- Every summer, hundreds of jazz and hip-hop dancers audition for one of 21 coveted spots on the ultra-talented all-female dance division of the Golden State Warriors. Known for their energetic in-game performances, the Warriors Dancers are the most recognizable women on the court. Showing us what it’s really like to be a Warriors Dancer is 5-year veteran and team captain Hannie, who knows all about what goes in to the role. Like her fellow dancers, she juggles her day job with late-night rehearsals, community appearances, costume fittings, physical therapy, hair and makeup sessions, and memorizing almost 40 dance routines per season. Though it appears glamorous, the job is an enormous commitment and a labor of love, set against the backdrop of sweeping, sport-wide changes to increase inclusivity and diversity. Today’s Warriors Dance Team, previously known as the “Warriors Girls”, have done away with swimsuit calendars and pom-poms in favor of greater representation from all genders and ages. Find out what it’s like to be Hannie, how she got here, and what it's been like for her during the unexpected end of the 2019-2020 basketball season.

What It Takes To Be A Dancer For The Golden State Warriors - Sport
The amount of comments that are reducing these women to basically hookers or strippers is really disgusting... dance is a sport, these women are part-time athletes balancing that with another full-time job. They deserve real respect for what they do. Even though you might not notice them, and they’re not the focal point of the game, doesn’t mean they don’t have value
not just women. there are men cheerleaders too
@@SMAnthonyW yeah absolutely and they deserve the same respect but many of the comments were specifically derogatory towards women that's why I focused on them in the comment
Mikaela right even if they were strippers they deserve respect it’s hard
they are basically strippers, they wear next to nothing and shake their asses in front of many people. the standards for decency have gone out the window it seems.

Amazing woman, not only educated and intelligent from uni, but also talented and dedicated to dance. Respect!
At least they aren’t as strict as the NFL cheerleading team weigh-ins and they have to pay for everything at least the warriors dancers have everything from food to makeup covered by the company
jughead wuz here plus a ring.
jughead wuz here and i’m pretty sure their payed more (nba)
I’m wondering if it depends on the success of the team...
jughead wuz here right dcc could never
The best part is the food if you ask me lol oh and meeting the players
The cheerleaders have always been invisible, but I never realized how much they have to go through to get to the position they are in. This video has given me a new perspective. Thank you!
they are not cheerleaders as she says. That is why they got rid of the palm palms. They are "dancers". I have seen the dancers at the warriors games. They are good. I never knew how much they practiced and what it takes to become one. Typically the dancers come out mostly during half time and time outs. That is when I tend to go get more food or drinks.
What a lovely young lady. Smart, Talented, athletic.
Its nice to see how well they are treated by the Warriors organization; gym memberships, hair and nail stipends, meals. NFL should take notes.
what isn’t mentioned: how laughably little they’re paid.
I mean they're only really performing half time
Yup. I think most of them use this job as a resume builder.
What do u mean they makes about 50000 a year that pretty good
It's like a lottery ticket. Marrying a high paid basketball star is the payoff.
Indian asmr plus the ring.
1:22 Dwight Howard in the background😂
Lmao 😂
lol
Omg she's a software developer as well! Im so impressed with Hannie!
She seems like an incredible person! They really do select for character.
As a pro cellist in a symphony orchestra, I was jealous of them going on the stage... Such unity! Never have experienced that in such a way. Got chills. Great video.
Always amazes me whenever I see how much effort and dedication people put into doing what they love the most 💗 That is passion right there!

It's like being a valley girl without the valley...
Aye you from Trini?

I have so much respect for them now .
The most satisfying moments ever is the footsteps on beat😭😍

Agh she’s so pretty and her personality is gr8 too
Cool video. It's awesome to see passionate people work hard to be great in whatever it is they choose to do with thier life. Big respect to the awesome lady in this video

