The Scariest Descent in San Diego
Vložit
- čas přidán 15. 11. 2021
- Welcome to a hidden gem in San Diego, Mt. San Miguel. The climb up here is not for the faint of heart, and neither is the descent! The gate at the bottom stops anyone from getting up here in a vehicle so you're unlikely to run into anyone although I have seen service vehicles on rides here before.
The road is narrow and has inconsistent camber all the way down due to the steepness of the terrain it's built on. The rocks, sand, and never ending speedbumps add a few degrees of difficulty to this highly technical descent. Your heart rate is likely to be as high on the way down as it was on the way up.

Sick! Not only is it narrow and steep but also filled up with speed bumps.
those look more like rain water diversions.
speed bumps for idiots who don't slow down, oh wait...
@spartacusnow Damn that is some confidence.
well, he's got plenty of time to check out the road as he rides up before his descent.
Who else was yelling "eat it.. eat it... eat it!!" as he was catching air?
"it's not too fast on the way down because of all the corners."
Immediately goes into hyper speed.. love watching your rides Safa.
"brake bunny hop and corner at the same time"
how he jump without his tire exploding
It's a special move called *Helikopter*
@@Si-dw5en ikr youd think goin 25+mph and the corner hit the same bump youl go straight slightly and roll the tire over just enuff on landing itl taco the rim and pop it
3:08
Do a flare while your there
Beside the obvious danger of those curves and speed bumps, were you confident no other riders would be coming up as you were flying down? Second question... what type of saddle do you have that can accommodate those huge balls? ;)
certainly could cream a climbing biker!
This isn't a public road. Not going to mention the exact location, however the only other people you will see are service workers/trucks.
@@cody2653, trucks on the same road?
@@cody2653 truck wha-...?
@@raghavkamath I'm going to guess the top of the road has either radio/TV antennaes or municipal water tanks. Both have to be up high.
I climb those towers in the beginning 100’s of feet up for a living and I was on edge the whole video. Crazy speed and cornering. Nice job man.
Fellow ex-RF guy understands.
How you didn’t end up in the bush at 3:10 is frankly incredible
Yea, my own butt was puckered watching that bit. I can only imagine the pinch mark his own butt left on his saddle right there. Damn!
By braking , bunny hop and cornering at the same time
This would be an extremely fun ride on an mtb. Even if you had to escape to the bush you can recover np.
@@xolomartinez6036 I am an experienced inline skater, I think that decent would be suicide .
@@SLWNI And cattle crossings as well, I'd hate to hit one of them the wrong way.
One of the few times that speed bumps were a good thing here. They are definitely keeping you honest before hitting a curve at full speed.
speed bumps are never a good thing
@@juncearyoutube3336 maybe not for cyclist, but in some african countrys speedbumps are the only way to slower the car traffic down..
@@Child0fGOD well Africa is a whole different ball game my friend
speed bumps are usually a very good thing:)
Mount San Miguel. Been up there for cell and tv work. Sketchy drive when the road is wet and when it’s all fogged or clouded it. One of the best views of San Diego too. Sometimes when you get to the top, you’re above the clouds and the city is completely covered. Thank for the vid. Be safe.
Mt Miguel near Bonita ?
@@kevins9412 yeah, but its a closed road, only people with certain permissions can go on it. otherwise you can get a hefty fine i heard if your caught. But who really cares lmao
Extremely dangerous 😱, one mistake or malfunction and he could have been out of here man seriously great video but to everyone who does this please be careful 😩🔥
Bunny hopping corners is the latest addition to my growing list of "Nope".
That is Boss Level descending. Those speed bumps are scary as hell.
Boss level of stupidity? How about the other guys going towards?
@@kotegkoteg9712 Yes it is stupid looking at it from a 50 something year old body that does not race anymore. It is very dangerous. Your brain and body must be problem solving at above genius level on par with a predator chasing its prey while the prey is doing everything possible to escape.
