DMA AWARD for BEST VFX (DODGE COLLEGE OF FILM AND MEDIA ARTS) - Krátké a kreslené filmy
No reason this shouldnt be a movie. This had better acting..real acting. I cried by the cinematography. This was utterly breath taking. It would make a amazing movie.
I am here because it randomly popped in my suggestions. It's 2019. See you guys again after 3 years, and then after 5 years again and so on.
Excellent! The story, first of all is absolutely invigorating, you have given a new "PRISM" of reality. That is what I always comment in respective critics: Find a new, intriguing concept and create a great story.
The story telling is excellent, the acting superb. Camera motion, music score to the point. It is a big bravo for you that the main protagonist was the story itself and not the VFXs. They were great and served their purpose but not in expense of the concept of the film.
Mr. Miller, well done!
Good film metaphorically speaking, the old man crying broke my heart, the ending left me scratching my head. Where did he go? What did he do? Why didn't he power up his gun with the pastels? Why didn't he smudge color all over the painting? But nicely made, audio-visually speaking.
this could easily become a series and would make one interesting one to boot.
"Time to stockpile crayons"
My favorite one is Clear.
..No...it's still the toilet paper, to color on.
I think some commenters are over thinking a little bit. "Color" is a metaphor.
all 4 tha cash
that's racist. Lol
Cool, great but that metaphor is not well executed. Its not whatever you want it to be - it has to be IN the film. I seen a child's teddy bear, if that suppose to relate the same should have came up a few times to make what the metaphor is referring to more clear, unless I missed something.
Well if you think it's a metaphor as opposed to being literal, then you could be the one who's overthinking it.
We already have Equilibrium (2002) for that metaphor.
You don't need an absurd premise to get your point through.
This is actually a metaphor for the vampiric entities that feed off our different coloured chakra energies!!! When the veil falls we will see these energies and the vampiric entities. In fact, in Revelations at the end of the bible...the seven churches are the seven 'inorganic' (matrix/machine) races that vampire off us.
If you think the occult world or sorcery is fiction...you may want to take deeper look into it. The seven chakras the New Agers rave about are simply the portals of that particular colour/energy.
People worship these different gods that use them like livestock...and these deluded people are looking forward to the architect of the matrix/prison returning!!!
They've openly declared it too...the light splitting prism is EVERYWHERE throughout modern media and pop culture! The triangle with the circle is the same occult sigil that is painted on the floor and used to summon a demon into (whilst the satanist/sorcerer stands in an extra barrier/circle as well, lol!).
Whatever they're up to...it's almost here! They've been telling us repeatedly most of this year that "Times Up"!!!
There's only one way out of this prison/matrix/human cattle farm...and it's also why all the mainstream media pushes all religions...but demoted and mocks Jesus...they've spread heaps of propaganda deliberately mixing/confusing him with pagan deities....but here's the biggest giveaway that he was who he said he was...all the people channeling entities (demons lol) and these so called aliens...it's strange how their flowery new age speeches love all prophets and religions (the "we're all one" brigade!!!)...but the channelled messages ALWAYS either dismiss or demote Jesus! Then there's the Satanic Vatican, deliberately destroying true faith and spirituality!!! They managed to slaughter virtually all those that knew the truth about genuine Christianity! All modern Christianity is fake and hollow...and designed to make the truth look pathetic!!!
Once you start digging...you realise EVERYTHING you thought you knew is utterly false...an elite fabrication to keep power and control for their vampiric bosses!!!
It's a crazy crazy world! I don't mind if you think it's nuts...at least when you see it all unfolding, you'll understand what's happening and cope better. Lots of love 🙂👍🏻💕
Jackson my friend, a well thought out, written, and executed story. I like how you kind of force the watcher to read between the lines and search further into the story... even leaving them hanging on in the end longing for more.
You have created a wonderful work of art.
Bravo.
ignore the haters.. art is about ideas and concepts... loved the questions posed here, art vs survival... "Bread for all, and Roses, too"
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Roses guard The Tower which holds the beams.
This would be a lot better if I had never read Fahrenheit 451
If free people are not paying attention socializing can easily be the new law by the men in charge. 😨🇺🇸😨🇺🇸
Now that you mention it, there's a lot of parallels to this and Fahrenheit 451.
@@ogeccentricenigma if by parallel you mean swapping books for colors and firemen for desaturator, then yes, those are mere "parallels". Still like the execution.
i read and saw the film - both were fantastic. But so is this - one has nothing to do with the other. Just because you've seen Jackson Pollack doesn't mean Kandinsky is derivative and not as incredible!!!!
