  • *Please note a verbal error in this video regarding serif v. sans serif fonts. Times New Roman is a SERIF font. Arial or calibri are examples of sans serif fonts.
This is a brief screencast of creating an APA format Annotated Bibliography. It includes how to locate information in an article to create an APA citation and the layout of an APA formatted annotated bibliography.

Thank you for the "vid", very concise and clear. As a new student taking 400 level classes, my professor advised us we need to write an 8-12 page "annotated" paper. It has been more than a few years since I've written a paper like this, and the JC level classes never require it. the CSUF class does in Retirement & Financial Planning.

Very helpful. Just a technical note: Times New Roman is a "Serif" font, not a "Sans Serif."
The font you are reading here is Sans Serif -- meaning without serifs -- or in other words more of a block letter style. Serifs are the extra little "tails" or "wings" on the typeface. A side-by-side comparison makes the difference clear.
There are a variety of fonts in both styles.
(Hope that helps anyone who might not have known.)

Savina-You should never rearrange the order of the authors' names. The order typically indicates how much of the work each author did on the paper and so carries meaning.

Thank you for this step by step. I wanted to make a comment on the paragraph indentation. I was also looking on the Perdue writing lab website and it looks like in addition to the hanging indentation of the cite the annotation is indented further. Is there a difference between APA 6 and 7 that makes this difference?

It would be nice to have audio or voice over to provide context to what is being done. For example, does a blank line go between each reference and annotation or no? Because I see both in the video and no audio makes it hard to completely discern why. Unless I'm an idiot and I missed something, which is very possible.

This was a good video BUT, most important, the author's name in the reference is the only thing remaining on the left. Below the reference which is always done hanging because it is an apa reference, always indent the text below the reference lining up with the second line of the reference. This is formatted incorrectly.
