Inspecting a 2005 Monaco Windsor Roof..What Did I Find?

- I had a customer that had a leaking slide room on his 2005 Monaco Windsor diesel motor home. Once I finally finished those two items, I figured I may as well look at his roof. I brought you guys along to look too.
I would recommend a Dicor lap sealant on the roof fixtures after they are cleaned. The ladder and horns would use proflex clear.
This fiberglass roof could use Plas-T-Cote sealant if scrapped and resealed, but it's easier to clean and seal with dicor.
I do not recommend flow seal lap sealant.

Great job. Keeping the roof of our RV’s in proper repair is paramount in the longevity of these things. Water intrusion will kill an RV in short order.
Funny you mentioned the anemometer as I removed mine early on. I never leave the coach with the awning out and if anything more than a slight breeze comes up I retract it to avoid damage.
Mike
I think that's the best practice with awnings, I had to re-build one a few months ago as a dealer left the awning up 5 minutes too long and a gust tore it off the RV
Glad I watched this one as I am looking at Monaco or tiffin.
Hope it helps!
Thanks for another one. Hope you and family are safe and healthy.
they are, thank you!
I used some kool seal around my vents and it seems to stick well and looks good, it attracts dirt, 2006 Monaco monarch, the paint looks better on that Monaco, mine has decals instead of full body paint, mainly clear coat peeling around top, I have tried 2 or 3 different repairs on paint and non have held up Kingman Az resident no cover
Quick tip for keeping water off the toppers:
I use under inflated beach balls (from the dollar store) to keep tension on my long topper, only takes a secong to get them in or out.
that's a good tip
Thanks James. Great way to start the morning.
thank you!
Thank you James for sharing again... on that one slide out it look like it had a piece of duct tape on top of it under the awning... but anyway not nitpicking nothing... hope everybody's doing well in the CZcams world thank you again
Good call!
Thanks James. Always great info.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks James. More great education for all of us.
you're welcome!
Thanks for the video James. I am now catching myself checking any roof I see, yikes, what have you done?
LOL...no one takes care of them
303 is great for uv treatment after a good cleaning and all loose materials removed and area's properly sealed. Stay Warm.
that's great advice. Thanks!
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Always learn something from your vids!
Glad to help!
Glad you addressed the clearance lights those are always prime leaking places and that rv cool fan im with you i would get rid of it and perhaps put in a regular maaxair fan in its place nice job!
I agree with you. I do not like that vent, it's ugly too ;)
You are a good man...thank you.
I appreciate that!
Would love to see how you repair that Monaco roof molding. I’m having that issue on my 2006 Dynasty. I’m guessing I need to put new and more screws in. Really enjoy your videos I have learned a lot. Thank you
Good video,
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you
You're welcome as always!
Another great video James try stuffingna beach ball under slide topper
Great idea
I just viewed your Monaco roof inspection gel coat full fiberglass roof. My 05 Safari Gazelle has the same roof since it was built by Monaco.
A previous owner repaired the fractured fiberglass near the rear cap with a black tar substance. My plans are to remove, possibly re-fiberglass and cover with the Dicor roll on roof coating.
I may be passing through Phoenix in January maybe I could get some on-site recommendations.
Thanks for all the videos!!
Great Video James! I have new to me 2002 Monaco Signature. When I walk on the roof there are some areas where the fiberglass flexes under my feet. Feels like it's not bonded to the surface below it. Is this normal for an old Monaco coach or do I have a lamination issue or dry rot or what? Don't seem to have any signs leaking inside. I'm wanting to add some solar panels and wondering if this would be an issue. Thank You.
yes it is normal and generally causes screws in the fantastic vents to pop loose
What is your opinion on a 2003-2005 windsor? Is this a good coach in those years to buy? Would you own one of these? I see you are a big beaver coach fan should i for one of them instead of a monaco?I am in the market for one and want to make sure I'm making a decent purchase. I am very capable mechanically so repairs don't worry me at all i just want s solid foundation. Thanks for your time
On that 05 monaco windsor will a ac unit fit in the same spot as that fan
I have replaced it with 14" x 14" fantastic vent so an a/c will fit too, however, the screw holes will not be covered and will have to be sealed.
Thank you James, What would be a common repair for the pealing gel coating?
The peeling clear coat is just paint. It needs to be sanded and removed and then resprayed. Most RV full body paint is 2 stage with the color sprayed first and then a clear coat over everything.
Lots of good tips. Wonder what years and models had issues with the roof screws breaking? I know after 2001 the Windsor on down went to aluminum side wall framing instead of steel....wonder if that had something to do with it??
I've seen it on all 2001-2008 monaco diesel products thanks!
The vent fan is 12v. I replaced mine with a maxair
you are correct. I have installed many fantastic vents in place of that, I should have caught that during the edit. Thanks!
Do you happen to remember the model? I have one that I want gone.
Learning from watching!
Glad to hear it!
i'm jonesing for a full roof replacement. lol
I'm sure something will be coming up soon. Thanks!
I am just wondering if you have done a video, or have any opinion on the 2 part Aluminum roof system with taped seam down the middle used on some Holiday Ramblers, Safaris, etc from the early 2000's?
Not yet! But they are very good roofs too
Thanks for your videos...what do you think of chemlink M4 sealan
I've never used it. It looks like it should work, just make sure it's self leveling so no voids are left in the sealant that allows water in.
You make me nervous when you look down over the roof edge. The camera perspective makes it seem like your leaning over pretty far.
I know, but I am firmly away from the edge, the camera just makes it look crazy. Thanks
I live in the East Valley. How do I get in contact with you to do an inspection on a 2017 Momentum 376TH I'm looking at?
Thanks in advance.
