The Melbourne council is to blame. Inadequate bicycle lanes that stop and start all over the place and force cyclists in front of cars is a recipe for disaster. Either do it right or don't do it at all.
I used to hate cyclists I used to yell and scream and honk my horn and I even once almost ran one off the road I used to think that the road is for cars not bycles and that starts at what you are taught at home then amazingly I became a cyclists my self and I have had a similar incident people need to respect cyclists and understand that by them riding it is actually reducing traffic congestion and more healthier for oneself and is also a lot of fun or a good leasure activity as I discovered
It works both ways. Drivers need to respect cyclists but cyclists need to do the same in return. I do a fair of cycling in Vic and 99% of cyclists are fine. There's always that 1% who ask for trouble by doing things such as knowingly cutting infront of cars or riding way out of the cycling lane and onto the road. I can understand the frustration of some drivers.
The drivers in Australia are one of the deadliest and most dangerous in de world. They combine ignorance, lack of driving skills with aggression on the road. Bad combination, and we seen the results of that on a daily basis.
Word! It amazes me every day again how a human being can completely turn of his brain once it sits behind a stirring wheel and sees 2 white lines in front of him. They can bypass you with 1m distance, but on the next red light 50m ahead they completely block your lane again, or they bypass you on an 80km/h road with just 40cm distance. But pee in their pants when they stop behind you in front of a traffic light and keep up to 4m distance between them and you. Never seen such bad drivers. Reckless, careless, ignorant, arrogant, short and narrow minded thinking, braindead, frustrated. but time works for cyclists. One day car drivers will learn it the hard way.
Have you seen what the drivers in South Africa are like? They don't understand how roundabouts work and it's constant honking of horns. Melbourne drivers tend to be very aggressive though.
Honking and rushing, all just to get stuck seconds later at the nearest red light. So extremely typical when it comes to situations like this. Also notice how the same driver comes from behind that same cyclist at 2:15 meaning he/she have gained absolutely nothing, but are in fact slower. Driver, here are some educationally info from you when it comes to your "bike lane vs road" statement: "I’ve looked through the 480-page-long Victorian Road Safety Road Rules 2009 and as far as I can tell there’s nothing in there saying a cyclist can’t use the entire lane if necessary. This is because the road rules treat cyclists the same as drivers unless otherwise stated (see rule 19). But there are a number of road rules we cyclists should be mindful of when selecting a lane position. Rule 129 says “A driver on a road (except a multi-lane road) must drive as near as practicable to the far left side of the road.” You could argue that riding close to the gutter isn’t “practicable” for a number of reasons. There’s often more debris and drain covers closer to the edge of the road and, perhaps more importantly, riding close to the curb gives you less bail-out room if a motorist does get too close. Rule 253 says that a driver or rider must not “cause a traffic hazard by moving into the path of a driver or pedestrian” and rule 125 prevents drivers (and therefore riders) from “unreasonably obstructing drivers or pedestrians”. It’s interesting to note that rule 125 also makes it clear that merely travelling slower than other traffic does not constitute a breach of the road rules … unless the driver is moving “abnormally slow” (follow the link above for a definition). As long as these conditions are met, and as long we aren’t riding more than two abreast (rule 151) - except while overtaking - it’s legal to use as much of the lane as necessary." cyclingtips.com/2013/05/how-far-from-the-curb-should-you-ride/
