How Graham can have a heart to heart with seemingly everyone on the planet is astonishing. The best interviewer in the world.
@@thefranchise2563 Thank you for your service.. I have no clue of Graham’s credentials as a journalist but he is a boring ass interviewer. The interviewee will go on a deep life story and he’ll just be like so how many concussions do you have?
I’m in pain everyday from a motorcycle accident. I’ve had ups n downs ever since. Been 8 years. I can tell you first hand being in pain all the time wears you down.
You are not alone, I feel for you. I have had my share of injuries. The pain is one thing but its that it just never goes away. It does wear on you. Hang in there.
Jeremy Fowler Look up Joe Dispenza you won’t regret it, give his meditation and learnings a shot, listen to his story if you haven’t! :)
Scott Gibson Look up Joe Dispenza you won’t regret it, give his meditation and learnings a shot, listen to his story if you haven’t! :)
I can add that chronic pain not only wears you down and affects mood, motivation, etc, others often have no clue what you’re experiencing and therefore draw the wrong conclusions on your behaviour.
As a person who’s dealt with chronic pain for many years, I have only a small window on what she’s been through. I wish her all the very best...
This lady is a badass. Getting injured is one thing continually come back is another.
Wow, and she's only 36. Imagine the kind of pain she'll have in 20-30 years when arthritis sets in. She truly sacrificed her body for her victories.
@Ricci HardowTHIS IS THE BEST COMMENT AND TRUTH BRILLIANT YOU HIT IT ON THE NAIL ALL IN A SENTANCE ..VERY GOOD YOUR CLEVER MAN ..
Every Olympic athlete has a future of steroid injections and replacement surgeries.
She probably already has osteoarthritis & obvious permanent muscular, nerve & skeletal damage
Most professional athletes do, from Bull riding, motocross, hockey, rugby, mma fighters.. its incredibly common
I'm 60. Ex-paratrooper, skydiver, football player, etc. My knee injuries are identical to hers, and one leg broken even more severely. (Fortunately I managed to avoid most of her UPPER body injuries!) Most days even getting out of bed is a very conscious and careful physical act, as is standing up from a chair, etc. I know it probably won't make a difference, but for you 20-somethings that are immortal (like we all were...); you might want to consider this video. Her journey will be difficult, and it has both physical and psychological impacts that are lifelong.
She chose this though. I mean it’s fascinating to watch how reckless she was so she could reach greatness. It’s amazing in a way
oh how I love her candidness and honesty. Let me tell you where you will be 20 years from now. I am 60 years old. I have been an extreme athlete all my life. In high school I was a gymnastics champion, then I moved on to motocross, became the women's national amateur motocross champion in 1980. I severly broke my left leg and had many crashes that began damaging my knees, tearing miniscus and cartilage. Then I became a aerobics champion winning the coors light national contest and was a finalist at the crystal light national championships and got my certification for teaching aerobics. In the years between motocross and aerobics, I surfed and skied. my love for skiing won out and moved to Tahoe in 1989 where I began to commit my life to the ski industry. I got all my certifications through PSIA and taught for years and that was what finished my knees off. small falls that seemingly felt not that big of a deal, tearing more miniscus, what was left in my knees. Pretty soon, I was bone on bone. my left knee was first. I had it replaced in 2010. it was a great success. Then my right knee was bone on bone. I had it replaced in 2016 and that was when my nightmare began. It got infected to the point I went septic. I have had 4 knee replacements on my right knee. I will never be the same athlete again. My life has been compromised. I guess I am lucky to be alive and that I have both my legs, but there are days that I miss being able to play and be the athlete that I used to be. I ride an e mountain bike and only ski groomers because I'm afraid of falling or having other people running into me. I know your world of pain. If I can give you any advice its this: you will know when your ready for knee replacements. You cannot live with the pain any longer and that is when you go get them replaced. once you go down that route, gear back on how hard you play. Take care of your knee replacements. that is the compromise. I have followed your career and truly admire you! take care of your body now.
I had my left knee replaced 13 years ago and after a scar tissue cleanout due to the prior surgeries, it's been terrific. I'm 64 now and recovering as we speak from having my right knee replaced. I'm so sorry to hear what you've gone through on your right knee. I too missed the sports I used to compete in, but after searching, I found rowing. It's low impact, great exercise, and allows me to compete. I wish you all the best.
What am I missing... artificial cartilage is still not an option? Seems it would be easier to make than an artificial heart, lung, limb, etc. and easier to implant than entire joint (knee, hip, whatever).
