  • This is a comparison video between the two streaming services. I've used Amazon Music HD for the last 6 months, and Spotify for much longer.

    This is crazy...
The difference between Spotify and Amazon Ultra HD is HUGE...
    320kbps vs 3400kbps
The difference is big even in my Subaru car over Bluetooth, just the difference in detail is amazing.
On my home hifi systems it's like listening to a different song.

Yeah, I thought the difference was pretty huge, too. My Amazon Music trial ran out and I hopped back into Spotify the next time I was driving and played the same music I had been listening to.. Yelawolf in this instance. And I was like "dang.. it does make a difference." That's just a car with stock speakers. A Buick Park Avenue lol. I guess it has a "premium" audio set up for a factory car, but ya know, I wouldn't call it premium. But I honestly can tell a difference. This is all going from my phone through a bluetooth FM transmitter, too. 24-bit 48khz and above songs on a phone that supports it and a bluetooth receiver and transmitter that supports it.. which doesn't take anything super special, really. I need to test an aux cable out.
Gotta have that Ultra HD from Amazon. It spoiled me.

@@JustAGuy85 I agree %100, but fyi, Bluetooth is not high rez, you should go wired.

@@thomasward00 Yeah, I want to try my aux cable out with Amazon Unlimited but it's a convenience thing. I work from my car and am in and out of my car 5-6 times an hour. I'm already having to plug my USB cable back in for charging every time.
But, still, I definitely intend on trying it out. If it's something I can notice substantially, I may just deal with the extra wire to plug/unplug all the time lol.
I've been curious how it will work out.. I'll wrap this up here lol. Because my phone is old, it's a Galaxy S7 edge. So, I wonder how the Bluetooth codec used compares to the DAC my phone has (which I have no idea about) using the aux port.
Yeah, I'll try this out for sure tomorrow.
Edit: To beat it all, the car has the factory radio in it. So, I'm using a bluetooth to FM transmitter.
Come to think of it.. I'll still be using the FM transmitter if I use an aux cable. At the very least, it will be a fair comparison. I need to throw a new stereo in it, I guess. They always make the speakers sound better on their own.
Oh, final thing, the Amazon Music app, as you've probably seen, does show the music format playing, what the device supports (phone or computer, I've used the app on both) and then what the bluetooth supports. Seems my phone is good up until 24-bit/48000hz.
However, I realize there's a good chance it's being compressed heavily using whichever codec it's using.. dang, I can't remember. AAC maybe. AAC or SBC. I can change it in developer options but it never works and always goes back to the default one. I'm pretty sure it's AAC.
I wish I could monitor the bluetooth's transmit and receive rate. That'd kinda give me an idea of exactly how much compression is going on... although it's nothing clear.

HD and Ultra on a fair to good Hi-Fi system really does imho, create more of an emotional connect with the artists' performance.
Soundstage, depth of field and many other metrics are more fully realised as more data (depending on the master) is available for the provision of a reproducible presence.
Just to enjoy this enhanced realism helps me to revisit places of musical sanctuary in a new way. I still luv the tactility of vinyl, but there is a lot of fun to be got from HD.

Spotify Premium isn't lossless so it's an instant loss

Listen yeah, to be honest, this is why it isn't that good to Listen to other people's reviews because sometimes they talk rubbish, how can this guy say there isn't a noticeable difference between Spotify & Amazon, there is, I've been listening to Spotify for the past 3 months and subscribed to amazon, I played my favourite track that I normally play with Spotify, sir the difference was absolute, amazon was deeper, clearer, the bass was richer and deeper in fact I don't think I could Listen to Spotify after hearing the first song and if everything else is similar, I don't think I can Listen to Spotify again amazon was that good and superior.

Did u put highest quality in the spotify setting?

  • @MrDunk66
    @MrDunk66 Před 2 lety +1

Simple quality test: play CD on your system under conditions you want to listen under (ambient noise, audiophile quiet). Compare it to the same music streamed at lower quality (eg Spotify OV) to the same system! Use streaming trial subscriptions and make your choice. Quality is in the brain of the listener, a bit like beauty, and we know how that differs between individuals 😀

I just closed my Apple Music and Spotify subs and moved to Amazon Music HD as I am a Prime subscriber.
Apple overreacting as when I tried to install the Amazon app on my old MacBook it refused to install claiming the app would cause damage. It works great on my Windows notebook.

One thing I can for sure hear is the high pitch ringing in the background of this video

nice review. we have Prime, thinking about using Ultra HD via my Amazon Echo Lync (connected by LAN), which goes straight into a DAC, and then fiber optically into my Stereo Preamp. I hope to be able to hear the difference in my speakers. The only wifi or bluetooth part of that system will be the voice commands telling the Lync what music to access and play - like a voice remote control and then everything else is hard-wired. That's the plan at least.

I like the video. Wise observations.
Can only add the for those who wants best and 2% here and 5% there makes the sum. Audio is hobby and they have gear for. Yes go for it.
For majority of population 128kbs is enough.

No since In having Spotify premium as a Amazon prime member . Free shipping and Free music . Having a great quality cellphone or Tablet even a good computer can make a big difference in leasing to good sound music. I have iPad 11 pro and iPhone 13 pro max . My husband has Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra . It sounds great .

Got a good DAC and great headphones? Then the Amazon UHD package, price can't be beat! For everyone else Spotify gives a great user experience.

I feel weird. I stream through laptop set to 24/96000 through nad2 dac to SONY receiver and 3 way floor standing speakers and 2 subs and feel that Spotify premium sounds fuller and way more open than Amazon HD. Not sure what is going on, but I stay with Spotify eith its interface hands down better.
