My grandmother lived at 7th St and Hamilton Ave; we lived in Avon Lake. A special night out was to eat at Heilmans on a Friday night or, go to the Fish Fry at the Lorain Yacht Club on the other side of the drawbridge from Heilmans. My Dad was a VW dealer and our showroom / business was on Colorado Ave. The McDonalds shown at 2:14 was the first McDonalds I ever went to. It was within walking distance from our first VW Dealership. right next to Sy Beckers (Buick?). I remember one of our mechanics started a VW while it was in gear and it went right through the showroom window of Beckers showroom. He wasn't too happy about that. Mechanic said "What kind of dumb-ass parks a car in gear?" This would have been...... 1962 or so. We got our milke delivered from Lorain Creamery, they came "all the way out to Avon Lake." I remember as a wee lad, they delivered milk in a horse drawn wagon of sorts to my grandmother. It was just a short skip and a jump down Oberlin Ave from the Creamery and my grandmothers house on 7th street. Glad you got O'Neils! Last time I was up home, the Castle had gone Mexican. Farohs candy on 21st st was THE BEST!!!! We kept our boat at Vermilion Power Boats who shared a parking lot with McGarveys. When you went in the door, they had marks on the wall with dates next to them to record the high water point in the restaurant when the Vermilion River flooded. We bought our TV (B&W) from Ilg's in Avon Lake and it came with us to this damn Virginia in 1970. No color TV till about 1971. Who can forget the feud between Goulardi and Dorothy Fuldheim? You got a shot of channel 5's Captain Penny with Jungle Larry at 5:49.

Yes, some of the renown bakeries in Lorain County are featured as well with the title soundtrack “Baker Street” by Gerry Rafferty. Those that enjoy the history of Elyria, Lorain, Amherst, North Ridgeville, Grafton, Avon Lake Vermilion, Oberlin and Wellington and the surrounding areas will enjoy this video and photo collection. Some favorite places featured are Midway Mall, Cascade Park, Broad St. in Elyria, Broadway in Lorain. Many will recall Uncle Vics, Spanky’s, McGarveys, LCCC, and Aqua Marine Resort
