- Novak Djokovic took Wimbledon fans’ support of his opponent as boos, and ripped into them in an on-court interview over it.
In Monday’s Round of 16 Wimbledon match against Holger Rune, Djokovic, who swept the match 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, was convinced the spectators at Centre Court were booing him.
The Serbian tennis star immediately addressed it on the court during his post-match interview following the win.
“To all the fans that have respect and that stayed here tonight: Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate it. And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player - in this case, me - have a goooood night. Gooooood night. Gooooood night. Very gooooood night,” Djokovic said sarcastically, stretching out “good” to sound like “boo.”

Ahhh, I think he’s just a misunderstood the English crowd. The “Ruuuuune” was very similar to how English crowds cheer for the cricketer Joe Root, with a “Rooooot”. Given the names sound alike, they were just doing the same for Rune. It’s definitely not a backhand boo. Watch any clip of Root coming out to bat or scoring 50, 100 etc in England. You’ll hear the “Rooooot”, which to the uninitiated might sound like a boo.
He has worked more years than Holger Rune' s age.
What a hero he is. He stood up to the establishment and does not compromise his principles. The best tennis player. He inspires us to be strong.

I love Rune, but he's young and hasn't learned how to channel his temper properly to his benefit. And Djokavic has been at the top of the game so long he has earned the right to be respected by fans as well as players. I've never seen him loose his temper and be nasty to any player or ref. 🎉❤

And as a Dane I have great respect for Djoko and love to watch him play but off course I am going to root for my countryman when watching the two play against each other.