@@gr8dvd they do have some experimental grow-ur-own mesh versions, but nothing's really worked yet. This is an example of an instance where doing a NASA-like project would be a great idea. Way more beneficial to more people than another F-35, for example.
@@asajayunknown6290 Interesting yet still puzzling. I agree with your priorities.
@@gr8dvd I think the solution is a combination of personal DNA/raw material, combined with some stem cells, and an artificial, likely dissolvable, lattice. There are companies using personalized cancer treatments to good results. The same personalized solution is conceptually viable for other things like cartilage and spinal nerves.
She’s one tough lady. I’m impressed with her ability to get back on the horse time and time again.
Too bad she hit the wall though riding that c*** carousel too long. Now she has empty egg carton. Damaged goods. Granparent cry! 😭😭😢😭😭🤣😂🤣
Ms Vonn so sorry about the injuries! Prayers
This is an awesome interview.
Wauw, she went through so many injuries and come back stronger after that, very impressive, it's so hard to do.
Tremendous competitor and fiercest warrior. Salute!
So focused and tough. Impressive.
Lindsay that's the heart of an athlete and you're it. I just saw you on people TV don't ever be ashamed of your body you are a beautiful woman and a strong one. You're beautiful!
Love you interview s, get the knee replacement now is my advice. Being on pain killers for over 8 years ( was a professional sportsman in Australia) having my knee replacement was the best thing I have done, I’m back running( although not at when I was younger) I feel fantastic and knee replacements can last a lifetime
Love athletes like this just able to battle thru pain and injuries and sill win, why I love Kobe
I cracked my femoral head of my femur in highschool, playing football. Two years ago, at age 62, I finally had that hip replaced. I only waited about 45 years- in daily pain. So I "get" where Lindsey is coming from.
I wish more athletes would be honest like her. Sport looks glamorous, but it's not. It's torture.
One of a kind, a champion but what a price physically she paid for defying the limits. I just love the honesty, no ego there, even though a legend best of all time, still she is only human and there was a price to pay. Incredible honesty
Im a nurse who has foot problems from work and now I have to quit my job in order to have a healthy life. the future too
May I suggest checking in with Travis Pastrana. He seems happy all the time.
Lindsey is indeed a WARRIOR! ANYONE WHO HAS GONE THROUGH WHAT SHE HAS SHOULD BE BOTH RESPECTED AND ADMIRED! In my opinion, she is THE CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL!
What a ROCKSTAR!! Lindsey, you have made America so proud!!! We wish you the best always, you are a warrior of the hill!!
Stay strong Lindsay
Best wishes Miss Lindsey. Beautiful and tough as nails. 🇺🇸
Lindsey, I highly recommend knee replacement! I’m 57 and have had both of mine replaced. It is so remarkable that. The first time up on them I was pain free, besides the normal surgery pain. It was amazing!
Doctors’ advice as a "suggestion"... I thought elite athletes got sports docs who were different. Totally relatable.
I'm cringing in pain listening to this champion describe her numerous injuries. My daughter is in terrible, constant pain from something completely different: fibromyalgia perhaps (undiagnosed).
Nature of the beast. I think almost every elite downhill skier with a long career like Vonn, has had lots of crippling injuries. Best wishes to her!
*I'm in pain all the time*
every twelve year old..
"Omg same"
She’s a champion! 💯but her body has definitely taken its toll 🤯
Get well soon! God bless you!
Omg poor. Lindsey pain is so annoying you are amazing 🥰🥇⭐️
My heart goes out to her. However, she is strong and will handle it.
I admire the hell out of her! I have injured my knee and I won't take any unreasonable risks due to knowledge of what it takes to recover. For her to continue on with her career after intimately knowing the fortitude it takes to heal only to line up to risk it all over again, she's a mental super hero!
SHE ROCK's!
WISH YOU THE BEST CHAMPION
Wow, that's real talk. We don't hear the underside of sports enough from athletes who've been through it.
She is really tough. Just hope she is healthy when she starts having her children and being able to play with them.
This is when world athletes are most relatable because sports prowess does not cancel out the realities of how our bodies, and various physical challenges accumulated over time, age as we grow older. Hope she is able to manage her post-competition life in a way that helps her keep balance and be happy.
Wow!!
The body is incredible. It can take so much - but this woman is amazing ! To keep going ... I fell ONCE while skiing ... and I was traumatized enough and in pain for moths 😱
Lindsey is a brave girl. No doubt.
Tough as nails.