You know in some other states you're allowed to ride on the footpath? It's less dangerous than these lanes in Melbourne. I live in Werribee so luckily around here there is a lot of good bike lanes (the odd area where some idiot has smashed glass is a problem though). But I gotta go into Melb sometimes... do I wanna drive my car and be stuck in traffic or risk these horrible bike lanes?
probably not the safest move but the road rules state that a vehicle must give way to another vehicle already in a lane when entering or crossing that lane. so yep
It looked like you were keeping up with traffic just fine to me, people are just jerks. I was in a lane marked as a shared lane for bicyclists/cars, actually a bike pained right on the lane, and some guy started honking at me about a block before the red light. He pulled up beside me and told me to get on the sidewalk. I pointed out the bike markings on the road and he just peeled off. Even if I wasn't in the lane there is no way he could have made the light before it turned red. I have had a visible camera on the back of my bike for the last few months and it hasn't happened since. People are more courteous if they know they are being filmed.
I think it depends on the city, my city it is illegal to use the sidewalk like 10 blocks from downtown if you are over the age of 16, I'm not sure with Melbourne.
exodous02 yeah it is illegal in melbourne i believe once you are over the age of 13, however i still use the sidewalks on those narrow roads that are busy with cars because i just cannot see how i can maintain my safety as there is very little room for cyclists on those roads.
There's no way in hell a car can beat a bicycle in town. It's a disaster to drive in melb. I genuinely don't get people that drive into town instead of catch pt, especially when they are doing it every day for work. Just blows my mind.
"It's a road not a ****ing car lane!" would have been my response, or the slightly less insulting "if you don't want to share the road with bikes, get on the motorway".
I love driving around and punching cyclists in the back of the head and watching them fall over and I speed off before they can get my licence plate. Best stress reliever ever, highly recommend for anyone trying to quit smoking.
You know what's funny? Having bike Lanes but banning bikes from bike Lanes because they are pedal assisted and go over 25kmh 😂👌 the Netherlands has become hell
I live in Australia and at a previous place I lived, the street was lined with a bike lane but everyone parked their cars along it so you couldn't use the bike on it. And if you parked your car up on the naturestrip you got fined. Neither the drivers or cyclists fault there
Job done! Motorists and cyclists are the same people..as a cyclist you have every right and confidence to occupy a safe space on the road even if it is in the middle of the road in stop start city traffic. Let there be no confusion that we are respecting and protecting life and clearly the bike lanes had many obstacles in the way.
Please tell me where the black SUV was in the wrong at the start??? There was nothing he did wrong in the slightest! NOTHING!! He was on his right the whole time! How did he ‘inpact’ your ride at all??
... were you or were you not in the other lane? Did you or did you not switch lanes without even a shoulder check? doesn't matter if you can't pass in your lane, plan ahead. You made a manoeuvre that was dangerous. you're in the wrong.
safer than the suburbs, still...me...broken collarbone now, re elderly driver running red light and straight into me t-bone, Springvale, 26-July...was hoping someone had uploaded a dash-cam of it, actually..
I gonna show you dashcam movies from cars bypassing cyclists that ride properly in the lane too close with high speed, cutting cyclists off, driving out of side roads without caring of the cyclist that comes, blocking cyclists lanes just because of ignorance or not thinking ...... Then we can discuss who really is more dangerous. I would like to see how often you already made a dangerous move with your car that could have affected another participant on the road (car, motorbike, cyclist, pedestrian).

