The best way I've heard someone describe Sabaton's music is "It's pro-soldier but anti-war".
Pretty much the polar opposite of...for example the US of A.
Exactly !!
Esa Edvik well, many vets have become anti war
@@esaedvik You clearly have met incredibly few veterans.
No, Sabaton aren't Nazi supporters. They are only presenting the unit's story, not the politics behind it.
One thing a lot of people miss is that Sabaton support the soldiers while decrying those who make the decisions to need them.
the 7.panzer division was only a wehrmacht group, not
a ss (nazi) group. so this song is no about nazi is some way
@@TheTaker88 True. The words are nazi plans, so have nothing to do with the troops in this case.
"war knows no nation"
@@TheTaker88 Wehrmacht took part in Atrocities and Rommel was aware of it but there was nothing he could do about it.
This song is about the 7th Panzer Div. invading France. They moved so fast, that for large parts of the campaign, neither friend nor foe knew where they were. They actually lost communications with General Rommel, because they moved so damn fast.
Sabaton aren't political. They write songs based on the events/people themselves. The 7th Panzer Div. was under the command of Rommel, who was not a member of the nazi party. But, he was following Hitler's orders when he and the Ghost Division invaded France. So yes, at that time, they were serving the nazi plan.
Now check out "To Hell and Back" and "Screaming Eagles" when you get the chance. To Hell and Back is about Audie Murphy, and Screaming Eagles is about the 101st Airborne at the Siege of Bastogne.
I've heard it argued that "Rise of Evil" about Hitler's rise to power, is political, but as far as I'm concerned, it's about the rise of evil. It's definitely anti-nazi. Also, they did a straight up DISS TRACK against terrorists called "In the Name of God"
Sure they are political, but clearly anti-nazi. "Wehrmacht" is heavily political too.
Rommel wasn't a general yet. It's his feats leading the 7th Panzer division that earned him the promotion to general.
@@6th_Army didn't he actually become fieldmarshal for that? Or was that in Africa
@@auron2699 It could be. I just know that his feats in France was the reason his promotion was even thought of.
Or Rommel just did not want to get Guderian angry at him again because he is stopping :p
Actually you can check out 'Sabaton history' where it tells you about the song and all that
This is probably the best comment and direction for this reaction video... History should be told as it was... removing or sanitizing history only allows people to blindly repeat it...
@@MohJam I agree that!
@@MohJam This reminds me of what Pär said in an interview a while ago. He's a very wise man.
@Constandache Andrei : They did it a few weeks ago
Only Sabaton can play a show in Poland and have the crowd sing along to a song about the German army. Check out To hell and back or 82nd all the way. Two songs about American soldiers
So is The lost Battalion, Devil Dogs, Screaming Eagles, and others that I can't think about at the moment
Not to mention It's literally about a Unit that INVADED poland
@@trollofduty007 but the song is about them invading french xF
@@bastik.3011 yep and it's the first song they played when i went to see them in france :D
@@valyuno1356 they always start with Ghost Division xD
The 'ghost division' was the 7th Wehrmacht armored division, so not Nazis. They were still under the command of Hitler, serving his invasion plans, though. But they were led by Erwin Rommel, a very famous and *very* well respected Wehrmacht commander. And when I say 'well respected', I mean it - even the allies had great respect for him as a man and as a general. In fact, he was so anti-Nazi that he was involved in a plot to kill Hitler, but was found out and Hitler basically forced him to commit suicide under threat of his family's safety.
His division was called 'Ghost Division' because they were so successful at taking land that neither the allies nor German high command really knew where his division was.
^^ This. 110%.
It makes me damn near cry when there are metal fans who know world history, and know about men like Rommel.
Though, Rommel was not the general in charge of 7th Panzer -- Guderian was. Other than that, spot-on with the info regarding both Rommel and Ghost Division.
And 7th Panzer was so feared in battle, they were never directly confronted until after D-Day (though I'm unsure if 7th Panzer served in the Eastern Front or not).
Had it not been for Guderian stopping three days' march from Dunkirk, the Germans could have forced the surrender of the British AEF -- but because Guderian was running low on fuel, he had to stop and get resupplied, which led to the drama that happened at Dunkirk, where 338,000 British soldiers were rescued by everything from transports to fishing boats.
