add one and adjust it
