If I could, I would give this video 3 thumbs up🌻. Not only is the video visually beautiful and well narrated, I absolutely love and appreciate the fact that you discussed your culture and a seeming lack of diversity when it comes to visiting national parks and other outdoorsy activities. I am Black and when my family and I hike or visit places like Yosemite I very rarely see other Black people. It is such a shame to me that so many people of color have internalized the idea that this kind if thing is not for us. Being close to the earth is the birth right of every human being and we miss out on so much without this connection. We learn so much through travel and exploration and nature. Keep doing this work and spreading beautiful energy! 🌻

Your comment on being Asian/a POC who is interested in the outdoors and how people tend to be shocked or not believe that you are outdoorsy is really poignant. As a multiracial female of color, aside from the native american stereotyping, I also definitely feel this and it is great to see you guys out on the trail! I also think your way of presenting nature in a much more calm Thoreau-esque vibe is wonderful and fights against the idea that nature is something to be conquered. It is why you are by far my favorite hiking/nature based program. : ) Keep it up!

I have watched many of your videos and have enjoyed them all. This video with your different twist on it was a very interesting change of pace. I like your perspective, having your background really allows you to look at it from a point of view that not everyone can see or have an understanding with. I don't see many Asian people on the trails in my area (SE PA) but in Harriman State Park in New York, there are often groups of hikers with similar backgrounds as yours. The biggest difference is the language barrier. Often times we would say good morning or hello and not get any response, I know they're not being rude, I think they just don't understand. I always enjoy seeing people come to the woods to enjoy nature. It's a beautiful and peaceful place we should all take the time to respect and enjoy.

@@robertlee2170 Yes, that's right. Korea is a wonderful place surrounded by beautiful mountains. If you are planning to come to Seoul, the capital of Korea, you may want to start hiking to Buk-han-san Mountain first. And if you experience Korean food culture Muk-bang, it will definitely be a delicious trip. Ps. But until the Covid-19 Vaccine came out... You have to refrain from traveling abroad and wait.
We took a trip to Mesa Verde as a family really enjoyed the trail you discussed around 39:26. Kids thought it was fun to see the pictographs. It is a great hike I believe because you get great views of the mesa, cliff dwellings, vegetation and the pictographs. Looks like you had a good trip and experience.
I clicked on the two national park URLs at the top of the page and was told I was not authorized to access those pages. 😒 I'm so happy I found this because I wasn't able to access the page when it originally appeared on the channel and was so disappointed I would not be able to watch it. Second video of yours I've seen. I love how you narrate the entire trip and show so many different aspects of your adventures (travel, food, community, hiking, scenery, etc) it gives a great persepctive what what a trip to these locations is really like. Keep up the great work!
This is crazy! I thought this kinda place was only found in my home state Chihuahua in Mexico. Here the archaeological site is called "40 Casas" (40 houses) and is literally a twin city of the ancient one found in Mesa Verde, same structures, same artifacts, same patterns in the ceramics and walls, same architecture and pretty much same layout of a city embedded in rock/cave but over 700 miles south on a perfect straight line! I'm mind-blown
This is such a great video. Traveling, learning from others, learning about cultures and history is so interesting. Now during Covid19 shelter-in-place, I see this group, talking together, learning of each others backgrounds and interests, I really miss university. Hopefully that will happen again shortly. If you ever return to Colorado, take the Durango to Silverton train ride...Silverton Narrow Gauge. Man, talk about God's country! Your camera will go absolutely ape...the scenery is epic to say the least.
I noticed to use a katadyne filter. If you're looking to shave some weight, try a sawyer filter. They come in a mini size and a slightly larger size. The larger one has a million gallon guarantee and is way lighter than the katadyne. It has a 1 micron filtration as well. The best part is it's cheaper too, least mine was. Love your vids.

