    I would highly discourge. The thickness of break disc is an important parameter for safety and reliability. The moment disc go below minimum thickmess or significant area of contact with break pad is lost then it must be change

      There are tolerances for the thickness of discs, so long as you adhere to these it is ok to either turn or grind the disc.

    There is an underlying flaw with this process (excluding minimum thickness requirements). By not installing the hub mounting surface perfectly perpendicular to the rotating axis of the lathe, there will be brake pedal pulsation.

      If you watch the whole video he machines the hub mounting surface. Although that could in fact make the wheel wobble.

      @@Paul_Tomlin I did watch the whole video, but the flawed logic still exists. If you watch carefully, you can see the run-out in the vented part of the disc. That's what initially caught my attention. Everything should be referenced to the hub face.

      @@dirtfishingdownunder yeah I agree for the most part it's not the right thing to do but hes done it as best as possible with what he has. This is what you do if you can’t buy/afford new ones and they may be fine. If they’re under the limit they may warp at which point the problem will be evidenced by a shimmy when braking. Then there’ll be a trip to the salvage yard and the process will begin again.

  • @douglasberg2881
    @douglasberg2881 Před 2 lety

    There is a reason the brakepads don't go all the way to the edge of the disc, and that is so you can tell it's worn out. Thus you should measure the minimum thickness. Even if the disc still has a couple of millimeters left of wear, it has to be able to make it through the next set of pads without falling below the minimum value.
    Although breakdiscs are expensive sometimes, they must be replaced. Tires and brakes are still a valuable lifeinsurance.

      I was in the motor trade for over 25 years and replaced many brake discs that had worn to their minimum prescribed thickness, some even thinner.
      Only recently I replaced the front discs and pads on my brother in laws car, a Ford Focus, because the discs were knackered.
      Then I replaced all four discs and pads on my brothers BMW. Why?, because they were worn the minimum specified limit
      Finally I replaced the front discs and pads on my sisters Ford Ka because guess what, they were also worn to the limit.
      At least I can go to bed and sleep easy, knowing that three members of my family can drive their cars on the public roads and stop safely.

      Anicassio, concordo que não é o melhor dos processos, mas observe que ele da um passe no fundo, onde e a referencia, da uma corrigida, nao menos este processo de torno não é o melhor também, isso diminui a vida da pastilha, o correto é retificando com o rebolo sem deixar marcas, mas é o que temos para hoje. Vamos entender, sequer relógio comparador ele tem.