Lol all german army were nazis more or less so to not to call wehrmacht nazis is ridiculous they literally swore themselves to Adolf Hitler when they enlisted. Thats not the point here nationalsocialism isnt evil but some people in circle of power were. This rippled down through command the more the war drag on and situation became more desperate then fanatism took hold. Wehrmacht means defense force basically and are the traditional german army.
@@isaiahwelch8066 Perfect! Not all Metalheads are drunk ignorants :D Good taste in music runs through all all social, educational, racial and whatever classes ;) It's important to know History. And Sabaton does great work there, also with their second channel. "Celui qui se moque du passé n'est pas pas digne du futur." Those who mock the past are not worthy of the future.
@@isaiahwelch8066 I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of other fans of Sabaton who were inspired to learn about these events and from men which are maybe not as well known by the mayority such as Rommel just from listening to their songs... like me.
@@peo4989 Even conscripts were forced to swear undying alligeance to Hitler, people who were forced into service, not all Wehrmacht soldiers supported Hilter, hell even some of his party supporters weren't for the anti-semetism, grouping all the Wehrmacht as Nazi supporters is the same as grouping all Red Army soldiers as supporters of Stalin's mad policies
When poles and french people scream to gost divison anywone can
And this song is the beginning of the concert! They maintain that level of energy throughout their entire show!
You really must do their Night Witches, it has the same type of energy.
Same energy? The song is about women bomber groups who flew in on rage and the biggest dick energy of any war in planes that would burst into flames if you sneezed at it too hard.
XMorbidReignX I think he meant the energy and flow of the song, not the people in the song
XMorbidReignX although the night witches had more energy as soldiers
None of the Sabatons songs promote the ideology, it is about the history, it is about the soldiers that sacrifice, don't worry about "nazi" that ideology is not fit to be remembered any further than to make sure it doesn't happen again, and now a days it is over and improperly used to stifle more traditional opinions by people who know next to nothing about who nazis were and what they believed in, the irony is they don't even realize how similar their political views are. In sort just ignore the ideology, Some of Sabatons songs DO touch upon what the NAZI did, as that does deserve for be remembered songs such as "The final solution" czcams.com/video/96HtY9XJSMA/video.html, "Rise of Evil" czcams.com/video/CAEyeB1wQ4c/video.html Or Wehrmachts czcams.com/video/uUCPSbXh8Rk/video.html these songs are a epitaph.
Listen to this man!
Don't forget to mention "Smoking Snakes"
Yeah after the definition of Nazi, also people like trump can be called Nazi
You should definitely try listen to their Winged Hussars!
YES
Sabaton sings about exemplary military actions and accomplishments as much as they do the costly nature of warfare in general regardless of who's side it took place amidst.
I honestly couldn't put this any other way.
Only thing I can add is
They open there concerts with Ghost Division.
Saw them in Vancouver (2017) and Montreal (2019) Canada.
40:1 since it is a song about the Polish army performed in Poland.
Ghost division is the greatest "go for a run" song
The Price of a Mile from the same show is EPIC
Ghost division is the most energy heavy power metal song I've ever heard, I usually think songs have to have slower and softer parts to make the powerful parts stand out, not ghost division, it for some reason manages to go 100%, 100% of the time, without it losing impact.
Most of the Sabaton concerts I've gone to they start with this one and it just immediately throws the crowd into full frenzy.
I was on this concert, was very friendly and respectful. Best festival on Europe.
Awww hell yeah!!! Please do 'The Red Barron' or 'Resist and Bite' next. Love your stuff!!
Resist and bite ftw.
Sabaton is touring North America this month and November. If they are near you, GO! I have seen them either 4 or 5 times and they are fantastic every single time!
Blind Guardian- Wheel of Time
Blind Guardian- and then there was silence
Gammaray- Armageddon
Gloryhammer- Epic rage of furious thunder
I recommend you check out Sabaton's No Bullets Fly. It's an amazing story of two pilots on the opposite sides of WW2, one sparing the other from a certain death by escorting him to safety despite them being enemies.
legit the BEST meaning af all their songs. there is songs that in my opinion are better then "no bullets fly" but the meaning behind the song on the other hand...No bullets fly is the nr 1, so heartwarming and Beautiful.
