I use Pixie Powders from Creative Expressions all the time. The very best thing to use under your paper is puppy pads they soak up all the water and the excess pigment that strays all over the place.
That succulent came out so gorgeous! I also really liked the grid panel card. Maybe you need to add some weight on top of whatever texture you're trying to apply to your wet panels? I really like how everything came out...even the "failures!"

Last year I made more cards than I ever have and started to get more of a feel for what I like, but before I bought everything because I saw it in a video. So I need to do alot of purging. I have a great bold floral stamp because I saw a great way to use one and now I can't even remember how to use it so it's cool, but it sits. I still struggle with finding my own style because I don't have the time in making cards that I need to develop that sense of self yet, but I'm getting there. You and I definitely share a ton of things in common for what I like. Bold, square cards, sentiment dies, geometric, etc.
It definitely takes time and experimentation to find our style. I am still working through my unused items as much as I can, and I also experience the feeling of forgetting why I purchased something... lol!
Love all of your cards. Perhaps the succulent one is the best & the grid. I've never had much success with powders & and stencils, but powders and heat embossing I love & is amazing. So fun to collaborate with you, my friend! You are a great source of inspiration and I always have fun seeing how we put our own spin on the other's techniques!
I stop myself from buying new supplies all the time. I even have a system for this. If I allowed the magpie part of my brain to reign, there would be no room for people in my home. This is my process: First I take a picture of the die or stamp or stencil, etc I think I want. Then I wait. I have a wishlist album. Later I go over my wishlist and compare supplies I desire to the ones in my stash. I also have pictures of most of my stash. Since I’m fairly organized, comparing is easy and most of the time I am able to talk myself out of buying something new. I have been paper crafting since the 90s so there isn’t much I cannot make with my stash. Another thing I do is list the supplies I have that will work for a project in the caption of an inspiration photo. I took a screenshot of the thanks card with the holographic background from this video. I already have an idea of one of the coverplate dies I have that will work for a similar look. I will look over my dies and then list possibilities in the caption of the screenshot.
Gorgeous backgrounds and I love the cards that you made. So hard to pick a favourite - maybe the first one because I adore the colours on the succulent.
Thank you for all your videos, Ardyth. I really appreciate how you gear them to what you think others would want to know/learn about. I have a couple ideas about using stencils with paint powders that I haven't tried yet. I'm wondering if leaving the stencil on the paper until the paper dries would keep the stencil image clearer. Since paint powders are watercolor, I think the paint would reactivate when you go to wash the stencil off (so you'd have a clean stencil again - eventually). The other idea is to use rubber cement on the back of a stencil before using the water and paint powder. Once everything is dry, the rubber cement would rub off pretty easily, but I don't know if the rubbing action would do something (I wouldn't want) to the dried paint powder. If it does, maybe using a fixative on the paint powder after it dries but before rubbing off the cement would work. (??) One other thing: I sometimes activate the non-sparkly paint powders with water that has some Perfect Pearls in it. It turns out just like the kind that have the shimmer in them from the get-go. :)
These are some interesting ideas for getting a cleaner look with the powders and a stencil - I have added them to my list and will give them a try. I also like the idea of using 'sparkly water' to get the shimmer - very clever! Thanks so much for watching!

Hi Ardyth, Trish here… love these cards. I think my favorite is the succulent. It is absolutely gorgeous. I have an idea for the stencil technique. Maybe if you tried watercolor paper with the pixie spray it might work better; or you could try taking a cover plate die and cut it from contact paper to use as your stencil. I’ve seen that work with regular watercolor. I’m not sure of either idea but you’ve inspired me to give all these options a go. As always, ❤your videos.

I suspect picking a thin substrate so the color will move more is why your results with the stencil differ from the ones you've seen. We're always weighing the trade-offs.
Love the blue cover plate card. The color is gorgeous. I always call them scones, with a long “o”. Yours look delicious! I also have a suggestion for the powders. What if you combined your swatches with the bottles? You could cut out circles sized to fit the top of the bottle and put the color and the number on the bottle top.
The bottle tops are curved, not flat (which is why the numbers on the tops are so small!), but otherwise that is a great idea! I'm thinking I may go back to my magnetic swatching system that I already use for my CP inks - not sure why I didn't do that in the first place, actually! lol! The grid is my fav but the succulent and the snowflakes are also wonderful. They’re all gorgeous, and your swatch chart is too! I think scone with a long or short o may perhaps be a regional thing even within Britain. I grew up saying “scon” (in NZ) and based on the travesties I’ve eaten in the USA I have decided that scōnes are a different thing all together 😆

Should I feel guilty you have all those new Magicals? It is nice to see someone else fekk down the rabbit hole! I love all these cards. They each have something to offer. My recommendation for trying to keep the white behind the stencil would be to use the Magicals my favorite way, which is as a watercolor with a brush (I like using Aqua brushes). It may be a little tedious but you can control the water better. I would use the Pixie spray, too. I use one of Tim's palettes to mix the colors and you could just continue your numbering system on the palette as the watercolors are reusable until you need to add more powder and/or water to them. I can't pick one card, Ardyth. Just like I can't pick my favorite scone although I do love savory ones. I say scone to rhyme with own. If you weren't telling me what you were saying I would have been confused! Love all your techniques.

