I was 4 for 9 today getting off the lift today. Definitely the most stressful part of snowboarding experience.
It took me what seemed like years to get off the lift with no trouble. Here’s a couple tips that I figured out. Scoot a little sideways when approaching exit. Then ride straight off the lift flat based. Don’t try to get on an edge - just ride flat and straight. Hope that helps.
A massively underrated thing to help is a stomp pad. Rental boards should all have them, but its a bit of a shock when you try a new board with a slippery top and no pad. Definitely recommend to help with skating around and the lift!
I still struggle really hard, I’d say about 85% of my chair lift exits end in a fall. id love more tips / longer video on this
Do the snow dance guys we need it!! There is 14cm at local mt Timothy here in the interior, normal is about 75-100cm this time of year. Whistler is looking pretty skimpy of snow too.
I went from skiing to snowboarding at age 13. The instructor said I was the fastest person he'd ever seen pick up snowboarding, and he took me up the lift on my first day. I instantly fell and fell many times that first season (to the point I went back to the magic carpet to practice my one foot 😂). It is definitely the most challenging part of snowboarding for beginners, imo, and who you're on the lift with can drastically change that.
spoiler alert every instructor tells every kid they are the fastest they ever sen especially if they arent complete ass. Snowboarding is easier for kids to pick up then adults.
@devongoset8339 I've helped younger kids learn skiing and snowboarding at different mountains, and snowboarding is far more difficult at the start. Most activities, even educational are easier to learn as a child, but your comment doesn't make sense because most lessons are with children. He wasn't comparing me to an adult, nor did I think he was. Since I have helped younger kids/teens learn skiing and snowboarding, I can see I was more advanced (I never took a first-time snowboarder up the lift) because of my previous years of experience with skiing (including racing). All my original comment was saying is that even people who do well with most aspects of snowboarding from the start can still have difficulty getting off the chairlift (implying that it is a difficult task).
Had my first day of snowboarding yesterday and fell getting off the lift every single time. I’m actually not that bad at doing turns but when I’m not strapped in it’s like I lose all coordination in my body
I find having the anti slip mat on my snowboard is quite helpful when getting off the chair. That extra friction on your behind leg is quite helpful
I can contest to this being very stressful and anticipating the fall lol it took me at least four or five times on the mountain to master this getting off the chairlift. I think the more you practice 1 foot snowboarding, the more comfortable you will be.
Good job!
One foot in is when boarding is super dangerous. An awkward fall and the board pivots, that your knee completely twisted.
It's why I keep my weight centred completely and do weenie pushes.
I did have a one foot fall where the board were the board almost twisted the knee
Try getting on and off the chairlift with both feet strapped in, one foot strapped on a board is a rule for a reason.
Also way easier to put free foot behind board (heel side) when pushing along.
I agree!
Definitely true, only time I got my free foot pushing on toe side is if I’m hiking up a hill with my board still strapped in and I’m kinda just dragging it behind me
That chair lift exit is also not representative. majority of them just have a cliff at the drop
I've snowboarded for like 4 days or roughly 32 hours total. I can safely get down (ice coast NC) blues, but getting off the chairlift is a whole nother feat 😅
Getting off the lift was the easiest part of learning to snowboard these are the type of videos that scared me when I first went snowboarding It was actually pretty easy 😂
With chair dismounts I watched a few videos and got it right first time every time, including with that fast lift in Andorra, the one that scoops people back up!
Mind you, I had done a ton of button lift riding before then...
Really depends on the lift I learned at hunter mountian in NY and the lift dismount was super steep and icy. It was nerve racking for sure. Lots of lifts out west are way more mellow and have soft snow most of the time.
Hardest part of learning for me was flat straight cat tracks.
I've twisted my ankle and dislocated my shoulder coming off the chair lift 😂
I still cant do the toe/heel drag when one foor riding. I just turn the board then step off
That was the smallest off lift slope I've seen. Wish they were all like that 😂
I feel like the drop off was quite flat after this lift, I’m taking some newbies where it’s actually quite a dip on all the lifts soooo expecting it to be a bit more scary for them 😅
I agree with you lol that was a very flat drop point, it’s more scary when there’s a nice dip getting off the chairlift😊
Have you taken him recently? I remember when you made this video. Update?
Yo, why the gondola in the back zoomin?
Wish they all went that fast.