Given that white is the presence of all colors of light, why is there so much of it around?
When dealing with 'light', white is all colors, black is the absence of; when dealing with 'pastels', white is total absence of color, black is the inclusion of all colors.
Righteous- For further clarification, you are referring to the difference between light and pigments. The artists' 'pastels' in the short are pigments with minimal binder, but the same is true of pigments suspended in a carrier to make paint. Or pigments formed by plants, as in the orchids. The term 'pastel color' also refers to the dilution of color with white, and is likely to be the better known use of the word to the general public, not artists or creative students.Of course, the use of color in this film is allegorical, as even pigments have color only by reflecting light in certain wavelengths, while absorbing other wavelengths. Directly or by reflectance, all color perception is light - so in a scientific sense, the premise of this film is bogus. Unless it was intended to be so to underline the oppression of the corporate city-state.
Color (regardless where we see it) is just the wavelengths the thing we are looking at did NOT absorb. That is all color is. Still....of the last 5 'sci-fi' shorts I have watched, this one came closest to the 'Sci' part. Still....when there is sunlight all around (meaning SHIT TONS OF ALL THE COLORS), why are they making people give up piddly shit that absorbs *some* of it? Let's put the SCIENCE back in sci-fi people! We need to create a new type for these films, call them 'soft sci-fi' or something.
Concur... E = Phanks constant x Wavelength....
The society is powered by pigments, not light. What I don't understand is why they cannot simply run off chlorophyll pigments, or even blood donations, it doesn't seem to take much matter to generate the energy. Great film, though once you think about it too much, some major plot holes show through.
BUZZKILLER!!!!!.. A world without color, sounds like winter
If any colors you have are taken away from you, how are you supposed to "pay your debt" with colors? How are these people supposed to have something if that something is illegal to have in the first place?
The trick to subjegation of the masses is written alot about and simple in theory. The state demands payment in a resource only they control. You have to work for the state to get the resource to pay. You only get payed if you comply. Those who do not comply will not get payed and lose quality of life. This is supposed to either weed out non compliance or to insentivice compliance. If you are interested in this mechanic, you should read about the social mechanics behind the new point system the chinese government is creating. The theory and mechanics are also used alot on multiplayer platforms and marketing. Human behavior especially in groups is pretty predictable.
@@laurens5726 wow, youre such a knowledgeable person, im not joking
It's how people with all the wealth and power work. Decent people (the majority) "hoarding wealth" (keeping scraps) become "the enemy." They give you a little to do stuff for them, then give more to have others take what you have, eventually draining you dry. Then, they prey upon their lackies. Social implosion, rebellion, the rise of leaders, the rise of freedom, greed creates new bad guys, leaders become what they hate with one compromise after another, then those with all the wealth and power become the biggest parasites... wash, rinse, repeat. Welcome to humanity.
@@That80sGuy1972 thats not quite like that lol
this sounds a lot like... money.
The boss person actress did a wonderful job at portraying the character.
sorry but this is not a science fiction movie but a fantasy one

Incredibly lush detail in every form and fashion. Very rich story line.
I thought i had seen everything SYFY out there at least twice, the same stories told again, and again.
but every once and awhile i stumble upon something .........AWESOme. tHIS IS ONE OF THOSE....
Great production all around. And the way we are left hanging, not knowing what our character does next???!!!
I need more, please. Hope we get another chapter someday. Thanks
I really enjoyed this, and I was sad when it finished. Superb work from everyone, and special appreciation for the painter, I nearly cried.
What was the saying again? "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" - or something similar, which could be the title of this memorable film. We take colours to be so granted that we hardly perceive them consciously, unless we see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, the lovely blue eyes of an attractive person or the colouring of a wonderful wild animal or bird. Yet colours enhance our lives to such an extent that only the total lack of them, as portrayed in this film - combined with their taxation and inhibition - can make us see the truth ; our world without colours would be a dead place to live in. Great film, well acted, good CGI work. Well done all round ! 😘
Genius!!! Incredibly creative idea!!! So well produced and filmed and edited and the special effects were perfect for the film! ...And the lead actor was incredible! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

Creative... and yet, the same old story. Bureaucratic governments / corporations creating situations where the populace serves them, instead of the other way around. Sucking the very color out of life... Some bureaucracies allow people some color to distract them from the other things that are sucked out of their lives... from the fact that are tracked and taxed from cradle to grave.
