Sorry for the poor quality of the Super 8mm Sound movie film.
Hope you enjoyed it. But this is some rare stuff, and scenes like this will never be repeated.
Filmed with a Kodak Ektasound 8mm Movie Camera in the spring of 1975. Film was taken while making my deliveries in North Elizabeth, and Elizabeth, New Jersey. If you watch closely, you'll catch a glimpse of my truck mirrors, as I was standing on my fuel tank steps.

You're not kidding it's rare stuff. I hired out in October 76, and am retired five and a half years. One little correction on the NE corridor South ='s West and North ='s East. I was a fireman on those New York to Washington DC jobs until 79 when they (ConRail) sent me for promotion to locomotive engineer. Thanks for the memories. Jim

She deserved to live on rightly. Cuz especially here, they were 40 years old and by the time these sequences were filmed they were running their final trains for Consolidated Railroad Quality and Amtrak.

I like the film just like it is it. I was 5 in 1975 and loved those times, even then.

Rare indeed, but my recollection of those beautiful machines goes back further.....my parents and i moved out of Newark, NJ when I was 8 years old (about 1957) and we landed on one acre of tree lined land just north of Metuchen, NJ. My dad used to take me to Penn station in Newark to watch trains and that's when I first remember Pennsy GG-1's. Eventually when I got a bit older my mom would accompany me on trips into Newark to shop and we rode the MU's, that was fun with the windows down :) Many times I sat at the Metuchen station watching trains pass for hours including the GG-1's and E-44's hauling freight. Nearly bought the farm one day at the northbound station walking around a sign on the platform that took me close to that yellow line......GG-1's don't make a lot of sound when they are coming behind you. I probably scared the engineer as he past me at about 50MPH, maybe 6 feet away.....eeeek. thanks for the memories.

Great footage -- what a marvelous parade of vintage PC passenger and freight equipment operating at track speed. Thanks for making this video!

Nice collection. I rarely see footage of E44s or Metroliners. I also didn't know the E44s could go that fast.

And at the time you didn’t realize that Penn Central was very close to going bankrupt. Conrail would be formed not long after this. But when one door closes, another opens. 20+years to follow Conrail now.