Ok now get on, "The Lion from the north" from that same concert
Carolus Rex is a fantastic album, I'm partial to the swedish versions of the songs but they are good either way
Was at their Denver, CO concert this past Wednesday and they opened with Ghost Division. God damn what a way to get the crowd pumped.
The festival is 1 hour from Berlin on river oder on polish side. It is a charity Festival for children's hospitals and a big thank you for young people supporting charity in Poland. No tickets, it's is free. Always 1 August weekend.
If they come anywhere between 300-500nmiles where your at I'm telling you you HAVE to go see this band!!! My son and I drove from Northwest Florida to St. Petersburg at least 6-7 hours to get there. But ABSOLUTLY worth it. AMAZING! It was the singers birthday Oct. 5 the band gave him a cake that could have set the place on fire AND a pink tiara which he performed in. Great sense of humor. Met some wonderful people from there plan to do it again hopefully soon.
That they get half a million people in Poland of all places to cheer for a song that yes, does talk about a division of German soldiers in WW2, is a hell of a statement in people's ability to (sometimes) see the people being the uniforms.
sabaton is SO good that you can react to any song and it will be amazing
1:39 the face of "my brain cant figure out what it is hearing halp"
Sabaton writes songs about battles, wars, Soldiers, and Heroes. They've made songs specifically about Hitler, about the Holocaust and many other things. They are by no means Pro war (See Cliffs of Gallipoli, A lifetime of war/In livstid i Krieg) they sing about the history
Sabaton is awesome! Seen them live once and the damn best show I've seen behind rammstein! Live! The energy and hype is real!
I recommend you react to one of their latest live performances at Wacken 2019, where they played the song Swedish Pagans accompanied by famous cello player Tina Guo.
The 7Th Panzer Division was lead by The Erwin Rommel who would go on to become the Desert Fox. The Nickname of Ghost Division was given because the 7th moved so quickly that they were never where they were suppose to be and would appear almost out of nowhere.
Check out Van Canto feat Sabaton, doing an acapella version with of Primo Victoria. Van Canto is an acapella metal band!
Love it!
PageMonster They deserve more reactions.
*Cough* feat Joakim *Cough*
The "Ghost Division" Was the Elite German unit that broke through the Maginot line and encircled the entire British expeditionary army sent to France, thus leading to the fall of France in just 6 weeks of the war.
The war had also been going on for 10 months at this point not 6 weeks
@michal nemet I dunno what he meant for sure I just corrected what he said, and while what you say is held by some as true the historical consensus is that the 2nd Sino-Japanese war was ostensibly a separate conflict from the German one until the Japanese adoption of their Nanshin-Ron doctrine in 1941 well after the fall of France
@michal nemet I mean apart from the German and Soviet Volunteer forces I think it might be a task to claim that the Spanish civil war was the outbreak of ww2, at most it was a testing ground for the new German and Russian tanks
@michal nemet you are absolutely right, it was a prelude to the later conflict. But claiming the Spanish civil war was the outbreak of ww2 is tantamount to suggesting ww3 has already broken out due to countless similar proxy conflicts from the Korean civil war to the Syrian
@@migglesism michal nemet The fuck was I drinking when I wrote this?
I am so excited! I think I'm going to see them play live on October 11th, at The Wiltern in LA. My fingers are crossed that I get to go!!
Sabaton almost always open whit Ghost Division, it never stop being epic, the crowd always get pumped!
i once read a little piece and sabaton said...a true soldier does not hate what is in front of him...its what he loves behind him...now that to me is very moving...be safe guys
They opened with this in St Petersburg, FL on the American tour in October. It was absolutely NUTS!!!! GHOST DIVISION!!!
friend, I recommend the shiroyama song of sabaton. that song is spectacular
its still amazing how a crowd in poland becomes nuts on a song about a german Panzerdivision during the Blitzkrieg :P
You are awesome Mr. Rock N Roll! Keep the Sabaton songs coming! Carolus Rex, Night Witches, Sparta, Devil Dogs, The Last Battle.
Also, it's not about Nazis, it's about the Wehrmacht. Sabaton also dont care what people think and i respect them for it.