Don’t do it at all...walk u c***$
When the 1.5 meter rule came in in Australia, I can’t remember how many people rang up the radio station to report seeing cyclists in the car lanes.
fools. the roads were built before cars intended for bike and horse
If only we adopted the Dutch and Danish cycling culture, Melbourne would be such a great place for a cycling city.
my thoughts exactly.
Ever heard of public transportation, Mr. FireproMMA?
Do your research before you start swearing and behaving ignorant.
No not the dutch the law update = ebikes that go over 25kmh have to go on the car road which is up to 50kmh
And therefore uninhabitable because it'll be filled with cyclist motherfuckers.
@@allotrope2978 Better to have lots of bikes than cars

if only we could get everyone to have a crack on the roads and have a ride they'd all be much better i recon
Too many people on crack on the roads :P
Nah, the way i see it is traffic blocking. Nothing pisses me of more than when a cyclist is in the middle of the road and i cant overtake no respect.

Go back to your own country then.
Very true. By far the worst drivers I've seen
Have you seen what the drivers in South Africa are like? They don't understand how roundabouts work and it's constant honking of horns.

Your stuck in traffic coz of the bloody bike lanes
why did you cut on the inside of a car with its left indicator on at the 2.05 mark???...
probably not the safest move but the road rules state that a vehicle must give way to another vehicle already in a lane when entering or crossing that lane. so yep
but she/he was well in front???......... looks like a potential suicide move....
yeah i dont do that any more thats for sure
Pedestrians ear pods in oblivious to the world around them,I rang my bell,oh sorry I didn't hear you, yeah no shit.
"SEe YoUrSelF oN 7 NeWs t0niGhT maTe" lmfao
@1:52 mate! looks like you were riding a fixie.
Anyone still watching this 2019? Do you think a lot has changed in Melbourne the past 4 years with better bicycle lanes and infrastructure?
nah
Watching in 2024. Bike lanes here are pretty great.
On holiday using a lime bike
Later thay very same driver probably drove and/or parked in the bike lane

It's not legal for cyclists to use the sidewalk. It's the motorists that need educating on sharing the road.
I think it depends on the city, my city it is illegal to use the sidewalk like 10 blocks from downtown if you are over the age of 16, I'm not sure with Melbourne.

what is that nasty sound in the mic? r.i.p. ears for earplug users.. :\
Sorry mate, yeah I've done some work on the sound these, used to be a built in mic

Vlaka, that's because you're an idiot!
I've banned Vlaka for adding zero value, just trolling
It's internet for fucks sake!
Roads were made for people, for 7000 years we've had the roads for the PEOPLE.
In 70 years, the cars have taken the streets.
Time to take them back!
I love driving around and punching cyclists in the back of the head and watching them fall over and I speed off before they can get my licence plate. Best stress reliever ever, highly recommend for anyone trying to quit smoking.

The car was in the wrong. This time.
And, by the way the ONLY thing I miss from my time in Aus is NANDO'S.
Australian accents are unsympathetic.
1.5 metres when it suits them.
Hey man can I have your permission to add this Road Rage to other Road Rage At my channel link to you in description
Dangerous city for cyclist
Undertook a car that was indicating left and lost morale high ground.

add subtitles and work on your sound
Have done. Crappy virb unfortunately, maybe garmin will hook me up with some newer models
And your attitude
D-Lock
Goodbye mirror!
Please tell me where the black SUV was in the wrong at the start??? There was nothing he did wrong in the slightest! NOTHING!! He was on his right the whole time! How did he ‘inpact’ your ride at all??
I didn't watch the video. It's the cyclist's fault.
Ignorant peanut
Nice work and of course it was!
Lol
... were you or were you not in the other lane?
Did you or did you not switch lanes without even a shoulder check?
doesn't matter if you can't pass in your lane, plan ahead.
You made a manoeuvre that was dangerous. you're in the wrong.
I've got mirrors, signal and head check.
I was on the cyclists side, till I saw the under take....
Why would cyclists use city road? It's not safe at all! Not even for driving!
safer than the suburbs, still...me...broken collarbone now, re elderly driver running red light and straight into me t-bone, Springvale, 26-July...was hoping someone had uploaded a dash-cam of it, actually..
yet another bullet proof cyclist riding where ever he likes, do they not realise a car can kill them.
I gonna show you dashcam movies from cars bypassing cyclists that ride properly in the lane too close with high speed, cutting cyclists off, driving out of side roads without caring of the cyclist that comes, blocking cyclists lanes just because of ignorance or not thinking ...... Terrible noise, poor visibility, no context, poor video. YT filler.
It was 8 years ago.
Another entitled cyclist undertaking a left turning vehicle.
At what time mark was the left turning vehicle that was passed on the left?
+Cycling In Melbourne 2.02
Fair call, probably not the best demonstration of riding.
I've since adjusted my riding in the city. In this situation I'll now move behind the vehicle. The biggest pain is when you do this, and the cyclists behind you go up the left anyway
+Cycling In Melbourne 😀😀 Ride safely mate.