+Jefferdaughter
The points of view about life in general from folks who have plenty and from the folks who have very little are basically the same points of view...something is always wrong or missing from their lives while both groups also experience some things in their lives which make them feel happier.

watched a lot of these shorts, this one of the best i've seen.
I truly loved this short simply because I'm an artist and oil painter. This world is truly the definition of hell. Clean and neat dystopian at it's finest.
This movie was majestic, from the whole idea, to the graphics, hell even the characters were acting on hollywood levels.
Bravo!!
-4 years later, If you're still watching this you're a legend.
Well done!
Great metaphor, too.
I'd want to see what Dan does next; he looks resolute.
PS I really liked the music. I didn't see a credit as to what you used.
It must be a living hell when all the color drains from life through grief. The only "lumin" left to the victim was the deep, ruby red blood in his own veins which he "gave" to the picture of his wife. There is an underlying beauty in the story line of this movie, and in the irony of the colorfulness of life contrasting with the darkness of death. Far fetched though it was I really did enjoy this movie. Much food for thought, thank you for the feast.
Quite brilliant in all aspects. Better than anything Hollywood could produce. Totally engrossing story and visually captivating. Cargill's acting was stellar.
Depressing future world.
But Dan is my hero. I'd help him escape and give him all my colours.
Thank you.
The artstyle is fantastic, the colors really pop. Love it all around.
I almost cried after he took that color from the guy paintings.
This reminds me of the book
"the giver"
“Our people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with difference. We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others.”
Darien Hailey Movie Pleasantville, black and white for conformity, colours for enlightenment.
Right?
Darien Hailey LOVE THAT BOOK!
Its also a movie
One of the very best shorts... color is the metaphor of this "1984" future world. Thanks Jackson!
the future for sure .. love this ... emotional .. and relatable especially now
resembling Equilibrium 2002
That's my favorite movie. The will Happen to us eventually.
Or Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
Thats a really good movie.. sneaker hit
definitely sense crime
I wasn't expecting this short film to be this good!
I'm a little late to the viewing party but I would definitely love to see a continuation of this. Well done. :)
Absolutely brilliant. What a great short film
I was a bit unsure about the concept at first, but then I totally got it. I got the same feeling for color in this film as I did when reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. The scene when Dan painted the orchid and when the hidden painting was revealed (and then destroyed) got to me especially. I'm subscribing and excited to see your future work!
Have you considered making a sequel to this short film? "Prism 2: The Prisming" or something. I dunno, whatever.
Anyway:
The film would take place several years after the events of this film. There are massive "Color Shortages", and people are forced to give up the color of their skin, eyes, and hair to power the cities. People within the still-lawless districts are hunted down and harvested for their color.
Two separate social classes are created because of these actions; the "Colorless Ones" (Name needs work), those who have had their color stolen, their homes lost, and who now live in subterranean, morlock-esque dwellings, and the "Beautiful Ones", the rich and powerful who were able to use their wealth and influence to escape the de-saturation(?) process. As a result of this, war grips the populace as the colorless fight back against the system that robbed the world of its color; even the seas and the sky are now cold and gray. Even worse, there are "Dark Zones" where all forms of light have been harvested. Since color contributes to the way we perceive light, the entire world is slowly going dark.
The leader of the rebel forces is the main character from "Prism 1".
Recently, a new development has been taking place, where the government claims it can restore color to the people that were robbed of it. This is an effort to stem the violence. However, the rebel leader senses something is wrong. He leads a daring raid against the "Re-Saturation Plant" in order to investigate. He discovers that color can, in fact, be restored to the world, but it would drain all the power everywhere, leaving the world to misery and death, but free to witness color again and build a better world atop the ruins of this nightmare. And, in a more chilling development, he realizes the truth of the Re-Saturation Plants.
The colorless ones still have one form of color left.
They have been brought here to have their blood and internal organs harvested for their color.
The rebel leader is suddenly surrounded by government forces, but he manages to spread his message to the world before being captured and harvested himself. The people rise up as one and fight back one last time, overthrowing the government and preserving the last pieces of colorful objects that the rich once owned (old cans and various items of trash).
The people must now decide whether or not they will destroy Prism and restore color to the world, or if they will allow things to remain as they are. All that's left of the rebel leader is his colored charcoal (chalk?), which went unused since the last film.
I leave the ending of the story up to your own imagination.
Wow this has been the best episode so far. I could see this turned into a full movie. 1 hour 33 minutes. Job well done.
This was so good in all aspects. I'm mesmerized. And as a painter I find the concept really interesting. Hope to see more of you, Jackson.
I just cant stop thinking of color leds.....