Good Lord. This blew my mind. I have been through hell but nothing like this.
She’s gonna need that warrior attitude when she gets older.
@@neuro3248
Good luck. They’re making it impossible for chronic pain patients to get pain meds nowadays. And it’s based on non-science.
She is so amazing God love her
Ski is more danger than people think, try jump out of you can at 40 mph and see how much it hurt. If you survive that then try again at 80 mph, that is the speed Lindsey fell at. 👍👍👍👍👍 for her!
From deep experience , there’s no Dr. that can ever put you back the way God made you
knee replacement was the best thing I've done with bone on bone situation.quick recovery, main thing - no pain, can't run,but running sucks, cycling is the way !
I walked on a tibia plateau fracture for a week no one believed me 14 stitches in my knee and told me nothing was broken , I knew they were wrong !
I shattered the radial head into more than 50 pieces in my elbow due to a cycling accident. Long story but I essentially hit a concrete wall head on doing about 35 mph. The doctor said he stopped counting the pieces at 50 & screwed the bone back together as best he could. When I saw him afterwards, he said I would be extremely lucky if I could straighten my arm & I would get minimal use from it.
I asked about doing rehab efforts on my part & said is it possible to get it back to normal & he said it is remotely possible but the pain would be too much to bear as it would take months at maximum effort.
Right about month 7-8 I had a post op visit & he broke out his protractor to see how much progress I had made in my rehab. His jaw dropped as I had not only completely straightened my arm but my use of it was over 80% (today I have 100% use of it & I don’t even notice any handicap with it). He asked me how I did it & I said I simply did what you said was possible & never even considered it to be impossible & used the pain as a positive sign & measuring device because it meant I was progressing
I’m a physical therapist and I can tell you that her attitude and rationale for the decisions that she made would be a nightmare. I would not want to be her PT
@Boner Growing Pains it depends. It never hurts to have a PT evaluate you and give you the assessment on what PT would do for you. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that you won’t get better if you slack off. PT requires consistent effort and compliance and that’s why it doesn’t work for some people
My Gpop got both his knees replaced (Climbed telephone poles for 20yrs). They can last 15yrs with no issue, including skiing. His one lasted 25yrs. The last 5yrs have been rough with the balance between risk of surgery at his age and QL. He just got 1 replaced again at age 87. Immediately had greater motion and walking better. I’d argue get a knew knee as soon as you can’t walk properly. No sense in damaging ankles / hips & loss of activity (healthy exercise) because of fear of knee surgery.
But I’m also not a doctor. In awe of her determination & skill, wish the best of luck to her.
The GOAT...82 WC victories.......note, the knee replacements are getting incredibly good and long lasting. The full knees are being viewed as 20-30 year hardware now, lots of factors though.
She was a great speed racer. Best position ever. Took turns in position others hardly took standing up. BUT she didnt race smart. She took to many risks in training or with big leads which resulted in crashes. Downhill isnt slalom. If you fall you will get hurt. And she crashed often with high speed. Hope she enjoys retirement.
Go with Full Knee Replacement ~ no more pain ~ get it done as soon as your life is affected by your pain. I speak from 2 knees and 1 shoulder replacement.
She was amazing to watch. In her prime.
She was awesome to watch... clear up to the end of her retirement... I really miss watching her ski....
Wow this is so sad..she is going to be in so much pain when she gets older..
That sucks, I hope she is ok.
Strong “ all around” lady... “ the mindset of an athlete “
All of Lindsay's injuries cannot hold a candle to the pain I'm feeling listening to this guy's voice and accent. Makes Fargo sound like the King's English.
PK and Lindsey will have super babies
Damn this is crazy. 10x tougher than me no doubt
I would be shocked Lindsey has never become addicted to pain medication. Seems like an inevitability going thru all those intense injuries. Pain management is tricky.
I feel you all the way having injured myself a ton doing various sports.
When I was younger I thought I was invincible.....A lot of that was the alcohol & drugs I took when I was young but I learned real quick that I was very wrong.....We as humans can be very strong but also very fragile.
I had one tibia plateau break 12 years ago. My knee has never been the same. I can't even imagen doing it four times, add to that all the ACL's MCL's etc. She has got to be in some serious pain. I think many of our sport stars and heroes deal with a lot of pain, the price they paid to be the best. I wish you the best Lindsey. I have friends skiing with knee replacements, so its possible. There knees no long hurt.
