- DIY Van build #19 Got Hitched - Curt Trailer Hitch receiver - Mercedes Sprinter Van Build.
MUST WATCH THIS! If you plan to install a Curt Trailer Hitch on your 2019 Mercedes Sprinter Van, I have noticed both options given for a 2019 Mercedes Van are Wrong. You have a choice of a STEP BUMPER or a STANDARD BUMPER. With the standard bumper Mercedes Van neither option fits properly. Instructions do state no drilling required but for the 2019 Standard bumper with the Curt hitch part # 13358 or 13388 you will have to drill or have a low mount hitch. Check out the video to see how we fixed the problem and get us ready to pull a trailer with our 2019 Mercedes Sprinter Van. Maybe it will save you some time and headache!!
Follow along as we build our 2019 Mercedes Sprinter into a 4x4 overland roaming home to travel the continent with. I post one video every Sunday showing one step at a time how this conversion is completed and the products being used..
Thanks for watching, see you next Sunday.

I always look forward to your Sunday videos Jeff !
Sam B awesome glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching.
You are a very resourceful young man
Rose Smith thank you. I am learning as I go with this project!! Thanks for watching!
Great instructional video Jeff Dares. I was on the Curt website this week and thank heavens I didn't hit the "Buy" button !! 🤓
Harry T hey glad it helped. Sounds like just in time as well.
Adapt to overcome, there are times when a simple custom modification is required and that is a lot easier than getting a welding shop to build one for you. Totally enjoying these Sunday video’s, keep it up Jeff!
C Pare exactly right. Take the challenge and move forward with new skills!
This project has been fighting you these last few modifications and it's very entertaining to see you work through all the problems, well done!
Kurtis Wagner no doubt hey! But what is success if it didn’t challenge you first.
Winston 🐶😃, nephew, friends, and Jeff 👋🏻☀️👍 Great video, thanks for all the details. The finished project looks fantastic! I’m looking forward to seeing you next Sunday along with the next project 😉
Dimity Long so happy you enjoyed watching my struggle. Haha. Thank you as always, from Winston and I.
I like how you roll in theses videos. Simple explanations without bitching like some do. I’m outfitting my 2006 Dodge Sprinter and now I know where I’m going with my back step. Pretty much how did it.
Haha thanks, glad you found the channel!! No need for complaining, it is exhausting! Learn the problem, find a solution, fix it and then we can move forward!! Thanks for watching and good luck on your build!
That is crazy that it would be wrong. Well done on getting it to work!!
Dan Biggie I thought the same. Thanks for watching.
I know it’s too late, but draw tie makes a hitch that fits perfectly for
The standard bumper on 2019 2500 sprinters. I just bought one and installed it. Part number 75549
Super easy install no drilling needed.
Might help someone else out who is buying one.
Great information, thank you for sharing your details.
Bro, you deserve way more likes on all these vids. Working my way through the whole build. The hydronic heat layout/install is what got me on your vids. Now I’m starting from the beginning and watching the whole thing. Really well done content!
MOAR WINSTON!!
Great video!
That dog is awesome!
Thank you for this very informative video. I am just on the market for a hitch for my 2019 Sprinter and you have saved me a lot of aggravation.
I have been enjoying your videos and hope to see another one soon. I know that converting a van while having a full-time job is enough to fill one's life so I really appreciate that you are taking the time to share it with us.
Awesome, so glad it is bringing value for your build... Thank you very much for watching and commenting!!!
This video saved me from almost buying the wrong part!! Thanks Man!!
Perfect, glad it brought value!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nothing slows you down!
Great job👍
It looks that way once it has been edited!! LOL Thanks for watching!!
thank you dude. i was in the same situation. i'm about to do the same thing you did. your the man! i'm subbing ! happy vanning!!!
Another great video way to think out a problem and get it done
So unexpected!! Never would have thought this would be a thing! Thanks for watching
You really need to ditch anything that Kurt sells for the Mercedes-Benz. They don’t do their R&D, I had a hitch on my metris van for about a week before I pulled it off and threw it in the trash. Scraping all over the place muffler rattling on top of it just a real piss poor product. You’re better off getting an original hitch from Mercedes Benz that fits inside the bumper cover nice and high and tight. That’s what I went with. No more scraping in the driveway!
Warnings: I just put 13388 on my 2019 144 wb 2500 passenger van with standard bumper. The hitch itself fits perfectly. But the 6 bolts are too long! When you tight them, it reaches the end of thread, you feel like it's tight but not! What I need to do is adding an extra flat washer.
Interesting how we could both problems with the same hitch, yet the problems are not consistent.. How does that work? Seems like an easy solution for yours, nice work!! Thanks for watching!
Nice job. In my country, we are not allowed to install it ourselves, it must be done by a fully qualified and licensed fitment center. Sam as with the air suspension (well you can install the air suspension yourself but it must be checked and verified and tested by someone for it to be legal.
Here's the question - I received the 13358 receiver as I have a step in 2018 3500 - my question is the inner dimension between the two struts that attach to the van. Was there room some play/space ibetween the arms that attach to the van and the frame itself? I ask because I already have similar thick plates that support a ramp that sits inside the back doors - so looks like I would need an extra width of about 1/2 " . PS My hitch came without a box and the right side was bent in slightly so returning it, but in this process, I realized that I already have plates on both sides so need it a bit wider.
Too bad you didn't read directions to properly install this hitch. Hope you don't pull anything too heavy.
What are you thinking of towing?
my sprinter van 2023 170 wb you think this model work .give me the model number please
Another excellent video! Thank you! What drill press are you using?
Thanks again for watching Sherry, I have a Roybi drill press, here is a link for details.