@@Best-mx2of Lol, tell this again when you'll be in a morgue as a body or as a witness (at the best)
@@kotegkoteg9712 Again you are right, that is why I would not do any of that now. Can not do any of that. I now have a healthy fear of falling.
I've been watching for a couple of weeks now and I have to say you guys mash/smash/grind like no others I've seen. Definitely couldn't keep up with you guys but it sure is fun watching. Subscribed!
I'm sure I would ride the route faster! ...because I would definitely fall on very first corner straight down
I had a panic attack watching this...great ride!
That's a crazy ride... even crazier that you didn't have somebody with you in case you went off the side and people knew where you were
Always annoying when you gotta brake, bunnyhop, and turn at the same time.
😂💀
@@SAFABrian what camera do you use? I feel like I’ve asked a few times
@@SAFABrian there are multiple options in the link in the description, I want to know which EXACT camera not just a link to many cameras. I want speed recording
jeez I've hiked this mountain many times but never imagined actually biking down it .. amazing
I've been wanting to hike this mountain. I got lost last weekend 😩 Have you hiked it through that road?
Well done! The last time (also my first time) I did a similar descent I broke a front tooth into two pieces. So I would second other comments that this is extremely dangerous and don't do it without practicing!
Broken collar bone here!
Good thing you have disc brakes! I bet those rotors were getting warm. 🚴🔥🤘
U can cook a egg with those rotors
I think at many corners, you could brake earlier, which is not only safer, but also helps corner exit speed
Please try and rec video ))
Those beautiful fast descents surely is a rewarding treat after a long hard climb. This time around it’s gravity that does the driving.
I love the speed of long steep descents around SD... easy to find spots for a 50+ mph descents which are relatively safe. Just watch out for cross winds or if your bike isn't solid as a rock... the dreaded high speed wobble.
Scarey on road bike, much prefer mtb Rocky mtb for me1
The varsity cross country team from the local high school runs up this mountain in the late summer. We would make it up in less than 35 minutes on foot, which after being up that grade I'm sure you know it feels a lot rougher than a 7:30 mile! It makes your legs feel like jello the next day, and going down is hard on your knees on pavement.
I was going to say when reading your comment, coming down must be bloody awful. Makes my poor old knees ache just thinking about it.
The whooshing sound and the video itself is calming
Spooky! I'm glad there were no dog walkers, hikers, other cyclists, or deer around one of those turns!
Everyone: It’s the most steep and dangerous road in San Diego.
SAFA: Hold my beer
Lmao 😂
that sense of speed is awesome! seems like he was going so much faster.
I the beginning I was like, I'm really glad they didn't put any speed bumps in the corners. Oh wait
Those aren't speed bumps. They are dips for water runoff. I don't know what's worse!
Thanks for footage of this amazing ride! Can't wait the warm weather to come so I could start cycling season
i enjoy your solo rides the most.
I can't even drive that fast and here you are making it look so easy! pain is weakness leaving the body ~ appreciate the ride of a lifetime
WHAT are these emojis lilhoe 😭
@@bmarley hahahaha
Nice one mate, that was the most fresh air I have had in weeks! 😉🏆🇬🇧
In all seriousness that reminds me of the Pyrenees. Fantastic ride. 🌞
I live by the reservoir right at the base of Mt. San Miguel. Awesome to see a video of someone actually on the mountain.
Most scariest thing I ever seen , massive speed
what a breathtaking scenery
Bravo! Amazing bike handling skills here!
That’s pretty damn impressive! You’ve got some HUGE balls and skills!! Great job!!
this is far scarier than any horror movies of all time. Just watching this vids kinda gives me a heart attack :D If I were you I would have trust issues with my brakes
It’s on my phone screen and I’m still tilting my body and clenching at every curve
Dude you should make a video how to descend... that's nuts !
Then it would be like a "how NOT to do"...
@@aramondoreyjaydas1032 mate hahahahha you have no idea what I can do on a bike
Watching this after having a joint, the speed was too crazy for me lol! Take care bro
Breathtaking scenery. Makes me wanna move there.
