    THIS is our hidden little gem. It's our favorite stream close to home, that is just loaded with Native Brook Trout and holds some pretty large Wild Brown Trout too. We almost always streamer fish this stream, and they are almost always willing to eat!
    Hope you enjoy, this is probably my favorite video yet!

    Was out fishing in NY last Sunday and water was high and fast. Fished for about 2 hours without a single bite. Was about to give up when I decided to tie on a streamer and fish it like you guys in this video. It was like someone turned on a light switch got several bites caught two and lost two at my feet. Would have never tried it if it wasn’t for this video thanks.

      That's awesome to hear! Those are our favorite conditions to use a streamer, when the water is a little high. Glad it worked for you!

    G'Day from Australia,
    I really enjoyed watching your video. Beautiful looking small stream and trout. Those brook trout were magnificent specimens.The stream looks similar to some of the small streams that I like to fish. I'm fortunate that I have a small stream flowing at the bottom of my garden. It holds self sustaining brown trout. I usually fish a small dry fly with a nymph on a dropper. After watching your video, I'm really tempted to try a few streamers like you did.
    Here in Australia we have introduced brown and rainbow trout as well as brook trout in a few very isolated streams or huge brutes that sometimes mass escape from hatcheries. Never caught one of those. Someday, I'd like to revisit the US and catch a few native brookies.
    Thanks for taking everyone with you.
    Cheers,
    Steve.

    I love such streams, they are very challenging to cast. I usually catch more trees, than fish :-)

    A six foot light spinning rod with 4lb. clear line, #10 tru turn ( barb smashed flat) whole night crawler. That gets 'em really well. Sometimes a 1/16 oz bright pink Rooster tail.

    While watching some of your videos to get my fishing fix while I get snowed into my apartment, I noticed that hole at the end where you guys catch that beautiful brown is the same hole where you caught that 20 inch plus brown this last winter.. You really weren't kidding when you said that hole has treated you guys well!! Love your videos, keep up the great work!

    I like throwing the slump buster on this size stream also. Have you ever tried the muddler minnow? Just seems to get hit faster with less casts most days for me. They both are a bit of a sculpin pattern that's why I suggested it. Great video keep them coming.

    When you bow and arrow cast up stream is your fly line even out of the rod/reel touching the water? What length is your entire leader? I can't tell! Looks like a deadly tactic for streamers. Might need to try.

    Awesome Video I’m trying to get into fly fishing trout. I do fly fish a little for bass. If you don’t mind me asking what weight do you recommend that would be great.The trout that I would be fishing for would be about the size of the Brooks in the video. Awesome video keep up the good work.
    thank you

    • @alleghenynative
      @alleghenynative  Před 6 lety

      Vince Bono thank You! And if you want a rod that can kind of do it all then I'd go with a 9' 5 weight or something in that area. We recently have started using a syndicate 10' 2 wt and it makes nymphing and fishing for those brookies a lot of fun!

  • @capturehishonor9292
    @capturehishonor9292 Před rokem

    Great fishing but just imagine how much better it would have been if you had been there when the rain first started falling. It would have masked you from view, the water would still be clear for the fish, and the fish would have anticipated food flowing downstream. They would have chomped on most anything. If you really love brookies, I would chuck the browns and trash fish on the banks. Browns and rainbows supplant brook trout. You can catch them anywhere, but this quality of brook trout is becoming rare.

    • @alleghenynative
      @alleghenynative  Před 5 lety +1

      Thank you! We love the Dryft waders, we are pretty hard on gear and they really seem to hold up well, we fish them in the winter and summer months. Seem to fair pretty well in both conditions. The wading pants can be really useful in the summer months. I cant really remember the name of the slingpack
