Lea Ypi grew up in Albania in the 80s so 1985 was six years old when the dictator died. In 1990 she was 11 years old. How in the world is an 11 year old able to think in these terms? I grew up at the same exactly at the same time and in no way we thought like that. I got in so much trouble with the teacher because I did not agree with them and/or followed the party line. There were many of us like that...she is not unique at all.
Why don't you ask her how she went to Italy for school? Her family got at least 1Mil$ at that time after the fall of communism(from properties and because her parents were persecuted) and her father who was a member of the parliament in the new system "somehow" sent her to school in Italy. Ironically enough, capitalism made her rich. Since we are a very small community, people in the city of Durres know exactly who she is and how much she suffered. Nothing unique at all! Nothing! Many of them are very saddened and angry at her book. Go do some basic research for crying out loud!
Many of my friends are very angry at her book, not because she is a bad person(she might be a great person actually), but because of her ideology. Also, I had an Italian neighbor and we learned Italian from them. What she is describing is nothing new or unique to that time. I mean nothing new at all! UK please keep her, we don't want her back! Actually what a shame and how sad to have professors like her.

She did not think so on that time, but she interpret now in a narative way through her person as child the dimension of Freedom, being Free at that time. And she compares the freedom and democracy under Communism, with the freedom of liberal countries like Western countries now, which have also their own problems philosophically with the freedom itself.