Neither, It screws onto a bag (that it comes with) and you just squeeze the bag or hang it upside down and let gravity do it. It also screws onto water bottles so you can drink directly from the filter. Saywer also makes an inline filter (the mini) for camelback type hydration systems. You just add the filter to your drinking tube and you're good to go. I used the regular sized Sawyer on the AT.
by the way, those skins(native american slang for native lol) they used to run up those ladders that you guys were crawling up on, same went for their dogs, they ran up the ladders as well as children, just some knowledge from a fellow indigenous native

Haha yeah, they pampered us quite a bit! I have to admit it was nice. They've already seen the first two parts, though I haven't gotten around to letting them know the full thing is up, haha. A lot of the conversations on the trip was us reflecting on what we'd seen (for me, I was especially interested in the history of the indigenous people who live there). But I also had some late night talks with people both about society as a whole, and also about our lives on an individual level. Since everyone there was trying to make their own art form (be it photography or blogs or something else) a larger part of their life, that was definitely something we talked about a lot. As for when it's the usual Adventure Archives group, we talk a lot about society, and how we can live our lives in a way that contributes something positive to society. We also talk about how things could change for the better, and talk about social problems like homelessness or what have you. Thanks so much for watching! You ask an interesting question around the 21 minute mark; "How do we get more people to enjoin the parks?" I know the sentiment. I've found some amazing trails and then tell everyone I know about them hoping they too can experience the same awe and wonder. It is kind of paradoxical though because if all these people did in fact start hiking these trails then the trails become crowded and they lose their solitude. Hence, I want more people to enjoy these places and, then again, not too many people. haha.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I think the solution is first to make sure people know how to respect nature so that places don't get littered. But I also think it's important to push our society as a whole to protect wilderness areas from resource extraction, and even to restore and create new wilderness areas. Thanks for watching!! -Andrew

Thank you so much! A lot of it is hardware. You want to get a smooth/fluid moving tripod. We have a pretty heavy duty one from Monfrotto, which you can find here: amzn.to/1nhkBrF and amzn.to/UKa55r There are definitely cheaper options, though, like this: amzn.to/2bzYiE0 It's got a smooth head, but it takes a tad more practice to get it looking as good. Sometimes we do use some stabilizing/smoothing effects if the pans aren't perfect, though, and they can definitely help. Thanks for watching! -Andrew

At about the 4:20 mark to about 5:50 in the haunted basement "scene" don't tell us your camera batteries needed charging and you had to use your cell phone, but rather you are a "found footage auteur."
Yup - we used to use a Keyboard and just record the sounds directly. Now we just use a keyboard to control the program Logic Pro which is on iOS. In the past, we've used the program Reaper. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

It really angers me that so many people in this country, our own citizens, have been made to feel as though they don't belong somewhere because of some meaningless thing like their ethnic ancestry. These parks are all of ours. If you were born here or if you are a naturalized citizen of this country these parks are yours to visit, your to enjoy and yours to nurture. We are all stewards of this land and we need everyone.
i tell ya, they need to get some more russian and japanese stuff in colorado parks.. needs to be more inclusive.. maybe some pakistani and zulu stuff.. sumoyan.. hm dont want anyone to feel left out of the history of colorado or anything.. i think e.t. needs a museum there too
Hi there! The plant we smoked is called mullein. It is a medicinal plant which is known to have properties that help with respiratory problems. Smoking is one method of using the plant, though you can also make tea with its leaves and flowers. Thank you for watching! -Andrew
to me it sounds ironic that lack of attendee diversity is constantly reinforced as an issue in this video. In my anecdotal experience, every visit I make to national parks and state parks there are more "minority" american and international attendees than otherwise. So I dont know where this concept comes from, unless I have had numerous atypical experiences since I was a kid.
I agree and that's what I have seen as well. As a National Park fanatic I have been going for years. There are a lot of caucasians but probably close to half the attendees are of Asian descent or Asian tourist. I have not seen a lack of diversity at the parks.
Fair enough, but the concept does come from research and perspectives from people of color, especially Black Americans. A 2009 survey by the NPS found that African-Ams only composed 7% of the visitor total. And when you talk to people in the black community, stereotypes persist b/c of racist histories when it comes to access to parks, pools, beaches and other "public" spaces that were dominated by white folks. This isn't to say that black and brown people don't enjoy the outdoors. But there is a division, b/c of multiple cultural factors. And I think it's great that Adventure Archives feels the need to mention that. (And keep in mind -- Asian tourists are usually much more economically privileged, not to mention we do not feel the same history of racism when we access public spaces. I'm first-gen Asian.) I noticed to use a katadyne filter. If you're looking to shave some weight, try a sawyer filter. They come in a mini size and a slightly larger size. The larger one has a million gallon guarantee and is way lighter than the katadyne. It has a 1 micron filtration as well. The best part is it's cheaper too, least mine was. Love your vids.

