Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ Perfect Bright Red Fall Color on a Japanese Maple!

  • Acer palmatum Osakazuki is a striking Japanese maple renowned for its large, amoenum-style leaves. It emerges in spring with light green foliage that deepens to a rich, full green by mid-summer. However, its standout feature is its brilliant, vibrant red fall color, often described as among the brightest of all Japanese maples. Growing to about 12-14 feet in 15 years, it forms a mid-size upright tree that serves well as a focal point or shade provider for smaller maples. Osakazuki pairs beautifully with laceleaf varieties in golds and yellows, and particularly complements Acer palmatum dissectum 'Waterfall'. Another classic pairing is with Acer palmatum 'Hogyoku', which contrasts Osakazuki's bright red with bold orange foliage in the fall. This variety thrives in zones 5-9, tolerating both cold and heat well, though it benefits from some afternoon shade in hotter climates. Osakazuki's name derives not from Osaka, Japan, but rather from a Japanese drinking cup due to its vivid red fall color, making it a beloved choice for landscapes seeking intense autumn hues.

    nothing really beats seeing a plot of land that has all the colors and sizes. just and orgy of color from light green, yellow, orange pink, red and crimson. some are even variegated. it's almost to the point where you don't even really need annuals or anything that flowers.

    Hello, I have a Coral Bark Japanese maple tree. The tree is planted in the ground, somehow, it is not doing too well, the leaves as slowly dying, especially at the top of the tree and working its way down. I've checked the ph level and it is registering 7.-8. Based on some of the research I've done thus far, I need to reduce the Ph level to 5.5-6.5. Can you confirm? Also, what would be the ideal fertilizer for this particular tree? I've heard people said Happy Frog Japanese Maple 4-3-4 is good. Thanking you in advance. LV

    • @yakofdez4698
      @yakofdez4698 Před rokem

      Yes, japanese maples like slightly acidic soils. As for the fertilizer, Mr. Maple recommends not to overfertilize th trees and in any case use a fertilizer with a nitrogen level below 15. If I recall correctly they said they use 10 at their nursery.