You know, if you ever wanted to test out some color combos, I think using coin pockets for swatches are perfect. You can make little cards with colors on each, take them out and move them around put them in a binder

of course I went straight away to the shaker jar shop. I'm so glad for you in Canada because you always have to buy so much from the US and pay shipping, but I was sad for us this time because the jars are a GREAT price and perfect, but the shipping is more than I'd buy in shaker jars. They are just perfect though. I must say too, that your succulent card knocks the socks off any of the card samples Bindu has on her site. There is something about that card I just LOVE! Thanks for a great video! I have to play with my powders more. I like the tray idea that contains the mess but also the color. I'm an organizer nut so I pick up things like that all the time to use for organizing , but I've never seen a large one like that. Very good idea. I'll try your tape border idea though and see if that helps until I can find a neat tray like that. Or maybe use a cookie sheet?
Any type of box would work - I found if I do a lot of panels with that much water, a cardboard box soaks through. It's hard to choose a favorite! The grid is one, but so is the blue and green birthday card with the black background. Thank you for the bonus recipe! I usually make sweet scones, so I look forward to a more savory one!
Some interesting ideas here although I like more control of color with less water and adding more water if need be. The powders I use seem to dissolve rapidly with less water and watercolor paper grabs color better. Wetting the paper first gives different results than putting pigment down first. The sequence of process does make a difference. I use a crackle stencil or stamped image to achieve the random patterns instead of plastic wrap, but then I don't use plastic wrap for anything anymore. Also I use clear embossing or masking fluid to isolate white or colored areas, sort of like the batik process without using wax. I guess I'm not big on random results unless outer space and galaxies are the intention. It's probably why I like your use of a tray to contain the dust and organization of your collection. And the succulent turned out the best with a very unique color blend.

What a great collaboration with Sasha! I love watching both yours and her videos and it's always a bit magical to see each of your takes on the others videos! What are those little bottles you now keep your powders in? My powders are a generic version from Amazon (cheap so I could try powders out and now I want some like the ones you have - those colors are great! ) Is that the bottles they come in or are those found somewhere else, with the shaker top thing on them? Right now I use a small spoon to carefully scoop powder out of my jars which is messy and doesn't make it easy to distribute the powders. I'd love to change them into shaker bottles! Thank you for sharing such a great collaboration! Your cards were amazing as always!
The newer magicals come in these bottles, Lindy's now sells the same empty bottles for the exact purpose I used them for. I too had a hard time with the tubs. How to pick a single favorite? The grid? So clean. The snowflake? Love those colors and the shaker style center. The "failed" panel die cut on the black panel? That first color combination looks like something that Tiffany Solorio would use which is not my thing either as you know, BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! And I went ape over that succulent card when I saw it on IG! I am going to have a very hard time talking myself out of that one! And those colors are so pretty together, I think I'm going to try to figure out what an oxide or CP ink match would be so I don't have to buy more powders and use that for my Thanksgiving cards! I really love it. If you get an extra minute in your craft room, could you see if you can find a similar ink color to those powder colors for me since you have the same inks as I do. Idk what you have for oxides, but I know you have CP and I have them all.Thanks! That would be a great help if you could, if not, I'll try my best by rewatching this over and over. LOVE THOSE COLORS AND THAT SUCCULENT! If it needs a home, you have my address! Lol
@@ardyth oh! Awesome! As well as you know these inks I knew you’d know! That truly amazes me! I recently reorganized mine because I had no idea of half the colors I had. I’ve never used any spa collection colors. So I put them in a light to dark rainbow order as best as possible because I can see them all the light purples even if it’s a blue tone or red for example. I think I will get more use out of them that way. I am staggered by your familiarity with all the inks. Thank you very much. I think I’ll try to use those for Thanksgiving cards.

With the snowflake I would use versamark on the stencil to make it into a stamp, then clear heat embossing before starting the fun.

I suspect picking a thin substrate so the color will move more is why your results with the stencil differ from the ones you've seen. We're always weighing the trade-offs.