Neither, It screws onto a bag (that it comes with) and you just squeeze the bag or hang it upside down and let gravity do it. It also screws onto water bottles so you can drink directly from the filter. Saywer also makes an inline filter (the mini) for camelback type hydration systems. You just add the filter to your drinking tube and you're good to go. I used the regular sized Sawyer on the AT.

by the way, those skins(native american slang for native lol) they used to run up those ladders that you guys were crawling up on, same went for their dogs, they ran up the ladders as well as children, just some knowledge from a fellow indigenous native

Haha yeah, they pampered us quite a bit! I have to admit it was nice. They've already seen the first two parts, though I haven't gotten around to letting them know the full thing is up, haha.
A lot of the conversations on the trip was us reflecting on what we'd seen (for me, I was especially interested in the history of the indigenous people who live there). But I also had some late night talks with people both about society as a whole, and also about our lives on an individual level. Since everyone there was trying to make their own art form (be it photography or blogs or something else) a larger part of their life, that was definitely something we talked about a lot.
As for when it's the usual Adventure Archives group, we talk a lot about society, and how we can live our lives in a way that contributes something positive to society. We also talk about how things could change for the better, and talk about social problems like homelessness or what have you.

You ask an interesting question around the 21 minute mark; "How do we get more people to enjoin the parks?" I know the sentiment. I've found some amazing trails and then tell everyone I know about them hoping they too can experience the same awe and wonder. It is kind of paradoxical though because if all these people did in fact start hiking these trails then the trails become crowded and they lose their solitude. Hence, I want more people to enjoy these places and, then again, not too many people. haha.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I think the solution is first to make sure people know how to respect nature so that places don't get littered. But I also think it's important to push our society as a whole to protect wilderness areas from resource extraction, and even to restore and create new wilderness areas. Thanks for watching!! -Andrew

There are definitely cheaper options, though, like this: amzn.to/2bzYiE0 It's got a smooth head, but it takes a tad more practice to get it looking as good.

Yup - we used to use a Keyboard and just record the sounds directly. Now we just use a keyboard to control the program Logic Pro which is on iOS. In the past, we've used the program Reaper. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

It really angers me that so many people in this country, our own citizens, have been made to feel as though they don't belong somewhere because of some meaningless thing like their ethnic ancestry. These parks are all of ours. If you were born here or if you are a naturalized citizen of this country these parks are yours to visit, your to enjoy and yours to nurture. We are all stewards of this land and we need everyone.

to me it sounds ironic that lack of attendee diversity is constantly reinforced as an issue in this video. In my anecdotal experience, every visit I make to national parks and state parks there are more "minority" american and international attendees than otherwise. So I dont know where this concept comes from, unless I have had numerous atypical experiences since I was a kid.
I agree and that's what I have seen as well. As a National Park fanatic I have been going for years. There are a lot of caucasians but probably close to half the attendees are of Asian descent or Asian tourist. I have not seen a lack of diversity at the parks.
Fair enough, but the concept does come from research and perspectives from people of color, especially Black Americans. A 2009 survey by the NPS found that African-Ams only composed 7% of the visitor total. And when you talk to people in the black community, stereotypes persist b/c of racist histories when it comes to access to parks, pools, beaches and other "public" spaces that were dominated by white folks.
This isn't to say that black and brown people don't enjoy the outdoors. But there is a division, b/c of multiple cultural factors. And I think it's great that Adventure Archives feels the need to mention that. (And keep in mind -- Asian tourists are usually much more economically privileged, not to mention we do not feel the same history of racism when we access public spaces. I'm first-gen Asian.)
