    I am a retired guy with some dented vehicles I'd like to play with. No aspirations on a career at all. I've been watching your videos because I believe a full understanding of anything makes me better at it. I'm a life long DIYER. I appreciate your in depth old school theory of metal working. I've done enough hammer and dolly work to appreciate that. Thanks for the great info.

    Hi Marty, thank you for the videos. I have been waiting for you to upload videos for a long time. I met you in January ‘17 at MTE. It was a pleasure. Guys Marty, is a hard working honest to God good reasonable person. The last thing he wants to do is reap you off. I have meet a few of his students and all they have is good praises for him. His training is reasonably price and from what I hear top
    notch. I this moment, I still don’t know if PDR is for me, but if I decide it is, Marty is my guy.

    My "version" is that your "Tension" method makes the most sense ever - it works. That's what counts. Next week - this week upcoming - I'm going to build an exact copy of your door tensioning jig - I bet, with no doubt - it will be the most money-earning jig I ever build. I fix a lot of doors - from extremely rusted to fresh but dented - your door jig makes 100% sense to me - it's a no-brainer when it is pointed out to you. Stuff that never dawned before.

    • @martyrunik
      @martyrunik Před rokem +1

      @@jamesward5721 Yes it is. Make both towers swivel if you want to upgrade it a bit. Makes changing right to left doors a bit easier.

    • @jamesward5721
      @jamesward5721 Před rokem

      @@martyrunik I'm doing the "Horizontal/Vertical" thinking - in my head, the horizontal version works better but the vertical version takes up less space. I can't buy into the ROI of a swivel version, so I will go with a 2 left 2 right tension strap jig where the door remains horizontal as my first "Iteration" - if it annoys me, I will build the swivel version. Baby steps & all that - plus I have enough steel to hand to build the horizontal version without going shopping.. I'll go from there. :-)

    • @jamesward5721
      @jamesward5721 Před rokem

      TBH Marty - I want to figure out how to apply your tension method to quarter panels as much as I do to doors - quarter panel damage is common, it's always difficult to repair & I now see exactly how applying tension to a quarter panel makes total sense. I have a car in the shop with quarter panel damage - I know from you that it needs lateral tension applied to properly get the damage out 100% - but the "How" is a puzzler as the panel is sharply curved to the rear - I might work on that puzzle first as it is the front & center problem right now.

    Hi Marty,
    Probably not a good enough reason but my reason i want to learn is, i drive an oldtimer and do not have a lot of money to spend on a good tech,
    i want to be able to fix my own hail damage,
    i want to be able to fix my own door dings.
    The same reason i E-learned some reasonable mechanical skills.
    Without me DIY i would not be able to drive my oldtimer.
    So a few videos from you with some lighting tips and tricks would be much appreciated.
    Throw in some basic skills and traps while your at it.
    Hey i can always ask right!
    Thanks

    • @xraylax
      @xraylax Před 6 lety

      Top Gun PDR Training,
      For most of us the repair of those €200 door nicks and dings is the key to keep our old-timers on the road.
      For the larger dents and the speciality work, we have to go to a skilled pdr technician anyway, as most of us are not able to see the stresses and torques in the metal.
      The same as a we have to go to a good mechanic to repair a busted gearbox.
      A oil change, brake pads, or changing some cables, hoses or spark plugs, we can do ourselves.
      Also my wife would very much appreciate it if I got rid of my pdr training car door so the family can have their dining room back.
      I’ll stay tuned maybe I’ll pick up some basic skills from the speciality vids.
      Thanks.

      @@TopGunPDRTraining I checked out #7 the truth about pdr . I respect your honesty and I'm starting to enjoy your videos the best. I'm 52 been in the service industry most of my life my body is pretty broken and I'm probably retiring at 62 unless something cushy comes my way in the management at work. I'm looking to learn a skill that's a little easier on the body than the abuse it goes through now. I'm facinated with pdr and a perfectionist with my work. My goal is "or was " to pick up this art as a way to subsidise my income while doing something that can I enjoy, when I'm ready to downshift in life. Great videos. However you scared me away from everyone doing PDR. All i came away with from these videos is. Everyone’s a con artist (trainers and most of those who do PDR with the exception that do good work.)

    • @TopGunPDRTraining
      @TopGunPDRTraining  Před 6 lety +1

      Not everyone is a con as I mention several times in these videos. There are good trainers out there. But most PDR "trainers" are like trainers and schools in any other profession, all they want is your money and they will say anything, or do anything, to get it. They will "train" anyone who comes along regardless of how well the trade fits them. These videos were made in part to educate you on HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE AND HOW TO PICK A GOOD TRAINER. As I say repeatedly, this trade is NOT for everyone and it's best to find out if your a. good fit for this trade BEFORE you flush your money down a good looking sewer.
