    Watching your videos changed my life. I’m a Nigerian who loves your building techniques…. watching your videos made me fall in love with Cordwood homes.
    I decided to build something with wood.. i recall my friend laughing 😂 at the idea saying that is built only aboard.
    Fast forward to now…… everyone keeps asking me how I got the idea for my farm house 🏡 which was built with 🪵 & wine 🍷 bottle..
    It wasn’t the easiest task because I had no knowledge in construction….. Few mistakes here and there…….. But I’m proud of myself.
    I decided to start my own CZcams channel to share my knowledge with others just like you did for me…..
    THANK YOU SO MUCH 👏

    Interesting process. I'm more experienced with Oregon cob, but cordwood is a gorgeous way to build, if you have a lot of wood.

    The question to me is not how to make it, but Why would I want to make it? I'm thinking of just using Type N mortar mix.

    Why paper ? It's a binder right ? Can't we use straw ?

      It also slows the cure because of the moisture in the paper. Many people use saw dust in a different recipe.

    Looking good Kirk. Maybe you mentioned it earlier but I don’t remember, will you seal the walls including the mortared joints once it’s dried ?

      Most experts say to leave them in sealed and make sure to put at least 2’ overhangs on your roof. That way little rain will reach the wood but when it does the end grain will breath and dry very quickly. We will not be sealing and will have 3’ overhangs. There are some who do apply a sealer but then you have to keep up on it.

    Could you shred the newspaper before putting it into the water? Would it shorten the prep time?

    • @backinthewoods2022
      @backinthewoods2022  Před 2 lety

      I don’t think so I believe it would take longer to shred beforehand

    do you recommend going to a cordwood building workshop before starting a project like this or do you think that it's just nice to have?

    • @backinthewoods2022
      @backinthewoods2022  Před 2 lety

      We did not take one our selves
      We did visit a few buildings before and helped with one project for a couple hours is all but it wasn’t a actual class. I feel we did a good job so far on our own project. I think it would be a good idea if are going to do a large project first thing.

    I wonder if sawdust would do it, instead of or in addition to, paper

    • @backinthewoods2022
      @backinthewoods2022  Před 2 lety +1

      There are numerous other recipes with sawdust so Iam sure it would but I haven’t tried it

      What about chopped wheat straw ?

  • @chuckmay2583

    I bet a garden shreder would work to shred the paper.

    Any reason why you couldn’t use cellulose blow in insulation? Seems like it would be a pretty quick mix.

      @backinthewoods2022  Před 2 lety

      Probably I haven’t hear of it being done though. I’m trying to do this house as cost efficient as possible so we won’t have a mortgage. I can get the newspaper for free and the cellulose would be expensive for the entire project
