As for there not being context to Freddy's dream powers in the other movies, I always thought of Freddy as just a really pissed off ghost, and he's able to appear in dreams because the afterlife and the unconcscious have some connection or something. Even in the first movie he starts messing with Nancy when she's awake, so it seemed that he chose to kill them in their nightmares even though he can do it at will. It's like he enjoys the mental violation. I always thought the dreams were just part of an allegory, because Freddy was originally disclosed as a child molester and killer in the first film before they changed it. So him haunting the dreams of the children and his sexual mannerisms towards them would have been like a metaphor for trauma and parents failing to protect their kids. It would be more poignant when Nancy stops him by simply choosing not to fear him and reclaim her own mind, with the trauma metaphor in tact. The original ending had her wake up from the dream and greet her mother and friends, before riding away into the fog. She would have won, and the girls playing jumprope would close the movie. Wes Craven never intended there to be sequels, I think part 3 even pales next to the first film. I like to watch the OG and New Nightmare like the weirdest movie duology to exist. The guy playing the ticket seller at the beginning of the film is Newline Cinema founder, Robert Shaye, his sister Lin Shaye starred in the first Nightmare on Elm Street as a teacher.
I loved the mythology that was added in this movie, it really gives context and boundaries to the world. Exploring the idea of Freddy inevitably winning and devastating Springfield is fun and sets him up as not just a goofy killer, but terrifying in his potential. Also, what's not awesome about us finding out the little girl jumping rope singing the song in other Freddy movies was Freddy's memory of his long-lost daughter he was projecting into his victim's dreams.
I have a vivid memory of seeing this in theater with my mom and brother when I was nine...and how much I HATED it. The ONE thing I never understood about Freddy....WHY did he want to be made flesh again? He had immortality and dream manipulation powers, why throw all that away by coming back to life?
This might be considered as the lightest and campiest of them all but i still found it enjoyable as a Freddy Fan. I liked how it got into more of his origins and explained how he was always able to come back in the sequels no matter what they did to him. Even Nancy thought she had him. I loved Lezlie Dean's Tracy character! Wasn't afraid to try to on Freddy and was smart as Nancy to get out of her nightmare. Same with Yaphett Kotto as Doc in his dream, never saw a adult attack Freddy like him. Good actor he was. It had a pretty good cast. Felt bad for his daughter for what she witnessed as a child, etc. I liked the Dream Demons idea, wondered if they passed up Michael Myers for a reason i asked myself, lol. Thing i never understood about the movie was why Freddy erased John Doe, Carlos & Spencer for? And i always have to turn the volume down then back up during the chalk board scene. Gosh thats one of the worse annoying/painful sounds imo. And final note, im not big on 3-D movies other than seeing them on the big screen but other than that imo they don't need it on home video release. That's just me though.
@@cuylshepherdton7437 I would love to see this imaginary movie of yours! All we got in my universe was a real shitty attempt at a movie made by a horrible director with a crap screenplay.
Actually there’s three more movies: Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Freddy Vs. Jason, and The Nightmare On Elm Street remake from 2010. Hard to believe that Yaphet Kotto went from Alien and Live And Let Die to this terrible Elm Street sequel.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare is next in the franchise, it came out in 1994 and is definitiely the strongest since 3: Dream Warriors. Heather Langencamp is back and the storyline is original for the times and way more intriguing campared to the last 3 entries before it. Enjoy!
This movie shows Freddy at his extremes. He’s at his most powerful in the entire series, having been refilling himself with souls after losing his previous set in part 4. Years of killing kids, he’s blending dreams and reality together a lot more here because he’s so strong now. Which is interesting because him his next movie, he’s at the weakest he’s ever been, even more than the original film, so he’s at a serious disadvantage to the human version of Godzilla, known as Jason. This movie is Freddy at his most cruel. Spencer’s whole sequence notwithstanding, he was merciless in his torment of John, he haunted the others with their molesting fathers and abusive mother’s. He was RUTHLESS to Carlos, taking away his hearing and then cranking it up. This was also when I think Freddy was at his funniest. Especially, oddly enough, when he’s torturing Carlos. That part where Carlos is deaf and Freddy is behind him, yelling at him, then starts dancing around? Funniest. Freddy. Moment. Ever.
