  • For my Senior Seminar Project at Spring Hill College, we were asked to apply the use of media to solve a specific problem.
I saw this project as an opportunity to combine my two passions: film making and my hometown of River Ridge, Louisiana.
I decided to produce a video documentary that would provide a brief look into the history of this small town suburb.
By discussing the history of River Ridge in various interviews with the area's residents as well as conducting my own research, I was able to produce a documentary video that would share with members of the community as well as future generations, the story of how our unincorporated New Orleans suburb became what it is today.
It was a way for me to give back to the community I've grown to know and love in the past 21 years.
History is being lost with time and it is our responsibility to preserve it. I hope this documentary will serve as a reminder of that history and how important living in the community is to the residents of River Ridge, Louisiana.

The best memories growing up in River Ridge. 129 Elizabeth Ave. The levee was at the end of my block and behind it, was our wilderness playground. Can't imagine growing up anywhere else. We had chickens, rode our horse on the levee, fishing the Mississippi, and playing at Little Farms playground. Doesn't get any better

This is a great documentary. This was all the buzz around St Matthew this week.
I grew up in River Ridge on Citrus and moved away for 10 years. Just moved back 2 years ago and have never looked back. I am always teased by those who don't live here that I act like I live in "Paradise" I believe I do!! John Cognevich

Excellent mini-doc about my hometown! I grew up on Stewart Avenue, between the tracks and the playground. Bonus was my grandparents lived on Elm Place, about a 10 minute bike ride away. My grandmother, Orris Bennett, was on the River Ridge naming committee (see 12:30 mark). My parents were married at St. Matthew The Apostle church, and I was baptized there as well. I couldn't have asked for a better area to grow up in.

Grew up on Tullulah! Funny thing is just today, I ate in at the Crescent Cafe in Picayune, MS and when I told the gal who waited on me that she HAD to be from Nawlins, she said,"Yeah. River Ridge." I said where and she said on Dilton! We talked about people we remembered as we are both 54. Small world.

same here. I grew up on Joel Ave until I was 6 and actually climbed that big tree on the corner when I was little. I couldn't have a documentary without a shot of it

Grew up at the corner of Midway and Red Gate. Raised our family on Robin Lane. Still have the same house, son lives on Robin two blocks down and mother still lives on Midway. Garden Rd. was Poultry Rd. in 1965. I remember the Fabachers had a sign on their driveway gate that read "Do you believe in life after death? Trespass and find out for sure". Thanks for the memories.

What a wonderful documentary! I grew up in what is now River Ridge. I went to OLPH & then St Matthew, through 8th grade. I can't wait to share this with my sons, so they can see where I grew up. Thanks, Brian!

This is a great documentary on River Ridge! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I've always wondered what was in this area before our community came into being. I grew up in RR and live in Harahan now. Thanks Brian.

Hi, I am doing a project on River Ridge for my senior year in nursing school and I am having trouble finding sources on the history of River Ridge. Your documentary has been extremely helpful and I was wondering if you had the name of the book you show in this documentary and could respond and let me know that would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alyssa
