  • How to hand load a Coatesman's double roller speargun. The speargun used in this tutorial is a Custom 130 CDR3🎯Step-Up using: 80cm 14mm bands & 7.5mm 1.7m shaft.
    this means that each 14mm band has a load of 16kg on the muzzle and 35kg loaded on the notch.
    Loading rollerguns requires a specific technique to pull the bands off the muzzle. Here Chris shows his methode he uses to load longer rollerguns.

      Yes both 14 & 16mm
      But you will need a cuttlefish barrel to carry the 8mm shaft and extra weights needed to handle the 16mm

    Can you explain why a traditional shark fin shaft with 1 large sharkfin to hold both wishbones would not work with this gun?

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před rokem +1

      Hey Never Lucky,
      Ha Ha, my chest is fine :-)
      The RA handle is designed to fit into your chest. Pretty much the only gun I can do this with.
      On the question of the shark fin, and both bridles on one fin. This will work no problem at all. And as long as the shark fins are not higher than the muzzle rails you can split them on two fins no problem.
      I have found that the notches work best tho, and is so easy there is really no need to go to fins.

    hello Chris,
    how does a mono roller vs double roller compare in terms or range? does it increase range? or only power?

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před 5 měsíci

      They are very similar in speed / power and range if they are using the same shaft. The limiting factor is the rubbers snap back velocity so there is the same max speed both guns will drive the shaft.
      The difference is in ease of loading

    Hi Chris, what’s the benefit of using a carbon barrel on such long gun, if I remember well, rollers don’t have to fight barrel warping as much as traditional ones.
    Great videos, keep them coming!

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před rokem

      Hey Dustsnow666 The buoyancy of the barrel allows for ballast to balance the gun so that it is neutral in the water. This is helpful in many areas, from handling to having to swim the weight of the gun from the depths.

    The light came on??? I asked about using 1 band on a dual band roller. I'm thinking remove 1 band instead of keeping both on?
    Also, mako 110 roller aluminum vs rob allen 110 toller carbon. The mako comes with a float attachment, does the rob allen 110 roller carbon require a float?

      Snow Bank,
      I do have a few clients that sometimes use just one band. And in certain situations works fine.
      I can speak for the Mako, but the RA 110 carbon roller is a good gun.
      Have you seen czcams.com/video/yVkuk0d3-ug/video.html

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před rokem +1

      with the double roller you use 14mm bands which you can easily load without a load assist and get more power than just a single 16mm.

    Hey Chris, I'm wondering if a 120 double roller with more pretension/shorter rubbers outperform the 130 double roller as setup in this vid. Trying to work out what the best option would be as far as ease of loading and max power and range.

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před rokem +1

      Fish Hunter. On a 120 if you used 65cm 14mm bands with a load assist you would have more power. In reality tho this 130 with 80cm 14mms is fairly easy to load in the water, and shoots really really well. @williampescasub who as I am sure you have seen shoots the crap out of wahoo and doggies. He uses a 130 CDR3 with 85cm bands. Sometimes longer !!

    Chris,
    I enjoy your videos, especially on roller set up. Any tips on retaining slip tip cable or spectra for use in double or single roller set ups?
    I usually use small rubber bands on the shafts, but wondering if you had an alternative you suggested.

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před rokem +2

      Hey Michael,
      On the slip tips with cable on shafts that have shark fins. I get a long rubber band, choke it around the stopper ball on the cable and pull back the band to the shark fin. This works well with the big guns.
      On the drop barbs I have been experimenting with pulling the line underneath the muzzle and wrapping the shooting line over it at the muzzle eye. Still need to film this to see nothing else is going on. But that could be the solution.

      @@CoatesmansSpearfishing cheers Chris, i will try that rubber band trick. i have routed my spectra slip tips the way you describe for drop barbs, it seems to work pretty well. i would be interested to see what your video shows. Honestly, i do my best to avoid using slip tips, but they don't have a role in certain situations.

    • @CoatesmansSpearfishing
      @CoatesmansSpearfishing  Před rokem +1

      Hey Stan, it is almost 110cm
      The easiest way to work out rubber lengths on rollers is half the barrel +5cm
      On a 110 use 60cm bands for both 14mm and 16mm.
      14mm shoots a 7mm shaft and you can hand load
      16mm shoots a 7.5mm shaft and you will need a load assist.