From memory, John Doe was going to be Jacob in one of the original scripts and it was going to be revealed that his mother (Alice) died somewhere between The Dream Child and this movie offscreen. There is also another script version where Alice did come back but Freddy would have killed her within the first 5-10 minutes of the movie. Freddy is facing a teenage Jacob on a road at night (I think) and he reaches into a puddle on the road and pulls Alice out (covered in tar or some kind of dark liquid) and Freddy impales Alice in front of Jacob. Thank god this version was not used.
Oh, I wish you had spent more time showing Freddy getting those 3 spirits. This one was a campy one for sure and I've only seen it once, but I'll never forget how "every town has an Elm St." stuck with me. I think if a little more money had been spent this one would have been better.
He had to recruit through Alice before because he could only get to the Elm Street Children. He needed a way to the other kids. In this one he can't leave Springwood.
Oh yes, "Freddy's Dead"... the lowest point in the franchise. A live-action film by Looney Tunes but for some reason it stars Freddy Krueger. Next week: "Jason Goes to Hell", one of the low points of the "Friday the 13th" franchise (I'm starting to see a pattern here...).

That look he gives to see his Wife's reaction to Freddy playing Spencer like a Video Game and the real world look of it was PRICELESS. I rewound it 3 times. You actually do see 7,8, but it's very subtle. It's in the Kids Obituaries. There's one of a Kid who's 7, and one whose 8. They just don't put "Better Stay Up Late" with it. It took me YEARS to finally figure out where 7 and 8 were placed. The scene with the House.... There was no reason for the house to be disguised as far as the Movie logic. Those kids had never been to Springwood, so why would the house need to be disguised? No reason to disguise the House for US, because once you establish that they're on ELM STREET, we all know what House they would wind up in.
Are you guys planning on watching any of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies on the channel? I'd love to see her reaction to the dinner scene, or the insanity of part 2, or Viggo in part 3, or Matthew McConaughey being a nutjob in part 4 lol
Their was a nightmare on elm street tv series in the 80s called Freddy's Nightmares pretty good. The Friday the 13 tv series is way different than the movies. RIP Wes Craven
13:17 Freddy changed his hearing from deaf to so sensitive that it can kill him. Despite the cartoon nature of the film Freddy still shows his sadistic but playful side. The Original script sounded way better before they changed it at the time to be the final chapter then in 1991. The part where Spencer woke up to a Test pattern on the TV brought a smile to my face despite the 500hz sine wave tone used. But makes sense since a test pattern can be seen as TV sleep like the phone with Nancy so def iconic in that way
My favorite part of this movie is Johnny Depp getting smashed in the face with a frying pan and Freddy saying, "Yeah, what are you on? This looks like eggs in a frying pan to me." lmao 🤣
23:10 What she doesn't know is that in the theater the ending was in 3-D, hence why he's wearing the glasses despite not needing them. Sadly when it was transferred to VHS it became just a standard scene. The 3-D scene would not return till the Laserdisc release and it would not make its way onto DVDs till 1999.
Absolutely love both of your work and must say that I love how you guys watched the ENTIRE series of all great horror rather than picking what's great and what's not. These movies go so much deeper than just what appears on screen or even the terror it gave me at night sleeping. These films resonate deep in the human psyche and keep us all terrified. I am confident once covid is over and the United States gets moving again that New Line Cinema will continue making great movies. Also underappreciated about them to is their belief in family of artists and great talent to continue growth in film.
Leslie Deane who does Tracy in this movie had already appeared in the TV series, "Freddy's Nightmares." Yaphet Kotto who does Doc in this had already done the movie, "Alien."

That was really fun reaction! You guys always make me laugh! This film grew on me! I like the Twin Peaks and John Waters vibe it had going, the 3D is fun! And at that point of time it seemed fitting to end Freddy in a deconstruction of the series, like folding in on itself. Though Dream Warriors would have have been more fitting end with Nancy! That Said New Nightmare (1994) is my favorite, and Wes ends both Nancy, Freddy, and the entire series in a very scary triumphant fitting finale!
The things I always liked about the Friday movies and the Nightmare movies is the lore for Freddy and Jason the gets slowly revealed about them over the course of their respective franchises. It made them more interesting to me.

This movie was released on September 13th, 1991. On September 13, 2021 it turned 30 years old.
FUN FACT: Both Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes are based on true stories.
The writer who did this movie was also the one who did the ending for “In the mouth of madness” the parallels are pretty evident.
Are you guys planning on watching any of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies on the channel?
