  • What is research study in the arts and humanities? Why is it an important thing to undertake - personally, professionally and societally?
What challenges will you face - academically and personally? How will you relate to other academic colleagues, or with your supervisors? How will you talk to the wider world about your PhD studies? How will it feel to commit to a PhD?
We spoke to PhD students and supervisors. In their words, a PhD in the arts and humanities is:
"A rollercoaster of lightbulb moments..." Sally Sutherland
"A new contribution to knowledge ... and that's a big ask..." Dr Charlotte Nicklas
"...completely amazing and a great responsibility." Dr Jenny Richardson
Watch this thirteen minute highlights version of the suite of 15 AHRC films giving a sense of the emotional and intellectual investment in studying the arts and humanities at PhD level.
    Featuring in alphabetical order.
Students: Alex Fitch (University of Brighton), Kadija George (University of Brighton), Bruce Haines (University of Kingston ), Seoyoung Kim (University of Kingston), Chloe Lee (Royal Holloway University of London), Dr Jenny Richardson (University of Brighton), Sally Sutherland (University of Brighton), Irene Torregiani (University of Oxford), Kim Walker (Royal Holloway University of London), Daniel Wheeldon (University of Edinburgh).