I got to go to a warriors game in February and they are such amazing dancers!
Saving this💖 It was actually one of my dreams before I graduated high school.
Amazing!!! Inspiring. Wooohoo.
It's nice she does the job she loves.
Bring In On: All Or Nothing
Such an interesting video!
She says it’s painful with a smile what a positive woman.
I always amaze how they perform.
What I find crazy about the dance world is that you almost have to be overqualified. Not in this group per day, but I find that at least on the youth level, it’s nearly impossible to make a team/performance unless you can do elements that are way harder than the performance entails. I guess it’s just to make sure that everyone is super clean tho!
you play like you practice so I guess that's why
This isn't the case. A lot of girls on the teams are weak links, many get hired on with no formal dance experience. It's a popularity contest first-impression audition. Once you make it past round one you know you have to be just likable enough to get past round two, and if you pass through to finals you know that all you have to do is nail charisma in the interview. It's a very arbitrary and very easy process, part of the reason why to me both the teams I made and the team I didnt make don't feel very special; I was probably the weak link on my first two teams and weak links got chosen over me at the final audition I embarked on. It's literally whether they like you based off of the impression you make in a very short amount of time.
This is dope
💃 Thank You!
Wowww its very good dancing keep it up very good
I love that they perform with guys and they look great together. Also free food!
As someone who dedicated 16 years to training in cheerleading, I am immensely appreciative of their goal to rebrand as dancers. While I have always had a ton of respect for professional "cheerleaders," what they do is not cheerleading at all. It is technical, difficult, impressive dance. Once my college cheer career ended, it was pretty frustrating to not be able to continue to be a cheerleader, because at the pro level, one needs a dance background, not a cheer background, to be a "cheerleader." Acknowledging that these incredibly talented athletes are truly dancers and not cheerleaders definitely eases that frustration.
It's kind of sad to see how serious they take their job and they're about as noticable as stadium decorations
Stfu
Honestly yeah, majority of the audience wasn’t even paying attention, I felt really bad.
@@princess1peach Why?
Sad? It's what they are really passion about. Plus at least they are each doing some productive with their life. Just like if you had some type of passion which we all do. Say you had a passion for playing an instrument or singing. You would do it a ton of times and even try to make a career out of it if you loved it that much. You would take it seriously because you wan to be the best and you love doing what you do. I also want to point out they seem to love what they are doing which is a major plus. How many people have you encountered that just hate their dob or better yet just dislike it but do it anyways because ''it's a job''? I have many friends like that. In fact I have one friend that has been a fire fighter for many many many many years now. That friend of mine work place has just sucked in recent year or 2. Certain people are getting promoted when they shouldn't be or certain people kissing ass. It's just all being political too. My friend is ready to retire soon and get out...that is how bad it has become. See I then ask myself well why not just get out of a job if you dislike it that much? I guess it's easier said then done. I always say...do what you love to do. Do what makes you happy.
Pasta Chocolate we get it Karen
They dance for champions. That must be great
@lAlAlEE1123 lol You 're right
It is just me? Or does there seem to be a different standard for the guy dancers? All the girls are trim and lean and gorgeous. But the guys look very... average?
Generally speaking there's more competition among female dancers than male dancers ie they might not have been able to be as choosey with male dancers because there just aren't that many of them auditioning
They all look like they have the same body it's weird :/
I wish they get health care and better pay. It’s not easy and I don’t give them enough credit. Learned a lot.
Can you survive financially just by being a dancer?
Not really. Almost all dancers for professional sports teams have other jobs or careers.
I THINK it depends what your dance for and who and what team I THINK NO HATE
lol no.
If any of these people actually looked at auditions, you would know you wouldn’t be able to even audition without having a full time job
@@jadaturner6526 are you a dancer?
Reminds me of the show Hit The Floor
I never realised how complicated being a professional dancer could be. That stuff looks really tough.
How do they have time to have other careers?
Do what it's like to be a Knicks Cheerdancer
Being a dancer isnt easy.
@IVN preprofessional training is hard. Takes dedication.
Im a warriors fan and i lowkey forget we had cheerleaders
wasn’t there a video about a Golden State warrior dancer who also talked about what’s it like to work here? Allure was it?
We forget that the dancers are technically apart of the team
Peeped the #FentyBeauty 👌🏾💕
She seems like a amazing person! The fact that people were groping them is horrible and unacceptable,
0:02 *pause*
She was going super sayan.

women that are touched without their permission should be allowed to punch the predecessor right in the face without risking their job or anything else

Atleast they're social distancing
Must be easy to keep your weight down with that schedule

Love the dieting or eating. But at the same time, eh...no need to eat. Right?
All girls why r there guys there?? Just wondering.
Good eye in noticing. This year is the first year they added men to the team. They're called the Blue Crew. www.nba.com/warriors/blue-crew
why can’t i understand some of what she’s saying? it sounds like she’s trying to talk through her teeth
Have a nice day !

Don't be fooled, pro cheer was the easiest audition I ever underwent in my life, I danced for Brandi McCoy of Charlotte's pro team legacy and was a finalist for the NY Jets at just 19.
Wow! Are you still dancing for a team today?
I wish there were more brown and black women

I hate that you have to be skinny to perform or to be good enough
It sucks because they lose every game probably ;)
wtf are you blabbing about? do you even watch sports how can a team lose every game?
@@fillup316 Golden State easily can
why don't they just pay the dancers a little bit more? these cheapskate billionaire owners can't pay them a little more to make it sustainable?
so she was like, screw helping people, i just gotta dance dude
No, she simply lost passion for medicine.
“Software developer” of course
whats wrong w being a software developer
@@XiaoLongBao2022 she means that the girl is full of sh@t

#1 don’t be a dark skinned bw Yet using drill team moves from black culture
InHisImage&Likeness They have a diverse group there. Asian, Hispanic, and African Americans.
infallibleblue nope. They don’t
@@FriendofYahweh29 They do, just because you don’t see lupita on this team doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to be a dancer or there isn’t. I’ve seen a lot.
If i'm going to a basketball game, I only want to see the game. This "1 minute dance" for "entertainment" seems pretty futile. If you're going to dedicate 6 hours or basically the entire day to dancing, you might as well be putting all that effort into somewhere else imo
Dancing is fun for some people. Not sure why she is receiving so much pity in the comments.
I love to crochet. Even though i am wasting hours on something that others wont even use doesnt mean i don't love doing it
Stevo Canuck it’s called a passion - something that brings you joy when you do it, if it makes you feel fulfilled and happy why stop?
Irony is that so called "feminist" are probably going to be the death of this profession.
Wtf are those dudes doing there. Stealing jobs from women?
More black and brown females please! The team and cheerleaders should reflect some commonalities! I don't see that here. Disappointing 🤔🤔
It is just another way of selling sex appeal. Women are dressed skimpily and men are dressed in full. If it is about sports, why don't they dress the same?