#SWEDEN #SABATON
My man fucken died for a while listening to this song
I really need to go to a sabaton concert
This song is about a german tank division during the ww2 that wasknown as ghost division.
The story is that they moved so fast that even the main comanders would lose them during attacks. They were famous for moveing over night to get to new stageing areas so the allies would think they were in one place and in the morning would find them attacking a totally diffrent region.
Never have I seen someone so into Sabaton
I found your channel because of Sabaton... Watched everyone of them so far. I don't even care which song you do next, just keep the Sabaton rolling bro!
This video pretty much sums up my reaction first time I heard Ghost division.... Still one of my all time favourite songs across all genres!
The song Inmate 4859 was my introduction to Sabaton and I had the same reaction you had when they sang 'Nazi' just with 'Auschwitz'.
The way I see it, Sabaton is just like Blind Guardian.... modern day bards. They will sing about history regardless of whose side the song is about. It's just historic facts put to incredible music. Enjoy the music and keep rocking man
they still go that hard in concert too - I am going to see them in 6 days in cleveland. I am hype as fuck
It's true history. And it kicks ass
There where 600.000 people on that concert👌you should watch the entire show in one go😁
The 7th Panzer Army was a divsion that is known for taking over 200 miles in a day. they moved so damn fast in their campaign, even lost communications with Panzer Commander Erwin Rommel while reaching the Belgian Meuse. In a different song, it is described how hitler sent the 7th Panzer Army maybe with Rommel into the desert, and they went all tanks blazing, they earned the name desert fox, but most were destroyed during the downfall, D-Day, and the North Africa Campaign.
Universal respect for all soldiers, from Wehrmacht to IDF, that's the Sabaton way. Shalom aleichem, Achim.
I am a simple man, I see sabaton, I click and share 😍 Get the divine music out to everyone!
This Live Concert was amazing! There is a video on CZcams where at the end of the live, the concertgoers start singing the Polish National Anthem off-key. The concert MC comes on stage and puts them in tempo, and the crowds starts yelling the Anthem at the band in their appreciation. (the concert was in Poland, which is why he says Dziekuje barlzo, Polska = Thank you, Poland).
Please watch Last Dying Breath live in Belgrade. They include the major's last speech in the live version and the crowd yells the ending of ZIVIO KRAJ! ZIVIO BEOGRAD! just as the band comes out and its so awesome hearing them play in Serbia.
As a testament to how politically neutral Sabaton are, realise that this is a song about a German tank group, being played to a Polish audience... and they are loving it.
If I tried this, I think i'd manage running onto the stage, belting out a couple of lines (Probably just "WOODSTOCK!!!") And then would proceed to faceplant from exhaustion. I have no idea how they keep up the energy that they do through a whole set - such amazing talent
Rumor has it the sound engineer got executed that night.
700.000 thousand in the audience that night👍
Floor Jansen's husband is the current drummer for this band. He joined in 2014. I don't think they are Nazi supporters only sympathetic towards all soldiers who sacrificed for their homelands. The Ghost division was the nickname for Rommel's 7th Panzer division. They moved so quickly thus the nickname.
Fast as the wind, the invasion has begun
Shaking the ground with the force of thousand guns
First in the line of fire, first into hostile land
Tanks leading the way, leading the way
Charging the lines with the force of a furious storm
Fast as the lighting phantoms swarm
200 miles at nightfall, taken within a day
Thus earning their name, earning the fame
They are the panzer elite, born to compete, never retreat (ghost division)
Leaving or dead, always ahead, fed by your dread
Always ahead, as the blitzkrieg rages on
Breaking morale the with the sound of blazing guns
First in the line of fire, first into hostile land
Tanks leading the way, leading the way
Leaving a trail of destruction to a foreign land
(Waging war with conviction)
Massive assault…
Sabaton teach history through their music.
its about a german panzer division , they did move so quickly that allay's and the german high commanders did not know the place this division where on battle ground.
the ghost division one of the few things you can be proud of as a German
You should see sabaton - uprising live the same concert - this od crazy!!
5:18 He said: Thank you very much Poland
lets do it
Who needs coke when you have Sabaton!!!🤘
One thing to know about Sabaton is that they are only telling you the history of something. Which means that they aren't Nazis, fascists, communists you name it. Think of that when you hear songs that are about the Nazis like ´´Rise of Evil´´ or even this song.
