    Excellent! The story, first of all is absolutely invigorating, you have given a new "PRISM" of reality. That is what I always comment in respective critics: Find a new, intriguing concept and create a great story.
    The story telling is excellent, the acting superb. Camera motion, music score to the point. It is a big bravo for you that the main protagonist was the story itself and not the VFXs. They were great and served their purpose but not in expense of the concept of the film.
    Mr. Miller, well done!

      Good film metaphorically speaking, the old man crying broke my heart, the ending left me scratching my head. Where did he go? What did he do? Why didn't he power up his gun with the pastels? Why didn't he smudge color all over the painting? But nicely made, audio-visually speaking.

      Cool, great but that metaphor is not well executed. Its not whatever you want it to be - it has to be IN the film. I seen a child's teddy bear, if that suppose to relate the same should have came up a few times to make what the metaphor is referring to more clear, unless I missed something.

    • @Marqan
      @Marqan Před 6 lety +2

      Well if you think it's a metaphor as opposed to being literal, then you could be the one who's overthinking it.
      We already have Equilibrium (2002) for that metaphor.
      You don't need an absurd premise to get your point through.

      This is actually a metaphor for the vampiric entities that feed off our different coloured chakra energies!!! When the veil falls we will see these energies and the vampiric entities. In fact, in Revelations at the end of the bible...the seven churches are the seven 'inorganic' (matrix/machine) races that vampire off us.
      If you think the occult world or sorcery is fiction...you may want to take deeper look into it. The seven chakras the New Agers rave about are simply the portals of that particular colour/energy.
      People worship these different gods that use them like livestock...and these deluded people are looking forward to the architect of the matrix/prison returning!!!
      They've openly declared it too...the light splitting prism is EVERYWHERE throughout modern media and pop culture! The triangle with the circle is the same occult sigil that is painted on the floor and used to summon a demon into (whilst the satanist/sorcerer stands in an extra barrier/circle as well, lol!).
      Whatever they're up to...it's almost here! They've been telling us repeatedly most of this year that "Times Up"!!!
      There's only one way out of this prison/matrix/human cattle farm...and it's also why all the mainstream media pushes all religions...but demoted and mocks Jesus...they've spread heaps of propaganda deliberately mixing/confusing him with pagan deities....but here's the biggest giveaway that he was who he said he was...all the people channeling entities (demons lol) and these so called aliens...it's strange how their flowery new age speeches love all prophets and religions (the "we're all one" brigade!!!)...but the channelled messages ALWAYS either dismiss or demote Jesus! Then there's the Satanic Vatican, deliberately destroying true faith and spirituality!!! They managed to slaughter virtually all those that knew the truth about genuine Christianity! All modern Christianity is fake and hollow...and designed to make the truth look pathetic!!!
      Once you start digging...you realise EVERYTHING you thought you knew is utterly false...an elite fabrication to keep power and control for their vampiric bosses!!!
      It's a crazy crazy world! I don't mind if you think it's nuts...at least when you see it all unfolding, you'll understand what's happening and cope better. Lots of love 🙂👍🏻💕

    • @garicrewsen1128
      @garicrewsen1128 Před 7 lety +86

      When dealing with 'light', white is all colors, black is the absence of; when dealing with 'pastels', white is total absence of color, black is the inclusion of all colors.

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter Před 7 lety +25

      Righteous- For further clarification, you are referring to the difference between light and pigments. The artists' 'pastels' in the short are pigments with minimal binder, but the same is true of pigments suspended in a carrier to make paint. Or pigments formed by plants, as in the orchids. The term 'pastel color' also refers to the dilution of color with white, and is likely to be the better known use of the word to the general public, not artists or creative students.Of course, the use of color in this film is allegorical, as even pigments have color only by reflecting light in certain wavelengths, while absorbing other wavelengths. Directly or by reflectance, all color perception is light - so in a scientific sense, the premise of this film is bogus. Unless it was intended to be so to underline the oppression of the corporate city-state.

