Dude I searched for this clip _forever._ This scene was pretty much my favorite scene in the show for a long time. I could find the first part, but not the part where he actually 'tastes the symmetry'. Hahaha, I love it.
It was the best show because Tony Shalhoub was beautiful. Ted Levine was beautiful. Stanley Kamel was beautiful. Hector Elizondo was beautiful. Some of the guest stars were beautiful. S**h0t guys.
I haven't watched the show (full episodes anyway, yea I know I need to get on that) but even I can tell through Shaloub's performance in this scene that this is probably the happiest that Monk has ever been in his entire life. 🤣🤣
Ha ha! That's a great scene - I love the way he is totally absorbed by the concept of a rectangular salad vegetable to the exclusion of everything else! It's got to be a future classic....
Not to put a damper on anyone's enthusiasm about the square tomato... ...but there is round bread. I am right now having a perfectly round sea-salt crispbread, with cheese from a round Yule cheese. No overlap, no overhang...
Actually, Square produce would be awesome and he's not wrong about every slice being the same size, there's nothing wasted, how often do you slice up a tomato to put out for you and your family to make sandwiches with and there's always a few of the smallest ones from the edges that no one wants that you just end up tossing? it's not a cure for cancer but it's a pretty significant achievement.
I took a chance and bought season 5 for $2.50 and then a week later season 2 for $3.50 at a pawn shop two weeks ago and now I'm addicted. It is so funny. Had to buy the entire Box Set online today. Better late than never. Dec. 16, 2020.
From what I have heard from others they had a ridiculous level of failure when it came to attention to details like that in this show. It was to the point that I think its a joke to counter how perfect Monk needed everything.
He wasn't allergic to tomatoes. They gave him indigestion. They actually addressed this in the scene because Monk THINKS it's the asymmetry that gave him indigestion and apparently eating a square tomato fixed it. This may suggest that his "tomato allergy" was also another one of his psychosomatic problems.
@@Blasted2Oblivion Also, "Mr. Monk and the TV Star" (episode about a detective show actor who kills hos ex-wife), while visiting the set of the that detective show, Monk finds a bunch of continuity errors during filming. The director stops Monk from bringing them up by telling him "...it doesn't have to be perfect". I like to think that's a reference to all the continuity errors in "Monk" 😀.
I often wondered what the world would be like if everyone was like Monk. The world be very particular about very specific things, but it really always has been, just about different things. The world would be a lot nicer
Its one of those things a lot of people don't realize bothers them until someone points it out. Stuff that don't fit in the rest of the sandwich bugs me a little too. I actually turn the sandwich around and bit off the extra, with those I wouldn't have to.
Because you were doing it wrong - you cut the tomatoe slice half and line up straight edge of the slice to a bread boundary. But before cutting the tomato you put it for a few seconds into to a boiling water, then into cold water and remove the skin.
For anyone that thinks that this is a stupid bit that is impossible to do in real life. Lookup square watermelons. Also apparently it is possible to grow square tomatoes as well. Though they never took off.
But it won't make a symmetrical sandwich, because slices are all of different diameters. With a square tomato the sandwich only needs one slice since that reaches all 4 corners.
"You can taste the symmetry!"
That used to be my favorite line when I was younger. I'm a little sad that I had forgotten it until I found this clip.
I think Mr Monk may be a Thanos fanboy. I mean, try to convince me he would not love this line
Thanos: PErfectly balanced. As all things should be.

But are you happy to have rediscovered it? :)
"How does it taste?
Who cares? It´s a square!" :D
lol
The previous tomato genetic modifications pretty much left them tasting like cardboard, anyway.

Really nice of the lady to give Monk a square tomato because he was so fascinated by it.
It's always good to see Monk happy.
Yeah, I know. It's heartbreaking when he cries, even for trivial stuff coz he's uncomfortable and hurting in so much pain on the inside😔
Like when he got a job where he was a drone doing the same thing everyday
Good. Or frightening, like here.
"Your doing the lord's work "

Monk: it's the perfect sandwich! look, no overlap! mmm, you can taste the symmetry!
Monk: it virtually eliminates indigestion!

One of the greatest detective series ever made! absolute genius!
“This’ll virtually eliminate indigestion” -Adrian Monk about square tomatoes

legofan370 accurate lmao
At least since Trudy died
If Monk was a researcher he'd dedicate his life to making every square vegetable imagineable!
i love it when he puts the tomato on the sandwich and he gives that "point" at it, i laughed my butt off when he does that little point jump move.
i love how at 1:10 he says "finally!"
haha, like he's really been dreaming of this moment.
The jump and the excited “it’s a perfect sandwich!” Is amazing.
"You can taste the symmetry!" obviously, this is death the kid's real father.

I think Monk is only "allergic" to tomatoes because they're round. XD

Mr. Monk on Wheels - Season 7.

I miss Monk, what a great show!! Loved this bit, brilliant!!
came here for hearing his originial voice (only knowing his german) maaaan he sounds so cute in the last 20 secs
She should have told him the wheels on the bike were square. He would have run right out to find it.

There is an episode having the scene you described.

I used to love this show. Thanks for uploading.
Monk is the Greatest Universal/Touchstone Show Ever.
In Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum, it’s mentioned he is allergic to tomatoes.
"You can taste the symmetry!"
I LOVE Monk! This is such a great tribute to Monk ❤️ I actually have a podcast all about Monk if you’re interested in listening it’s in on my page 😊

I almost died the first time I heard that part. *exhales* You can taste the symmetry! XDXDXD
THANK YOUUU
i have been trying to find this scene for a long time
I couldn't help but smile watching :) Man I really miss this show!
I would have taken it home and picked out the seeds so I can grow more of those perfectly symmetrical tomatoes. ; ) ( . Y . )
If it's a hybrid you can't grow it from seeds, they don't breed true. You'd have to take cuttings and propagate those.
The best part is when Monk actually goes to get the bike which he doesn’t want to die and then gets shot in the leg. xD
what episode is this one?
DUDE, MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY. I thought I was the only one bugged by regular tomatoes this much
probably best TV show ever made in my opinion
the scene when he drops his keys in the coffin's comedy gold........it was a bit like mr bean
This show was truly a childhood
the best scene is when he drops his keys in the coffin
four 90 degree angles!!!

Monk is so wonderful. Now I´m hungry. But where do I find a square tomato? ;-)
I think this was the best episode of this brilliant series. "Mr Monk on wheels", it was called (?).
Btw, I was always bothered by the overlaps... the pieces of the tomato I put in my sandwich NEVER FITS THE FUCKING BREAD SIZE! ARGH!
Its one of those things a lot of people don't realize bothers them until someone points it out. Stuff that don't fit in the rest of the sandwich bugs me a little too. I actually turn the sandwich around and bit off the extra, with those I wouldn't have to.

But circles are infinitely symmetrical. Squares only have four symmetries.
Have you ever seen a perfectly spherical tomato?
But it won't make a symmetrical sandwich, because slices are all of different diameters. With a square tomato the sandwich only needs one slice since that reaches all 4 corners.
