I think another factor the Japanese considered was rally & other forms of racing. Rallying needs reliability & the ability to tune the engine for better performance. All things put together make the Japanese machines so reliable even when producing excess performance.

Its a free market anyone can Spend on research and bring up new tech. Why can't tata then. Why we Presume that only big company can debut with technologies
Bcoz when Tata was busy with twin CNG and fancy features, other companies focused on engine and reliability.
In India more power means more tax on car. Tax on toyota fortune can go as high as 48%. That's why our car makers can't just push too much power in their cars.

Every remarkable tuning engines had cast iron block, from American V8's to Jdm engines but modern days everyone are going for cast aluminum blocks for weight saving and many other factors.

Recently i was i watching an episode of initial d 5th stage where the gream reaper gtr comes and i honestly say this that the car culture in India is still far to be developed into a Fully grown boy , the thing is our government doesn't tooerate anything, even of its slight modification and rto takes huge bribes and also fines a lot so car from jdm market selling above 1 crore is too confusing , still the old Nissan,toyota and Honda had grat influence

I recently found out that this getelmen agreement was only for papers....someone measured hp of stock the skyline gtr of that time on dyno and found out it has over 300+ hp on wheels which was mentioned under 276hp on paper...so that's that.

Both the supra and GTR made "276" horsepower due to regulations but when tested on the Dyno,they make much more so I didn't get why you chose to say the actual horsepower figures of the supra but the limited figures for the GTR.