    • @chicawhappa
      @chicawhappa Před 7 lety +21

      Color (regardless where we see it) is just the wavelengths the thing we are looking at did NOT absorb. That is all color is. Still....of the last 5 'sci-fi' shorts I have watched, this one came closest to the 'Sci' part. Still....when there is sunlight all around (meaning SHIT TONS OF ALL THE COLORS), why are they making people give up piddly shit that absorbs *some* of it? Let's put the SCIENCE back in sci-fi people! We need to create a new type for these films, call them 'soft sci-fi' or something.

      The society is powered by pigments, not light. What I don't understand is why they cannot simply run off chlorophyll pigments, or even blood donations, it doesn't seem to take much matter to generate the energy. Great film, though once you think about it too much, some major plot holes show through.

    • @laurens5726
      @laurens5726 Před 5 lety +133

      The trick to subjegation of the masses is written alot about and simple in theory. The state demands payment in a resource only they control. You have to work for the state to get the resource to pay. You only get payed if you comply. Those who do not comply will not get payed and lose quality of life. This is supposed to either weed out non compliance or to insentivice compliance. If you are interested in this mechanic, you should read about the social mechanics behind the new point system the chinese government is creating. The theory and mechanics are also used alot on multiplayer platforms and marketing. Human behavior especially in groups is pretty predictable.

They give you a little to do stuff for them, then give more to have others take what you have, eventually draining you dry. Then, they prey upon their lackies. Social implosion, rebellion, the rise of leaders, the rise of freedom, greed creates new bad guys, leaders become what they hate with one compromise after another, then those with all the wealth and power become the biggest parasites... wash, rinse, repeat. What was the saying again? "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" - or something similar, which could be the title of this memorable film. We take colours to be so granted that we hardly perceive them consciously, unless we see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, the lovely blue eyes of an attractive person or the colouring of a wonderful wild animal or bird. Yet colours enhance our lives to such an extent that only the total lack of them, as portrayed in this film - combined with their taxation and inhibition - can make us see the truth ; our world without colours would be a dead place to live in. Great film, well acted, good CGI work. Well done all round ! 😘

    It must be a living hell when all the color drains from life through grief. The only "lumin" left to the victim was the deep, ruby red blood in his own veins which he "gave" to the picture of his wife. There is an underlying beauty in the story line of this movie, and in the irony of the colorfulness of life contrasting with the darkness of death. Far fetched though it was I really did enjoy this movie. Much food for thought, thank you for the feast.

  • @toasega
    @toasega Před 7 lety +1

    Have you considered making a sequel to this short film? "Prism 2: The Prisming" or something. I dunno, whatever.
    Anyway:
    The film would take place several years after the events of this film. There are massive "Color Shortages", and people are forced to give up the color of their skin, eyes, and hair to power the cities. People within the still-lawless districts are hunted down and harvested for their color.
    Two separate social classes are created because of these actions; the "Colorless Ones" (Name needs work), those who have had their color stolen, their homes lost, and who now live in subterranean, morlock-esque dwellings, and the "Beautiful Ones", the rich and powerful who were able to use their wealth and influence to escape the de-saturation(?) process. As a result of this, war grips the populace as the colorless fight back against the system that robbed the world of its color; even the seas and the sky are now cold and gray. Even worse, there are "Dark Zones" where all forms of light have been harvested. Since color contributes to the way we perceive light, the entire world is slowly going dark.
    The leader of the rebel forces is the main character from "Prism 1".
    Recently, a new development has been taking place, where the government claims it can restore color to the people that were robbed of it. This is an effort to stem the violence. However, the rebel leader senses something is wrong. He leads a daring raid against the "Re-Saturation Plant" in order to investigate. He discovers that color can, in fact, be restored to the world, but it would drain all the power everywhere, leaving the world to misery and death, but free to witness color again and build a better world atop the ruins of this nightmare. And, in a more chilling development, he realizes the truth of the Re-Saturation Plants.
    The colorless ones still have one form of color left.
    They have been brought here to have their blood and internal organs harvested for their color.
    The rebel leader is suddenly surrounded by government forces, but he manages to spread his message to the world before being captured and harvested himself. The people rise up as one and fight back one last time, overthrowing the government and preserving the last pieces of colorful objects that the rich once owned (old cans and various items of trash).
    The people must now decide whether or not they will destroy Prism and restore color to the world, or if they will allow things to remain as they are. All that's left of the rebel leader is his colored charcoal (chalk?), which went unused since the last film.
    I leave the ending of the story up to your own imagination.