One of the best Sci-fi shorts I've seen.
My hard broke, this man lost his wife and put all his money in one last colored reminder of her and they destroy the only point of light in his life, the only piece of color that is left of his greatest love.
Did the people of the future just forget about nuclear, solar, geothermal, hydro, and wind power?
they wouldn't be able to use solar power because all the pollution is hiding the sun
@@The_Liquidator_ Still seems to be light. Also they seem advanced enough to put some in space and send it down with lasers, not to mention fusion.
Wind and hydro are just a byproduct of Sun light and Earth gravity, I wouldn't invest too much in those or you could screw the eco-system.
But solar panels on space where earth can't touch, that sound like a better plan. Stars is probably the best source and there are infinite numbers of them scatter across the Universe.
for pete's sake, this is a fantasy - a science fiction!! jeesh!!
my goodness incredible movie. I have watched a million short sci-fi films and yours may well be the very best I ever seen
This piece teared me up. It was uniquely beautiful. The concept was Amazing.
Wow! The cinematography work was beautiful! Not to mention the flow of the plot and the angle of each shot! Loved it! First short film I've seen in a while that is decent!
Amazing work. I’m blown away ! Original and interesting story and I was captivated from start to finish. Really aweome and would kill to see this as a series !!!!
Well played! The HR demoness was notable. And the concept was very cool. Life-sucking subjugation -a classic. Thanks to everyone involved.
Excellent. Thank you for a stellar production.
White, I believe, is the absence of light. Black is the presence of all colors. Very fulfilling presentation by way of ominous and depressing material. Thank you for this production.
Awesome, heart-breaking awesome.
This was awesome....would like to see this in a full length film.
All the people had to do was smear a small amount of their blood on a sheet of paper. That should keep the corporate dogs at bay.
Since the idea of extracting energy from 'color' does not hold scientific water - color is simply the perception of wavelengths of light, whether direct or reflected. That is why black (or other dark color) cars get so much hotter in the sun than white (or other light colored) cars. These darker cars cost more to run, if the driver uses the air conditioning to offset the added heat absorption, which most everyone does.(Heating the interior of the car, on the other hand, uses no extra energy, as heat is a byproduct of running the engine.)
Incorrect...we pay by spending (and wasting) our lifetime in useless workplaces. Lifetime is the true currency on this planet!
To be fair, that is the human condition, you must spend your life obtaining the means to live, as do all living things. The issue is with how this is to be achieved in a meaningful way.
How appropriate that they pay their "debtors" with their own blood.
@@KiithNaabal yes. Time is the only commodity that cannot be replicated or replaced.
Now this is a good one...
Great concept. Amazing, you should make a film out of this idea
At this rate the Marine Core won’t have any crayons to eat lol
Now this is great scifi. I wish we learned more. More world building , more episodes. I watch scifi all day long, and this is good scifi, I feel lately its been a lot of crap to gems. This is a gem.
Brilliant movie! I think he escapes and starts a rebellion!
No, if it’s part of “Black Mirror” series.
They yellow vests maybe?
como siempre, espectacular !!!!!
I love the premise of this short. Use up all of the color for energy. All you end up with is a bleak colorless world. Nothing much to look at for inspiration or aspiration. I mean, what if....?
It's amazing how much you can convey in 15 minutes... well done!
I really wanted to see more of this :( the story is really intriguing as well as Dan!
I agree. Should make it into a series.
Blood still runs red. They weren't able to eliminate all color. Great film!
Bob Ciminel What do you think will be used when all the other colour is used up?
At this point I don’t remember why I made the comment.
A few things were confusing for me but all in all I dig the story and kuddos to the actor playing Edmond. He let lose a couple times and brought life into the scenes! Good job!
PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES!! SOOOOOO GOOD!
Great movie, purely dystopian indeed... one other thing, "Touch my crayons, you're toast...!"
Scary. Fascinating concept. I just wonder who would want to continue living in a world without colour
A totally awesome story with great acting. Well done Jackson Miller. Would love to see more to it.
"Water is not a human right"
Superb, and John Eddings was great. He was referred to in the film as Mr Thompson but listed in the credits as Edmund Moore.
Great work mate! Liked it :)
Reminiscent of Unwanteds
I love it
In my opinion, this is not Science Fiction. This is fantasy with some sci-fi stuff in it. It's an interesting idea but it's not science. It's an art piece.
I enjoyed it. I am not "hating". I'm giving constructive criticism in the hopes of providing a path to better work in the future. Kepp it up!
