ever as good as Ricky, but we will have fun. HOWEVER our Frontiers vid will be awesome as my wife will be doing a 2-player co-op for that going against Khan! THAT will be good!!
That sounds really great! I've never seen a two player co-op series for Mage Knight or Frontiers, and I've definitely been interested in seeing the expansion.
after getting into hobby board gaming I bought mage Knight after watching Ricky Royals play through, and it was instantly my favorite board game of all time, excited to see this great game get some love. good luck . love your channel, keep up the great videos

If you want to save a bit of space, put one of the spell and Advanced cards on top of their deck. Use the one at the bottom of the line as the one that will disappear at the end of the round and you can slide the others down, then draw a new one.
Good thinking! I just have them in piles off to the side as it makes it easier for recording! But I will do that when I play at home!

I just played two games of the solo conquest from the base game (defeat two cities) this weekend. I wanted to play Volkare's Return today, but was rusty on the rules/setup. Then wouldn't you know, this video pops up a few hours later. Perfect timing and a great video!!

TRAGIC! Yes I will mention that I think he did a 4 player game that lasted 37 episodes!
I would go with "Great Start" to get those extra two cards. Your starting hand has plenty of movement, but need some more attack to hopefully help you take out that Keep.
"Tranquility" will help you heal any wounds from the Keep battle on your next turn (or end of this one), and defeating the Keep will boost your card draw by one for next round. Looks like a good setup so far!!!

I have Frontiers (I happened to be in a store on the day it was released) and it seemed silly to own both... But the price was too good... Only about twice what the expansion would be. It seems to me that the theme comes across much more strongly in Mage Knight.
Waiting until August is going to kill me though.
HA I get you, I have both as the theme is different enough for me. But I for sure prefer mage knight!

I haven't played my copy of Mage Knight in a couple of years, and I've been really tempted to pull this one out again. I'm moving, though, so I don't have the space to do it right now. So excited to watch your playthrough instead! :-)

Heck yes! Love it when you can watch a game played for entertainment. Lets be honest that is what we are doing with this one, most people know how to play i just wanted to get it to the table again, and what better way to do it than with you all!
Woo hoo! Looking forward to it. I like 4 early. I find I tend to need 1 extra card early on. and the dummy doesn't go as fast. So I go slower and often have 2 cards left in my hand. Plus, I get really bummed when I lose it. I'm the opposite when it comes to 5. It's a good one later on, when you know you're starting the day right next to a big fight. Early on, it just gets you going faster, but it's not a race in the solo game. (i.e. In a multiplayer game, it's a great card)
So Kevin, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't lose the card that Volkare takes right? Based on how I read the rules in Lost Legion, I only lose the tactic I picked for the round. Do you not agree?
You could be right. I'm used to the Solo Conquest Rules. I'd still take 4 now. 5 is pretty much pointless at the start of a solo game.

I agree with Kevin, card 5 is always great ofc, but since you only use it once, it's more useful on day 2 or even 3. Especially since you know you'll not randomly lose it.
I'd go with Mana Steal. It's a bit of a weird choice, but looking at the board and your hand you might have a hard time getting into that keep (which seems the only viable path for you). One extra mana is great especially at first, when you have no crystals or mana-generating tokens. With Mana Draw you could potentially use 3 mana dice for the keep fight. Just have to hope you'll draw some attack cards fast.
Looking forward to the playthrough btw, I'm interested in both Lost Legion and Krang character pack :)

a funny thing happend in your set up : you placed Magic Talent in spot 1 & Burning Shield in spot 3 first ! it will change timing for card replacement :-) who cares ? it is only fun !
Mage Knight board game is deep...deep...I am still learning...after 100's games...
Choosing a Tactic card is easy. Considering what will happen if Volkare's Tactic card will provoke because you took Great Start (everything in the comment about this card is wright) isn't. let say he will start, draw a color spell and reroll your Gold die...that you expected to use for green Move 4...there you are with your 7 cards in hand ! ...you play 2 of them...and you will have to start your next turn with the same 5 cards...or discard some at the end of your 1 turn...That is what I like in this game...and this was just one possibility... CZcams is CZcams. Play by Forum on BGG is for the next steps...if people want to play more than 3 times...

I like card 4 too, gives you more cards every turn.

I think you should take tactic 4. If you pick 4 and Volkare picks 5 or 6 you will end up being better off for the entire round. I am not a big fan of Great Start when playing solo, I'd rather have a great round. I agree with the comments saying that it is better in later rounds when you start the round next to a city or something.
Well I recorded yesterday, and I picked 4! So we will see how it works out for us. I decided 5 will be better when we are just about to take on the city!

I feel that 5 or 3 is a good choice, since volkare is random 1 isn't useful for now, 2 is only good if you got a bad hand which you didnt . 4 is good when you have stronger cards and 6 is great if you have a lot of things you can do. 3 allows you to take an extra mana dice if I am not mistaken and a few of your cards have good charge abilities. 5 is okay if you aren't sure what you want to do first(two purples can be hard to take down but if there are good cards in the spell and advance deck go for it).

3:37 amount of advanced action cards ans spells are always 3, regardless of the number of player.
Hey Colin, I can't remember for sure, but doesn't Volkare count towards the player count for the advanced actions? Excited to see your play through, and I'd say, go for tactic 5.

I’ll suggest 3. 5 makes you go through your deck quicker which might not be a good thing.
3 is such a good one, I feel like I want to save it for the future! I agree on Great Start running through our deck may not be the best option, but this one is a race against Volkare. . I dunno so many options!
One Stop Co-op Shop yea, I haven’t played this one so maybe the faster dig throughts the deck might be good. Not so sure. I generally like the extra crystal options to go for more powerful effects, faster movement etc. either way the two are good options.

Great video ! Thank you. I'm really hesitating to get the ultimate version in my language (French), instead of the 2nd hand MK box I bought for 20euros... do you think it's worth it? The Lost Legion extension is 49 euros alone... maybe it's better if I grab the whole thing in French and brand new? What do you think? I really enjoy playing, I played few games alone and it's amazing. Coop games are also great.

I would suggest Mage Knight > Dungeon Alliance > Gloomhaven for solo! Hope that helps!
