Great explanation and presentation! Some speakers in introductory videos come across like they're "talking down" to the audience, but I never got that feeling. Your instructions are very clear and complete. I was so impressed by your teaching style that I am now one of your subscribers! Good job!

I bought a couple of these about a month ago. On one I put gunny juice .5 micron on the rough side of the leather on one and left the fine side as it is. The other I did put the compound on it. Had to heat the leather to really get it on there. They're really a good product for a great price.

Ordered one through the links provided. Thanks, that seems very reasonable for what you get. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I am now a believer in leather stropping. I don't even use my sharpening stones or diamond block anymore.
I guess if I wait too long and don't maintain the edge regularly, I may need to use stones or if i get a chip or something.

I agree thats all i do unless i need to reprofile or get a chip out

I have the standalone strop but for some reason the compound never stays on the strop. Any advice?

Oh thats weird. Maybe its to smooth. Use the Strop with no compond

@@KnivesSurvival gotcha. I’m still learning more about stroping and i thought the compound was just a needed it. Thanks for the tip.

I agree with not liking the compound on the Hutsuls smooth side strop, I found powered aluminum oxide works great on that smooth surface.

A Buck 103 is factory sharpened to 13 degrees. Most of there are knives are between 13° and 16° the 103 is normally 13° or 14°.

I'm actually going to make a travel strop. I'm trying to figure out what I should affix it to the wood with. I'm thinking about epoxy but I don't know what it will do to the leather.

      Leather craft glue works great.

Why do you pull or push the knife when it comes to a strop and a stone? What's the difference?

    • @KnivesSurvival
      @KnivesSurvival  Před 2 lety +1

You pull on a strop cause you can't push it will cut into the leather. Stone is different.

@@KnivesSurvival oh yeah, duh. But with the stone, how would it affect the cut if you either pull or push? Sorry, just wanna get the most out of my tools 😀

@@phillipcase8096 most people pull their knife across a stone. It just works better. Try it

?? your video shows the opposite. Pull on the stone, push on the strop @@KnivesSurvival

I'm new to "stroping" I noticed you don't put any downward pressure in your stroke. Is that for all knives? Even smaller blades?