I guess technically then every sci-fi movie is also fantasy since it's fiction?!?! This is pure sci-fi. Just because it focuses on color as energy doesn't mean it's just an art piece.
@@WirelessJoeJackson Not all fiction is fantasy, the words are not synonymous. However, fantasy and sci fi can overlap quite a bit. In this case, I think what the OP is saying is that while this might be a good social commentary, it's not quite as well developed in its science aspect as other science fiction. However, simply by being a dystopian future alone is enough to still brand it as SciFi since all alternate reality stuff by default falls under the genre.
Constructive criticism helps find a better path. You've not given any such paths, you've simply criticized the work. Pointing out a flaw and claiming it's constructive does not make it so.
Here's some actual constructive criticism for you. Instead of simply pointing out what you see is a problem, perhaps try to provide some constructive feedback by suggesting a solution.
@@nolanjshettle Yeah but both are done
It's definitely Science Fiction. I would disagree this being an "art piece" but can it not be both? Science Fiction can also have Fantasy elements to it.
I draw in black & white most of the time. Perhaps, I'll start colouring my drawings from now on. Beautiful movie.
I enjoyed this short I truly did. Just one question though. If all they needed was colour to power things why not use a prism to do so ?
I fiugred that like any government, they wasted the guaranteed income. Thus, there was an ever increasing need to steal more and more.
E.g "our" gov't in the US prints money. You'd think that would be enough. But no, they have to tax us at every level AND borrow from future generations.
...and even THAT isn't enough.
Most Americans are no longer aware that personal income taxes are a relatively recent addition to government income. AND we were never supposed to pay taxes on money that was already taxed... A little research into the history of taxation in the States and the federation of States can be sobering.
+KutWrite Well, actually it's the Federal Reserve Bank which is a privately owned bank (not owned by the government at all as the name was intended to suggest) that steals from you, and that is because the system is set up to permit them to demand extra (interest) on top of the loan they let out which over time, slowly funnels everything that everyone owns towards the banks & their owners. This interest doesn't exist in the system so someone else's money has to be sacrificed in order for the bank to get its blood interest.
Every month the govt has to make repayments on the loan owed by the people & because there's not enough money left to live on once the loan has been paid, it borrows more money to make ends meet which is what keeps you in perpetual debt. The loan is now so high that even if they never re-borrowed again, the interest would still never be paid off now. And printing more money just lowers the value of the money already out there, it doesn't "make" money at all coz YOU are your country's collateral on the loan.
If you don't already know this, you need to see the "Debt as Money" doco on youtube - it's truly shocking what our system has become & how little we're told so that we'll allow it all to be in place... disgusting even...
Did you also know that by acknowledging the all caps letter in the mail, you represent your US Corporation identity and all of their debts/summons/taxes?! Your basically representing your "ghost" government entity when your parents signed your birth certificate, certifying you to a lifetime of debt to the US Corporation? Google it, it's even on youtube!
Michael Rinkle, exactly. Like the video, "Meet Your Strawman" at infomatic Channel.
How will we change things?
loved it everything about it was just out of this world
and that's why it's important to love what you do
HAHAHA... All the questions about the "holes" in the premise... Its a fantasy film.
You all scare the S%#* out of me. Great film...loved it!
Freshest idea in Science Fiction to date, imo. Outstanding, intriguing, involving and influencing.
i cant get past the fact that all color if just reflected light
Simply Awsome!
Thanks for showing!
Why is it that short film always end when something interesting are about to happen???😔
I enjoyed this, good filmmaking and interesting premise
This is a masterpiece of SciFi work. Really enjoyed it! 👍
OMG THIS NEEDS TO BE A FULL MOVIE
Nice! Reminded me of Equilibrium (which is an awesome movie btw). Bravo.
Although this feels like equilibrium, it was very well done. Casting, acting , cgi, sets and story
This idea may not be unprecedented, but it sure is to me, a unique story with an abundance of feeling.
Great little short with a clever plot and superb production and cgi.
Remember bloggers, it is art, fiction, fun and false. Cheap and cheerful...sorta. 89/100 🧡
Reminiscent of Black Mirror.
Excelente historia. Inspiradora y terrorífica al mismo tiempo.
I like the metaphor and the messages of the film and it is not sci-fi, it describes our everyday life.

Very interesting twist on product placement. The 800 number on the "Now Leasing" sign on the side of the building at 3:38 is actually a number for T-Mobile, offering to switch to their service.
Great concept, well acted and well executed. It drew you in a and made you want more, everything a short movie should do.....
