@@GeorgeBPryor I wondered this, but I rewatched some really early simpsons on Disney+ recently and it opened my eyes to the fact that a writer can only go so far as their own experience or imagination allows. For an example in the early episodes Barney is Homer's friend, not just drinking buddy, he comes over just to hang out with Homer and knew Bart since he was a baby. The way it all works definitely feels like the writer or writers had had those kinds of friendships and interactions and wrote them into the show, a lot of that went away in modern Simpsons.

"Boy, you don't have to follow in my footsteps.."
Just that line alone is basically three jokes.
First, it's a lead-in to Bart's punchline and the ultimate punchline of the joke: Homer for once trying to be a thoughtful loving parent before getting mad one second later and choking his son.
Second, the idea that Bart in any way is trying to live up to his parents' expectations.
Third, the idea that Homer is in any way a role model for his son and should be emulated.
I know that dissecting a joke is akin to killing the joke, but goddamn the writers deserve so much love.

I don’t blame Herschel one bit for defying his father and becoming a clown
instead of a rabbi! Especially the bit where he was impersonating him at
the yeshiva until the man furiously strangled him.

I always like Rabbi Krustofsky more than Reverend Lovejoy. Krustofsky imposes respect and ultimatelt is tolerant to people who have a different opinion. Lovejoy makes a fool out of myself for most times and does not tolerate people who have a different opinion.

    • @YouHaveReachedBob

It's nothing. Dynaflow was a type of transmission, developed by GM. So it has nothing to do with Chrysler nor suspension. But it sounds cool!

My personal theory is that Krusty actually IS literate - but only in Hebrew, just not in Latin (i.e., the letters you are reading right now).
Maybe the Yeshiva he went to never taught that. Maybe it actually did, but for some reason it didn't stick with Li'l Krusty.
