    This has been a real journey, to get to this point. (note there is an immediate followup to give this system the bass it deserves
    ConsoleMD is replacing my fully analog mixing system, which I'm now looking to sell off. Technically, just the mixer, as I can re-use the Lavry for tracking, where I used to have it dedicated to re-capturing the mixdown from the Heritage Audio mixer. This is what it took, to retire that glorious beast.
    It's a channel strip that functions like a normal Console Channel, except it's got treble, a sweepable mid that only boosts (like the classic MCI mid boost), bass, a fader that runs before the EQ section like the classic MCI, and a special pan switching network that's like an evil cousin of LCR panning. And it's a summing buss that brings the summing character of the big MCI desks with a gnarly analog dirtiness that's not simply 'add a distortion box' but is actually a modification of other recent and unique work I've put out.
    ConsoleMD draws on the following recent plugins: Creature. NOT SubTight. Sinew. ResEQ2. Pear. BitShiftPan. There is not a single normal DSP algorithm in this thing unless you count sin() and asin() functions. It is ALL built out of current, 2023 Airwindows plugins that have all been pretty well received, sometimes with a fair bit of excitement. I told you all this was working up to something. This is it.
    Specifically, this is the first 'it' to come together: I've got at least five other big console concepts that deserve this treatment, but ConsoleMC is right here for you to jump into, right now. There's a couple reverbs in the demo, including kCathedral which is a call-out to the corresponding Bricasti patch. Those are for later.
    ConsoleMD is designed around running at 96k (or possibly 192k if you're so inclined) but ought to work at 44.1k. If you're at low sample rate and seek to oversample it 2x or 4x it shouldn't do it any harm.
    All of the EQ options are designed to be pristine when flat (mids, being boost only, are flat at 0.0 boost, not 0.5) and bring in multiple stages as you crank them harder and harder, whether it's the highs and mids getting increasingly saturated or the mids getting increasingly high-Q, allowing for everything from clarity to tonal extremeness thoroughly beyond what any real MCI console would do. This is not a clone, it's a tone in its own right, that tries to do the same job as some of the greatest big analog consoles ever to exist, but does it by the unforgiving and touchy rules of digital.
    I hope it brings you joy, and helps you get your sound as it helps me get mine.

    Turns out I have a bit of an unexpected treble lift coming in on the stuff I'm using to CUT extreme lows, and it's adding more hype and space than I thought. Bear with me: ConsoleMC is not going away, but I'm looking into whether I ought to quickly put out a variation (quickly as in, already out as ConsoleMD). See the following video, use whichever you like best :)

    Two random comments;
    1. There's something about the lighting in this video that feels very 80's to me. Not sure what it is, just the way the light hits your hair, and the blinking lights in the background, it's really cool.
    2. Had the realization watching the Airwindows system, gear and all, is basically the libre version of the Softube Console1 system, which is even cooler than point one lol
    Anyway, amazing plugin, have been using it for months now!

    I just discovered Airwindows, and I congratulate you for the excellent work you are doing.
    One question: In your audio chain, how do you think about compression? I've noticed that you practically don't use compression on the channels. If you did, would it come before the ConsoleMC plugin? The same question for using the ToTape7 plugin, is it usually placed before or after the ConsoleMC? Thanks a lot!!

      It's the same generic parameter code as in all other plugins I make. You should at least be able to see Buss which is just one slider. What about other plugins I make, do those show parameters? Do you need to switch to a generic parameter mode to get 'em?

    Reaper needs a postfader fx bin

  • @AndrewHollis_uk
    @AndrewHollis_uk Před 10 měsíci

    My Daw/Card combo can run 48k at best. Also the daw doesn't support oversampling of plugins natively, It does have module that has 4x oversampling built in that allows you to insert FX pre and post module signal chain eg (audio > pre module fx -> module with 4xOS - > post module fx ) would that work or would running a plugin like glissEQ flat with oversampling enabled after the MCI channel/buss be a better option?

  • @LYSHEmusic
    @LYSHEmusic Před 10 měsíci

    Congrats on this! Great job! It's really special tool from what I feel for now.
    I'm going to try it and compare in with BitShiftConsole (my fav for now), and of course mix with it something after I'll get more familiar with it's sound.
    Chris, can I ask, Fader parameter - is it PurestGain or usual gain or some modification?

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Any gain trim inside an Airwindows plugin functions as PurestGain because they all dither to floating point. Fader is doubly like PurestGain since the pan is BitShiftPan making it more like there's only one gain operation in the plugin… I would say it's all 'some modification'. There is even a modification of Sinew on the master buss, audible when you push the level and brightness of the mix too hard.

    • @LYSHEmusic
      @LYSHEmusic Před 10 měsíci

      @@airwindows cool! About the purest gain in all your plugins - has it always been like this or does it make sense to reload old plugins?
      And second related question. I like to use your Dark plugin the most out of all other dithers, and not only on a master. Is there a possibility and more importantly a practical sense to incorporate Dark into PurestGain instead of dither stage in it? For the sake of another textural option.

      Highs and lows are much like a multi-stage version of the way I did it in CStrip, except using Pear EQ for crossover points. It's a pretty flexible approach: every lettered Console's highs and lows will sound and act different consistent to what those big analog desks were like.

    interesting, but I'm still cloudy on how console emus work (or why to use them, I'm a trog.) the concept refuses to stick in my brain. however it would be much easier if DAWS had an option to load the console emulation circuit of your choice. like if Reaper had an option where you could use the stock summing process or load third party ones such as Airwindows.

      It's way brighter than the Heritage analog mix. Traditionally when mixers and musicians get new tools they use the hell out of them: I couldn't have got that kind of energy out of the no-EQ analog mix, even though many tracks had some form of simpler EQ on them.

  • @pyratellamarecordingstudio1062

    Don’t the reverb channels need th console bus plug-in before the reverb plug-in? Since they’re sending an encoded channel?

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  Před 10 měsíci

      I've always allowed for added reverb, and added delays, to run 'inside' Console so the space they are in, is expanded using the same kind of space you get between mixer channels :) also, note that the auxes are getting attenuated, like if you were applying the DAW fader on them. Feeding an all-wet reverb buss it's not as big of a deal :) if I was making the whole DAW I'd fix it, though.
