Those people they interviewed were idiots. The mall shouldn't come down- it reminds people that people lived here before they did. Some of us are from here you know?

City of Phoenix is GONE! It has long been. It's not even worth a struggle there anymore. There's literally no life of leisurely activity there unlike it was in the early to 2008 Phoenix. Even the damn MUSIC doesn't reflect the local people taste. There's nothing expressive of Phoenix in Phoenix anymore. The city is getting a lot of New Yorkers and the music played now is more for them. They promote NaS, Lauren Hill, Wu Tang instead of music like locals enjoy like Halsey, Daddy Yankee, Bobby Valentino and Lil' Wayne which greatly hurt the local Arizona vibe. Arizonans don't vibe with the radio garbage. Plus, the plans for Metrocenter Mall at 1:08 where the city's ORIGINAL plan for DOWNTOWN PHOENIX anyway. Plus, Phoenix has lost three mall. Two outdoor malls Metrocenter Mall and Paradise Valley Mall and one outdoor mall The Arizona Center which was sold for $25 Million which was largely an abandoned center anyway. It also shows that converting Metrocenter to an outdoor mall WON'T SAVE IT. It's the entire city, not just the Metrocenter Mall that need redevelopment.

SMH… These modern day developers & real estate firms really make me sick… Why not “reimagine” it by keeping the existing building (which obviously still stands), doing some internal AND external renovations (ADDING to the existing building, if anything), doing some actual research on what types of vendors & attractions can/will draw a crowd these days (vs the 70s-early 2000s) & using that data as a blueprint for what will allow the “reimagined” Metrocenter Mall to successfully live on? SURELY it would be better for the environment (vs completely tearing it down & building something from scratch), plus you’re respecting the few actual natives who still live in this city, who actually grew up in that mall & who have MANY strong memories in that mall (YES I’m one of the few & was born right up the street, so it’s personal for me [contrary to the people who were being interviewed]).
So frustrating to see money & greed killing off so much of Phoenix’s history. Left & right, all you see is history being demolished, over & over… You’ll renovate a basketball arena or a stadium, but that church, that High School or that Shopping Mall??? NOPE, it’s outdated, it’s gotta go… All anybody wants to do these days is kick people out of their homes/etc. & tear down historical buildings/landmarks so they can build overpriced/cheaply-built apartments with paper-thin walls & poorly-designed parking garages with microscopic parking spaces that only the smallest compact cars can fit in w/o dinging up their door &/or scratching up their bumper. Tired of it. Somebody will surely say something slick about the clientele/neighborhood/etc. in response, but if Scottsdale Fashion Square, Arizona Mills Mall, Chandler Mall, Tempe Marketplace, Desert Ridge & all these other Shopping “Malls” (both outdoor AND INDOOR) can continue to thrive, then I absolutely cannot see why Metrocenter Mall can’t do the same following a simple renovation of the CURRENT building (which already has a Harkins Movie Theatre, AND a Walmart, AND a Brand-New Lightrail Station at its disposal)...
Some (primarily non-natives who truly have no business speaking on the topic) will deny this, but you have a select group of people who TRULY miss being able to walk into a store at that mall & actually get fitted for some clothing, or try on some sunglasses, or try on a pair of shoes, or test out an appliance, or play a piano, or put something on layaway, or smell a fragrance (vs buying online/sight unseen, HOPING that it’s what you want once it arrives in the mail); So many grown men & women are at a point where they miss the old shopping malls and even this next generation is craving them… How do I know this??? Every single time I walk into ANY one of those malls mentioned above, it is CROWDED with people of all ages (with mid-day often being the only exception as many people are obviously at work or school that time of day)… Sorry, but not ONE person (on Phoenix City Council or otherwise) can convince me that Metrocenter Mall could not be “reimagined” in its current format (avoiding a tear down) & brought back to its former glory (as far as SUCCESS) when I see all these other Shopping “malls” continuing to thrive in the way they have. There is literally NO reason why Metrocenter Mall cannot see the same success as the other remaining Shopping “malls” without completely tearing down the current building that holds so many memories for so many of us... But I digress, as I’m not the one with the deep pockets smh 🤦🏾‍♂️

Chase Bank, US Bank, One Camelback and more high rises vacant. The city is completely backwards. The plans they have for Metrocenter Mall the locals and native borns had for DOWNTOWN PHOENIX.

Still homeless but I remember living as well along the freeway by the super salad with a rug & blinds store with a cellphone store by Castle & Coasters!
I'm homeless again because of the GOODWIN fire so there's no help of any kind up in Prescott Valley except prayers and well wishes!
7 going on 8 years without a proper shower or bath!!! Getting discriminated against by Valley View Apts low income, because of the way I look so I can't catch a break, just lost my government cellphone services I guess for a congressman or Senator needs a new 2045 super yacht with submarines and 12 helicopter pads and a miniature golf course and a go kart track! And all I want is a second chance for a productive life and a hot soaking in a bath tub to wash all the BS away.
But no low income or cellphone services for SSI/SSDI recipients, just a can to be kicked down the street and into the gutter!
I have $$$ to spend but I can't find a reasonable capitalist to make affordable housing without also wanting the 2076 400 years anniversary of the United States commemorative special US Navy yacht!!!
So currently looking for long term and also wanting two a BATMAN/BRUCE WAYNE TYPE OF GRANT....???? So....
I was working my way to get off but I lost my seasonal job with Salvation Army as a Bell Ringer for the Red Bucket - 6 years and my buckets had some strange alternative currency stuffed into my buckets! So under MAGA-GOP Trump Führer I was in the SSA right to work programs for the disabled and then I was told for all 6 years that I was PERFECTLY FINE TO WORK AS A BELL RINGER because it was SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY & I WAS TOLD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY BACK ANYTHING... BUT I LOST ALL 6 YEARS OF PAY THROUGH THE SSA BS AND THEN I WAS TOLD THAT ANY DONATIONS THAT I GET - LIKE FOOD BOXES OR DONATED CLOTHES; I WOULD LOSE MY DISABILITY CHECK; MY ONLY INCOME & IT'S NOT ENOUGH BECAUSE I'M ON FOOD STAMPS AS WELL BUT FOOD IS WAY TO EXPENSIVE - AGAIN THAT AMERICAN CAPITALISM GREED!!!

@@gravekeepersven82 I'm a 4th generation native and am moving to Kentucky in the fall. Phoenix is a trash pile now. I've been on affordable senior housing lists for almost 3 years now who told me "1-2 years" without a single call so either people living there aren't dying or moving to assisted living, or the number of income-based apartments has been reduced. They need to build more affordable housing or put caps on the percentage landlords can jack up the rent each year. When an apartment goes from $700 to over $1K in a year, something is wrong.

@fatgrandmafinds I saw a video from tiktok where 75% of the properties in phoenix were being ran by a bunch of landlords using AI software to manipulate the rent prices to their favor. This ran from 2015-2023 until the Attorney General of AZ got wind of it and is suing them now.
