This is just wonderful. I do not like all these endless comparisons, but I just listened to Haitink's rendition of this symphony. I like Furtwangler's interpretation so much more!

Greatest conductor that ever lived. Monumental. Thickness of the strings. The tempo control. Dynamics. The biggest problem is that we don't have enough of his performances recorded.

FAR FAR from the greatest. This idiotic worship needs to stop. Sloppy uninspired.

I really haven't heard this great symphony before now. Fürtwangler truly was a formidable master of knowing how to play the orchestra. Beethoven would have been excited.

Perhaps after he went deaf and didn't have to suffer through listening to it.

Perfectly interpretation, no one will be outstanding than the master, Furtwangler. Thanks

True, it is an extraordinary recording of this superb symphony. But if you let me, I think there is only one conductor that may beat Maestro Furtwangler, that is Herbert Von Karajan. Thanks!

A typically excellent Furtwängler post war performance.

Ce n'est pas étonnant. Karajan était un très mauvais chef.

It drags & sounds cumbersome. I prefer Carlos Kleiber.

Kleiber came from the Karajan i.e. Apollonian school. Bernstein and Tennstedt came from the Furtwangler i.e. Dionysian school. They're all incredibly great. Both Kleiber and Furtwangler stand alone.
