  • Wow, so many bad songs that really deserved last place and so many good ones that didn't deserve it! Please comment what you think about this. :) Also, from 2004 and onward I only used the last placed entry from the final, so the last placed songs from the semi-finals are not included.
Please enjoy the video and congratulations Denmark on winning the ESC 2013! :D

Great video compilation thank you. Basically the categories are
    Reasonable songs being badly sung
Bad songs being well sung and performed
Songs in languages that only a few countries understand - might explain Finland and Norway.
Technical problems weakening the performance - like the sound feedback issues that hit Jemini and was a part of the reason the girl singer was out of tune a lot of the time.
and finally some reasonable songs / singers that were just plain unlucky on the night and didn't attract votes - that is the mystery category.

  • @octaviogarciafernandez1112

some of them are really bad, but some of them are good!!! I like, for instance, Belgium(1993), Lithuania (94), Germany (95), Switzerland (98), Spain (99), Belgium (00), Denmark (02), Norway (04), Poland (08), UK (10), Switzerland (11) y Ireland (13).

  • @anabellik
    @anabellik Před 8 lety +32

Actually, most of these songs are not bad at all. I mean - of course they aren't masterpieces of music, obviously, but you could say the same about winning songs too. It only makes me think Eurovision is such a random contest. A winning song could be last if the musician wasn't so lucky, or if the political climate were different at the time.

Turkey 1987 was a catchy up-beat song that didn't deserve the last place. More like top 3 of 1987.
Spain 1983 wasn't a song for Eurovision but to say that it was anywhere near as bad as Turkey's song the same year is ridiculous. A decent song that was much too serious for the contest.
Denmark 2002 didn't deserve last either. Average but there were several worse songs that year. Fact is the winner (Latvia) wasn't better.
Finland 2009 wasn't *that* bad either. 2009 was a year with many good songs though.
Great Britain 2003 and Germany 2008 definitely *did* deserve last place.
And in 2000 Israel's "Be Happy!" song was easily the worst that year. How it ended 3rd last is anybody's guess.

My musical taste must be bad (as if i didn't realise that already by watching Eurovision vids on CZcams!) because from 2000 onwards i love most of the last placed songs! 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013....... BUT most of them did have a pretty shocking vocal / live performance. 2011 i don't get, love the simple performance, but that was a really strong year and was tight in voting. And the UK gave it lots of points so i'm not alone!

    My comments of the 2000's:
2000: Boring but the opening of the songs sound good.
2001 (Norway): One of my favorites this year. Maybe it sounds TOO GOOD for the contest?!
2001 (Iceland, not showed in the video): Another favorite, nice, smoothy melody to a good pop song.
2002: A little bit of a James Bond-feeling and she looks nice. Didn't deserve last place.
2003: HAHAHA!!! UK first last placed entry. But to be hoenst, she song is still better than Russias t.A.T.u.
2004: Why?! This sounds like a soundtrack made for a animated movie.
    2005: OK.
2006: One of my favorites and I still like it! I blame on the pretty blend and slow preformance wich didn't match the song.
2007: Irish folkmusic sounds wonderful but I think the performance (and especially the singer) seems messy. It could have been so much better!
2008 (Germany): Not bad but nothing special. Why does people have such a big hate for girlbands in the contest?!
2008 (Poland): Beautiful. Lat place?! WTF??!!!
2008 (UK): Another favorite of mine even though the melody isn't 100% perfect.
2009: This was a big surprise for me. The song is awesome!

2011: This was one of the best songs, Switzerlands best entry in years! I still like it and it didn't deserve the last place. Anna sings perfect and the song is so charming that my heart melts. Poor Switzerland! You have me on your side ;)
2012: House-pop that sounds OK but nothing more. Wasn't my favorite in the norwegian national final at all.
2013: Like Finland 2009, this was a very big surprise for me. I thought this one was gonna be top 15 or something.

I wonder how much it has to do with the languages, and how alien they sound to most Europeans. It would also explain in part why the United Kingdom and Ireland did so consistently well in those days.

I still do this day don't understand why 2006 Malta was last it was a good song .. UK 2008 really was a good and one of our best ones we had out for eurovision but then again I think a lot people from other countries have issues with the UK song.NORWAY 2012!! WHY WAS THIS SONG LAST ITS AN AMAZING SONG!!

1974 were all among the least deserved - Portugal 1974 even started a revolution!! Also Norway 1976 is great.

  • @morbidsearch

    Favourite last place entries -
    7. Portugal 1997
    6. Finland 1992
    5. Norway 1997
    4. Portugal 1974
    3. Austria 1991
    2. Luxembourg 1970
    1. Cyprus 1986
I also liked Finland 1990, Finland 1996, Norway 2004, Switzerland 2011 and Norway 2012, but I didn't include any of them because none of them actually came last.
Finland technically beat Norway in 1990 because the highest amount of points Finland got from country was 5, while Norway got no more than 4 points from any country
In 1996 there was a pre-qualifier that eliminated seven songs, so Romania actually came last in 1996
Norway 2004 got three points in the final, while Switzerland 2004 failed to get even one point, so Switzerland actually came last
And Switzerland 2011 and Norway 2012 both qualified from the semi-final

The last place is the song that has the least points in FINAL not in semi final! The last one in semi final is the worst non-qualifier! But in 2001 Iceland was also in last and in 2008 only United Kingdom was last.

Hey, now that's an interesting compilation. 1995 and 2005 and 2008. Hm. Thought Germany could book more than three last places, Oh well, those were all rather deserved, well Gracia was a bit unlucky I guess. Poor Finland.

Bar Jemini, which was bad because of 'technical difficulties', the rest of the songs are okay but forgettable. It's not a good sign when the costume choices upstage the song. Like the purple flared catsuit couple and that lady clad in deckchair material. And the times the UK came last - absolutely deserved every single time. Josh was so forgettable that even he has forgot he came last in 2010.

As a British person, I still feel embarrassed seeing our 2003 entery, even 11 years on. Denmark didn't deserve last place in 2002. Think a lot of their songs are overated but this was so good. She looks a bit like Kim Wilde used to. Also like Spain 1999

    2005: Actually a great song
2008: So bad, I'm glad I don't remember this year
2009: One of the best songs from that year, but because it had rap, it was last :(