      Since the idea of extracting energy from 'color' does not hold scientific water - color is simply the perception of wavelengths of light, whether direct or reflected. That is why black (or other dark color) cars get so much hotter in the sun than white (or other light colored) cars. These darker cars cost more to run, if the driver uses the air conditioning to offset the added heat absorption, which most everyone does.(Heating the interior of the car, on the other hand, uses no extra energy, as heat is a byproduct of running the engine.)

    In my opinion, this is not Science Fiction. This is fantasy with some sci-fi stuff in it. It's an interesting idea but it's not science. It's an art piece.

    • @WirelessJoeJackson
      @WirelessJoeJackson Před 5 lety +3

      I guess technically then every sci-fi movie is also fantasy since it's fiction?!?! This is pure sci-fi. Just because it focuses on color as energy doesn't mean it's just an art piece.

    • @cgann1999
      @cgann1999 Před 5 lety +1

      @@WirelessJoeJackson Not all fiction is fantasy, the words are not synonymous. However, fantasy and sci fi can overlap quite a bit. In this case, I think what the OP is saying is that while this might be a good social commentary, it's not quite as well developed in its science aspect as other science fiction. However, simply by being a dystopian future alone is enough to still brand it as SciFi since all alternate reality stuff by default falls under the genre.

    • @nolanjshettle
      @nolanjshettle Před 5 lety

      Constructive criticism helps find a better path. You've not given any such paths, you've simply criticized the work. Pointing out a flaw and claiming it's constructive does not make it so.
      Here's some actual constructive criticism for you. Instead of simply pointing out what you see is a problem, perhaps try to provide some constructive feedback by suggesting a solution.

      I fiugred that like any government, they wasted the guaranteed income. Thus, there was an ever increasing need to steal more and more.
      E.g "our" gov't in the US prints money. You'd think that would be enough. But no, they have to tax us at every level AND borrow from future generations.
      ...and even THAT isn't enough.

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter Před 7 lety +10

      Most Americans are no longer aware that personal income taxes are a relatively recent addition to government income. AND we were never supposed to pay taxes on money that was already taxed... A little research into the history of taxation in the States and the federation of States can be sobering.

    • @leighatkins22
      @leighatkins22 Před 7 lety +7

      +KutWrite Well, actually it's the Federal Reserve Bank which is a privately owned bank (not owned by the government at all as the name was intended to suggest) that steals from you, and that is because the system is set up to permit them to demand extra (interest) on top of the loan they let out which over time, slowly funnels everything that everyone owns towards the banks & their owners. This interest doesn't exist in the system so someone else's money has to be sacrificed in order for the bank to get its blood interest.
      Every month the govt has to make repayments on the loan owed by the people & because there's not enough money left to live on once the loan has been paid, it borrows more money to make ends meet which is what keeps you in perpetual debt. The loan is now so high that even if they never re-borrowed again, the interest would still never be paid off now. And printing more money just lowers the value of the money already out there, it doesn't "make" money at all coz YOU are your country's collateral on the loan.
      If you don't already know this, you need to see the "Debt as Money" doco on youtube - it's truly shocking what our system has become & how little we're told so that we'll allow it all to be in place... disgusting even...