Also, I think he know by now that Floor Jensen is Hannes Van Dahls wife, but the drummer that played in Woodstock back in 2012 is not Hannes. It's a guy named Robban.
always a pleasure to see people react to the headbanging
Sabaton themselves have said that they keep politics out of their music, word for word, "We're musicians, what do we know?". And they are definitely not Nazi's😂Like myself, they just love history, they don't care what side you're on, all have made sacrifices and they don't want anyone to be forgotten
Well said!
I think the Ghost division were in the 7th panzer army. They led the blitzkrieg thru France and Belgium at the start of WW2. They were Germans not Nazis.
They were the 7th Panzerdivision lead by Erwin Rommel
After 80 years, Ghost Division still killed someone.
Sabaton, Powerwolf, Gloryhammer, the next big three
...
This song hits harder than the 7th panzer devision (later called Ghost devion) hit france
YES YES YES
There are lot of people there because Woodstock Poland is free to attend afaik.
If you ever want to know the story behind the music, go to the band's website, sabaton.net, and they have the lyrics to all of their songs posted there with each song's historical reference on the lyric page.
80,000+in the crowd of polish people
This song was the forst song i every like REALLY head banged to
And this is in Poland were crowd is going crazy about a Whermacht division
Old, but still amazing...and 550000 audience...
Try watching 'Sabaton History'. A series of episodes explaining the history behind each of their songs. Very interesting.
See the thing is, while the orders coming from the higher ups were Nazi orders (Even the Ghost Division's General Rommel ultimately gave orders for the Nazis), the key thing to remember is that the German soldiers on the front lines, the guys in the tanks and the infantry and the seamen and so on, were no more evil than the American or British or Russian soldiers. They were just men serving their country, and to blame them for the Nazi party's atrocities is unreasonable.
The Ghost Division did something remarkable, moving their tank battalion at seemingly impossible speeds around Europe, essentially personifying the Blitzkrieg, by appearing in force so far into enemy territory that it disrupts any chance they had at defending that territory. Sabaton makes a point of remarking on remarkable things. As they said in the video for Bismark, "war knows no nation."
Also, this isn't woodstock USA, this is woodstock Poland.
GHOST DIVISION!
and again sabaton have aso a history chanel where you can get a history lesson btw. it should be in the description of sabaton in any of there videos
and greetings from germany
I love the german army of World war2 and and i love the Sabaton interpretation, finally amazing, i want that Sabaton make a lot of this song about Wehrmacht or Luftwaffe the best army of their time
Night Witches, Night Witches, Night Witches
after 3 videos we have a new sabaton-fan \,,/ welcome bro
joakim starts singing
his legs:man please no
More sabaton 👍🤟
Check out Sabaton history. It talks about the history of the events the song us about. Then how the song came about.
Shiroyama and To Hell and Back are great songs by sabaton as well, you should do them.
Sabaton basically tells the events of history they don't censor anything & they don't support any side in their songs,They tell the story how it happened.
The Ghost Division was General Erwin Rommel's 7th Panzer(Tank) Division during the invasion of france in 1940.They moved so quickly through enemy territory & took so much territory so quickly that even The Germans lost track of where they were at times & they moved so swiftly behind french lines that the Ghost division became a boogey man for the French Divisions. Thus they earned the name Ghost Division because they would pop up one place & disappear & pop up again somewhere else.Their songs aren't political it's just a historic fact that the german army was controlled by the ruling Nazi Party under Hitler but not all German soldiers were nazi's,also Rommel's division wasn't a Nazi division just a important distinction to say as well.
Awesome reaction. I love this song in particular because to me it's like a shot of concentrated energy drink and fills me with energy no matter what.
You should also check out Uprising and Art of War from the same show.
9 days, get to see them in Denver.
Oh fuck I forgot to buy tickets
Sabaton!
Please check out: Heilung - Krigsaldr and Wardruna - Helvegen (Both original and cover by Kalandra).
"Ghost Division" is about the German 7th Panzer division under the command of Gen. Erwin Rommel during the German invasion of France. The unit earned the moniker of "Ghost Division" because their hit and run tactics and them out pacing even their own supply lines.
oooo yeah