I always call them scones, with a long “o”. Yours look delicious!
I also have a suggestion for the powders. What if you combined your swatches with the bottles? You could cut out circles sized to fit the top of the bottle and put the color and the number on the bottle top.
The bottle tops are curved, not flat (which is why the numbers on the tops are so small!), but otherwise that is a great idea! I'm thinking I may go back to my magnetic swatching system that I already use for my CP inks - not sure why I didn't do that in the first place, actually! lol! The grid is my fav but the succulent and the snowflakes are also wonderful. They’re all gorgeous, and your swatch chart is too! I think scone with a long or short o may perhaps be a regional thing even within Britain. I grew up saying “scon” (in NZ) and based on the travesties I’ve eaten in the USA I have decided that scōnes are a different thing all together 😆
OMG, that made me laugh! My daughter and I were just commenting that often in the US, certainly in the South, you would maybe call them biscuits, and in fact, my neighbour (for whom I made a lot of scones over the years) always called them my 'tea biscuits'. Thanks so much for watching!
Should I feel guilty you have all those new Magicals? It is nice to see someone else fekk down the rabbit hole! I love all these cards. They each have something to offer. My recommendation for trying to keep the white behind the stencil would be to use the Magicals my favorite way, which is as a watercolor with a brush (I like using Aqua brushes). It may be a little tedious but you can control the water better. I would use the Pixie spray, too. I use one of Tim's palettes to mix the colors and you could just continue your numbering system on the palette as the watercolors are reusable until you need to add more powder and/or water to them. I can't pick one card, Ardyth. Just like I can't pick my favorite scone although I do love savory ones. I say scone to rhyme with own. If you weren't telling me what you were saying I would have been confused! Love all your techniques.
You and a few others (Frau Pony) have contributed to my fall... lol! They are so fun. I'm starting to think that it's Americans who say s-cones rather than scawns. Makes sense, given how the word is spelled! lol! Thanks for dropping by!

You know, if you ever wanted to test out some color combos, I think using coin pockets for swatches are perfect. You can make little cards with colors on each, take them out and move them around put them in a binder

of course I went straight away to the shaker jar shop. I'm so glad for you in Canada because you always have to buy so much from the US and pay shipping, but I was sad for us this time because the jars are a GREAT price and perfect, but the shipping is more than I'd buy in shaker jars. They are just perfect though. I must say too, that your succulent card knocks the socks off any of the card samples Bindu has on her site. There is something about that card I just LOVE! Thanks for a great video! I have to play with my powders more. I like the tray idea that contains the mess but also the color. I'm an organizer nut so I pick up things like that all the time to use for organizing , but I've never seen a large one like that. Very good idea. I'll try your tape border idea though and see if that helps until I can find a neat tray like that. Or maybe use a cookie sheet?
Any type of box would work - I found if I do a lot of panels with that much water, a cardboard box soaks through. What a great video! I am hoping the shakers you found are listed! What a great system even though you might not think it's just right, it looks really good to me. But I have absolutely nothing swatched. Unless my oxide pads I guess. I just don't have time to waste doing that when I don't have time to make anything. So I think your swatches and shakers are great!

Some interesting ideas here although I like more control of color with less water and adding more water if need be. The powders I use seem to dissolve rapidly with less water and watercolor paper grabs color better. Wetting the paper first gives different results than putting pigment down first. The sequence of process does make a difference. I use a crackle stencil or stamped image to achieve the random patterns instead of plastic wrap, but then I don't use plastic wrap for anything anymore. Also I use clear embossing or masking fluid to isolate white or colored areas, sort of like the batik process without using wax. I guess I'm not big on random results unless outer space and galaxies are the intention. It's probably why I like your use of a tray to contain the dust and organization of your collection. And the succulent turned out the best with a very unique color blend.

What a great collaboration with Sasha! I love watching both yours and her videos and it's always a bit magical to see each of your takes on the others videos! What are those little bottles you now keep your powders in? My powders are a generic version from Amazon (cheap so I could try powders out and now I want some like the ones you have - those colors are great! ) Is that the bottles they come in or are those found somewhere else, with the shaker top thing on them? Right now I use a small spoon to carefully scoop powder out of my jars which is messy and doesn't make it easy to distribute the powders. I'd love to change them into shaker bottles! Thank you for sharing such a great collaboration! Your cards were amazing as always!
The newer magicals come in these bottles, Lindy's now sells the same empty bottles for the exact purpose I used them for. I too had a hard time with the tubs. How to pick a single favorite? The grid? So clean. The snowflake? Love those colors and the shaker style center. The "failed" panel die cut on the black panel? The colors really pop against the black! The succulent? I like the earthiness of it. Not your usual style. You have made it hard to pick just one. One another note, where did you find the shaker bottles and do they have on line ordering?

That first color combination looks like something that Tiffany Solorio would use which is not my thing either as you know, BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! And I went ape over that succulent card when I saw it on IG! I am going to have a very hard time talking myself out of that one! And those colors are so pretty together, I think I'm going to try to figure out what an oxide or CP ink match would be so I don't have to buy more powders and use that for my Thanksgiving cards! I really love it. If you get an extra minute in your craft room, could you see if you can find a similar ink color to those powder colors for me since you have the same inks as I do. Idk what you have for oxides, but I know you have CP and I have them all.Thanks! That would be a great help if you could, if not, I'll try my best by rewatching this over and over. LOVE THOSE COLORS AND THAT SUCCULENT! If it needs a home, you have my address! Lol
CP ink matches would be maybe sauna, daydream and juniper mist, maybe a little mandarin spice.
@@ardyth oh! Awesome! As well as you know these inks I knew you’d know! That truly amazes me! I recently reorganized mine because I had no idea of half the colors I had. I’ve never used any spa collection colors. So I put them in a light to dark rainbow order as best as possible because I can see them all the light purples even if it’s a blue tone or red for example. I think I will get more use out of them that way. I am staggered by your familiarity with all the inks. Thank you very much. I think I’ll try to use those for Thanksgiving cards.
