Just like we tranform the PC version of GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas into the best version ever, we'll do the same thing to the game that started it all, Grand Theft Auto III, the second darkest game in the series after GTA IV (plus its DLCs). Take a look of how the mods that's showcased in this video converted GTA III from Old school classic into modern gaming masterpiece.

When installing Project Neons mod, only use the "data" and "models" folder. And inside of the "data" folder, delete "gta3.dat" file and "timecyc.dat" file for stable vanilla experience with the mod.

the defective edition got everything wrong, the only thing i can think of that is good in it is the checkpoint system and support for newer systems. they done all us og fans real bad.

@@GTATrilogyGames GTA Liberty City 2001 (LC'01) is a lore friendly total conversion mod for Grand Theft Auto 3 that attempts to make the game more in line with its counterparts from later in the 3D era by updating gameplay as well as design direction to match that of its successors.
Design wise a key source has been primarily inspiration coming from Rockstar Leeds' Stories games, all while aiming to maintain GTA3's unique identity and fleshing it out through various restorations of design concepts Rockstar never had time to finish or developing on brands and ideas that were originally lacking detail.
Gameplay has been finetuned to encompass all the best elements from Vice City, San Andreas as well as Stories, enabling the player to switch outfits, explore interiors across the city, play arcade games, swim for a very limited time, fly helicopters, jump out of moving vehicles, utilize over 36 weapons and drive over 105 vehicles and much more.

One flaw every aircraft mod for GTAIII is that when you get the ability to fly, you can see the roofless skyscrapers and access to the part of the map you weren't supposed to and it breaks the immersion.
I don't know how to fix the second problem but I always wished the there would be a mod that fixes the rooftops of the building.

I think there's a collision patch that also fixes the roof but I forgot what it's called. Your gonna need to look for it

install xbox modd instead of natural hd textures because xbox modd makes the game world more brighter and it add some faetures from console versions of gta 3 and also add collisions on building roofs

Project Neons is so out of place
to me this have way too many improvments that ruins vanilla gameplay

When you remove the timecyc.dat file from the data folder of the mod it will be very fit to the game. And it looks like a great improvement to add to the vanilla game

The XBOX cars are horrible, they just ran the PS2 cars through a subdivision modifier (breaks each polygon into many more small polygons) and then slapped ugly and pointless silver bezels around headlights and wheel arches. It makes them less blocky but it's also massively full of topology problems. They often have a higher poly count than cars in GTA4 but nowhere near as detailed!

If you don't like this mod and think it's a trash then don't install it. Because everyone has different opinions and tastes, if you don't like it someone else does like it.
