Behringer UB-Xa - Some of my patches - Part One

  • I am still enjoying the UB-Xa very much. It's a fun synth to program patches and play away. Fortunately the red display does not bother me, I found a good contrast value and can view it from where I sit or stand.
    Playing some of the patches I created, maybe this is useful for you if you are interested in this synth. Every musician has a different taste when it comes to sound design, I like warm and mellow sounds, pads and stabs or fast decays. And some reverb, chorus and for some sounds also delay.
    I will release probably two more of this kind.

    It has definitely that vintage Oberheim sound quality from the first half of the eighties. My order is still not delivered and it was almost two months ago. I hope that I will get the shipment this year! 😉

    Can this be used as a controller for DAW? Enough throw for piano sounds? I'm really after the poly aftertouch and it's between this and Hydrasynth Delux.

    • @gin-sonic
      @gin-sonic  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi! Yes it works as a midi controller, the knobs transmit MIDI, not sure about the buttons. Even Volume transmits CC7. I am fine with the PAT but this is my first PAT keyboard and nothing to compare to.
      Playing piano with it I don't know. I played Rhodes sounds with it and was quite happy with the result but the keybed is very light. If that is your main interest I would go for something else. NI has an 88 PAT keyboard with hammer action now.

    • @ionian8606
      @ionian8606 Před 5 měsíci

      CC7 TX is counterproductive if you’re using the UBxa as a controller… turn volume down and your controlled synth is silent. I’ve resorted to setting my Hydrasynth desktop to not receive CCs as a work-around which I’m sure will become limiting.

    Nice sounds. What did you set your contrast to for the display. I have mine at 20/21. It helps, but when viewed from certain angles from the side, everything still washes out.

    • @gin-sonic
      @gin-sonic  Před 5 měsíci +1

      My display is on 14 :) And yes you can only see it from a certain angle which should not be the case in 2024. Not sure why Behringer does that but i enjoy the synth too much to be bothered.

      Thanks! I sold the UB-Xa just a few days ago - after I compared it to my Propeth 12 and was able to create similar sounding patches on it. (See my other video) So similar (to me) that I decided to get rid of it although the UB-Xa is a fine synth. It really sounds wonderful.

    banks a b c d should hold 128 presets each yet i just received mine and am missing about 15 presets - the names of the presets are listed in the ub-xa manual yet only covers bank A- what about the names for the the rest of the presets in bank b c d - certain company states 512 presets yet manual states it should have 403 and mine contains 498- this is too much- spke to tech and there is a wa being researched on how to get all presets- i love it but seems like im missing alot of the meat...

    • @gin-sonic
      @gin-sonic  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I can only suggest to go through the banks once(except A, which s***s!) and write down your favorite patches on a sheet of paper... and then just overwrite all others with your own sounds.
      The most important button combination is SHIFT+WRITE to initialize a patch!!!
      I created my own init patch and stored it on A1 so I can start with my favorite settings already. Including some in the mod matrix for PolyAT and Velocity.
      Enjoy the UB-Xa!

    è un bel synth, sopra tutto per quello che costa ma, ho notato che, sugli attacchi è rumoroso, sputacchia e tossisce e questo non è buono. Finchè si fanno dei pad... va benissimo. Finchè si fanno dei suoni con inviluppi... va benissimo. Finchè si fanno dei suoni con l'attack aperto per fare brass ... va benissimo. Ma se si vogliono fare dei suoni legnosi, corti, per fare ad esempio dei synth solos o delle sequenze, dove l'attacco deve essere chiuso, netto e deciso, ecco che ubx-A cade miseramente e diventa ingestibile. Produce un rumore odioso che impedisce di creare suoni del genere. Un vero peccato. Spero che in futuro con prossimi aggiornamenti, possano risolvere questa brutta cosa.