Few years ago we had a family reunion in Schladming. I was standing at the top of a mountain taking pictures and watched an endless parade of rescue helicopters flying in. About an hour later my nephew fell and broke his arm, requiring a hospital visit. When we all got together that evening, he and his dad told us they had counted over 80 pairs of ski boots lining the hallway from skiers being treated for injuries that day alone.
one of those videos Tough to watch
Yup. A lot of ex-roadracer/dirtbike racers like me are in the same boat.
Tough athlete was Lindsey Vonn. I think she pushed past her limits on occasions and paid the price. She blew the Olympics in 2014 due to injuries when she was at her peak. Still the best female alpine skier to date. Lovely person.
She definitely took crazy risks at times on the slopes. Made her win a lot but also this. Watching her ski I was always holding my breath.
Lindsey Vonn is a rock star and one of the best athletes of any kind this country has produced.
Lindsay it will never get any better ....i am there at 65 with 35 surgeries and it is worse everyday ...everyday . Do what ever you can now because TM does not happen .
Hope god will take care of you and hope you feel better!
One of the best avenues for relief is a tough one...... Thinning way down.....balance fat loss along with a little (denser) muscle loss (to an extent) to reduce the overall "work" for back, hip and knee joints...... very hard road to do after 45.....side effect, general health improves......but pain relief is the goal
If I could, I would thank her for representing the U.S. in all her international races. She must have a heart like Secretariat.
I don’t fear death but what comes between now and then scares the hell out of me.
Samuel Fink I’m not afraid of death also I just don’t want to be there when it happens
Amazing woman!
Praying for your future years to be full of hope and steps in technology/therapies to mitigate your pain. You have taken a talent you have and expanded it in so many ways that have been beneficial to those you will never know. I pray our God will rain down blessings and grace and paint some of your time left on earth as pain free. May you open your heart and mind to him and follow him where he leads.
She’s a super human
A tough beautiful woman who is a true champion. She’s given so much to the sport and has been a great role model. Hopefully she’ll be able to manage her pain down to a comfortable level.
Living in pain is not a life. But it will only get worse as time goes by.

During the part where she was describing the all the injuries she had during her career, who else thought of Evel Knievel.
I wonder if 20 years from now she will think it was all worth it. I know serious athletes will take the pain and gain but wow, her entire body is broken.
There is procedure they do in California, knee replacement in and out in one day. My buddy had it done, very little pain. He limped in and walked out the same day. Only motrin for a little discomfort.
Chronic pain is extremely difficult,I am doing all I can to mentally accept this to be my life, and yet I just have to believe in miracles.I wish no one to experience the pain I feel 24/7 for 2.5 years. No resistance and meditation wins the day🦋
Karen Fleet I feel for you, really I have severe sciatica, damaged, arthritis, 3 yrs. straight. ? Will learn to live with it. But it sucks. Good health to You.

She once described a skiing crash like stepping out of a car travelling at over 80 mph.
Her 2013 crash was INSANE, she’s tough asf though
That is one tough lady!!!
Hieniken and Vicadin. Used to be my best friends.
talks about being in constant pain...... yet ignores doctors suggestions on healing time 😂😂
This is why professional athletes are not spoilt brats but earn every dime.
@@gc1172 Actually it does. It is a business and profits get shared. Without the players there is nothing. Who should get the money. You? It is a reflection of what the public values - how much they pay and support this form of entertainment. Not all prof athletes get paid an NBA salary but nor do they get the same fan support. Cheers
I can still hear screaming that year in the Olympics.
I know the feeling of the humerus, I have had the same kind of break, but not as severe. I could not move my arm, it hung there.
doubt she will read this , but if ever she happened to....I broke my femur in 3 places, pelvic bone, jaw, orbital, and had a splenectomy from an auto wreck...I am in my 40s and have kept in as good shape as I was in my 30s with these injuries. I have a great workout I've honed over 20 years that has kept the pain at a minimum...I know because I tested it and stopped for a few months to see years back. .never again .anyway if you ever need a workout to keep you going pain free for the rest of your life id be glad to share it. I dont want any money, or anything . I just know how you feel when you spoke about having to workout. the offer is there. Again I want nothing from you.
To be in pain all the time is a tragic way to live and I dont think it's taken as serious as it should be.
We've taken sports to extremes that the human body will only tolerate for a certain amount of time. A guy weighing 300 pounds may be strong and quick, but his joints and cartilage don't know or care that it's muscle, only that it's extra stress. I trained in the gym of a guy that was a world champion powerlifter in the late 70s. He spent the last ten years of his life in major pain in multiple places. He died at 61 from a heart attack.