I'd love to see her reaction to the dinner scene, or the insanity of part 2, or Viggo in part 3, or Matthew McConaughey being a nutjob in part 4 lol
I am so glad to hear you say the comment about 7 and 8. I have watched that movie many times looking for that.
But makes sense since a test pattern can be seen as TV sleep like the phone with Nancy so def iconic in that way
Lol I’m so happy y’all posted I was so bored…you saved me 😍🥰🥰
Ah I can't wait for yall to get to New Nightmare. I've just recently discovered you two. Loving your channel.
My favorite part of this movie is Johnny Depp getting smashed in the face with a frying pan and Freddy saying, "Yeah, what are you on? This looks like eggs in a frying pan to me." lmao 🤣
4:44 - Robert Shaye, the producer of the series. He was also a teacher in part 4.
Fun fact: The lead actress in this movie, Lisa Zane, is the sister of Billy Zane, from Titanic.
One of my guilty pleasures. I love this movie and I get a lot of hate for it but what can I say. Oh and the freddys dead song 🔥🔥🔥
@14:27. That's actress Elinor Donahue who played Robert Young's daughter on "Father Knows Best"
3:28 this is definitely one of my favorite freddy moments
Leslie Deane who does Tracy in this movie had already appeared in the TV series, "Freddy's Nightmares." Yaphet Kotto who does Doc in this had already done the movie, "Alien."
My town does not have an elm Street, I know because I checked 25 years ago 🤣😂😱
I've actually never seen this one I think 🤔. They definitely are Rocking the Grunge look.
This was the 1st Freddy movie I watched on tv flipping through channels when I was 8 sick in bed from school I still enjoy this movie on how goofy it is
"I can relax you with these two fingers".....LOL.
Love your videos! Watched you two go through all the Friday the 13th movies and now I’m watching you dive into NOES. You two crack me up. 😆
@4:44 the guy at the ticket booth is Robert Shaye the producer of the movie. But he's credited as "L. E. Moko"
This one was always the most amusing to me. Had way more jokes and cheesiness. I enjoy it.
this is my favourite Freddy film xD just so funny and creative it's one of those so bad it's good and I love to see freddy having fun and joking around
Guess these guys knew that scene where Freddy slices off his appendages would get them flagged.
Love the vid.i saw this in 3d at the theater when it came out i was 13 and i also saw boyz in the hood in the theater the same day. Good memories!
If you're in the US, how is that possible? Boyz was a July release and Nightmare came out in September.
@@ChipWhitingtonIII boyz was still playing at the theater i went to.i guess movies played at theaters longer back then i guess
Heck ya, because Ghostbusters afterlife was out November last year, and it's still at my local theater, same with venom let there be carnage was out October, still in theaters.
Have you guys done the Halloween series yet? At very least the original and 2018 would be awesome :)
No one will ever be able to play Freddy Krueger as well as Robert Edlund he's a legend
Awww, they cut out the scene with Spencer trippin balls to Iron Butterfly: "Ina Gadda Da Vida" that scene was actually pretty dope.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare is the BEST
I can see why Freddy's Dead is not liked by the NOES fans, but I feel this is a fun movie. Consider it my guilty pleasure of the franchise. More enjoyable to me than The Dream Child imo.
"This is your brain on drugs!"
Rachel Leigh Cook: "I did it better."
Living on Elm Street as a child really fucked me up after watching these movies
The things I always liked about the Friday movies and the Nightmare movies is the lore for Freddy and Jason the gets slowly revealed about them over the course of their respective franchises. It made them more interesting to me.
That movie had limited segments shown in 3D in the cinemas way back in 1991.
Nightmare on elm street 4 and Freddy's dead were/still to this day my favorite Freddy Krueger movie. Love that monster vision t shirt, use to watch that show! awesome throwback of the 90's! Woooo!😯
This was my favorite for the longest...still is. Just hilarious for me. Love the reactions
That's Lisa Zane playing the therapist. Her brother is in a much better horror movie with William Sadler, Jada Pinkett, etc.
So excited that you're watching this movie 🍿 I love horror Fridays
That monster vision shirt is so awesome!
Love the reactions from you guys. Always entertaining and funny. Can't wait for more horror movies. Have a safe and great weekend. 😃
Each town has an "Elm Street". Dallas too if you know your history.
I always found this to be a really fun horror-comedy movie. Much more enjoyable than The Dream Child imo. But my favourites are the original, The Dream Warriors and New Nightmare. (The Nancy Trilogy)