I want someone to trust me as much as SAFA trusts his bike 😂. Sick descent!🚴♂⚡
I've ridden descents in California, North Carolina and Upstate New York. My fastest speed believe it or not was 56 MPH in Central Indiana.
holy shit
I was riding down a hill in San Diego and accidentally hit 58 for about 20 seconds. It was only when I looked at my strava did I realize this.
Bunny hopping in a corner !!
1:05 I thought it was OVER !!! omg. sick video !!!
Crazy dangerous with the speed bumps.
Wow… I live these descents vicariously through you B - and that’s as close as I wanna get to them… 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤜🏽🤛🏽🍻 #BadAssMan
Never seen Safa Brian go downhill that slowly
To be honest, I thought that too. That's how dangerous it must be.
Safa= no limits but tires gots limits lol
Dude it's all paved! I thought I was going to see you ride down the side of a rocky hill or something but this is a paved road on a hill.
👍
@@SAFABrian I wasn't trying to put you down Brian, what you do is cool but I have friends that race mountain bikes down hills steeper than this in the middle of the woods. When you start seeing people hitting trees and cartwheeling on wipeouts it makes this video look like a ride through the park. Lol
@@JH-jd8ip As a mountain biker, I can assure you this is sketchy. Their weight is over the front wheel, there is no suspension to help the wheels track, while that sounds not important on smooth surface it is, especially if you want to pump the ground to gain traction. Lastly its extremely easy to wash out leaning the bike because of the tire and rim width.. especially without any corner support. So good on you Brian. There are some awesome trails down here though..how far you wanna push your luck all starts at the top not the bottom!
Anxiety level 💯😅 This is the kinda thing I like to see!
this is making my legs tingle..
It is unfair of how you would spend 3 hours cycling up a mountainous road, and then only take 6 minutes for the descent
I can assure you, it is very much worth it!
Madness, the road surface and visibility on some of the corners!
you are an absolute speed demon, in the fullest sense
Awesome riding! Yet so lethal too! Anything could go wrong: fast motorcycle or vehicle coming up; cyclists coming up; and all other imaginables within the Law of Averages (the more risks one takes the more the risks LOL). Best of luck. Stay safe (if possible).
Great and stunning video. Did Jay Peak, Vt a few times in the distant past - once hitting 83 km/hr. But never was the descent as windy as this. Very impressive, and those corners he took just a little wide - oboy..
I lived in San Diego for over a decade. I always rode to the top of Palomar from RB & back every weekend. Never knew about this one.
I’m glad no snakes or other riders . What suspense. 👍🏼
I was on the edge during the entire video, loved it
Idk I think skating down dictionary hill is scarier, but this is good too
Wow GTA 6 is coming along nicely!
When I was actively racing (Cat 2 Road, Cat 1/UCI CX, Cat 1 MTB, Cat 1 Track) I used to be the most aggressive descender out of anyone I ever raced or trained with (a requirement for sprinters tbh) but I still don't think I'd fuck with this hill. Killer send.
If you genuinely raced in those categories then you must have done worse. So you didn't race in those categories. Pathetic effort at lying.
@@garymitchell5899 ??? Why would I lie about racing categories? It’s amateur cycling, it’s not that big a deal. Any idiot with watts can hit those levels without too much work. If you think someone’s got big dick descending skills just because they’re high category you’ve never raced at that level. I watched a kid that went on to race at U23 worlds with such bad pedal technique he couldn’t stay in a straight line on the track
It's too cold & snowy & windy to ride today....but that's ok, here's another SAFA Brian video I haven't ridden yet!....
Wow this guy is not wrapped to tight. Awesome video but scary as !!!!. Speed bumps make it just insane. Great video
Good call on the disc brake setup
I would have flown right off the side of the mountain, great video mate!🚲🙂👍
No need for cardio this morning, just watch this video.
That's a decent descent.
It's not that it's scary, but your speed is making it scary lol.
Does anyone else here appreciate how stable the camera is?
Great video! I've always wanted to walk up these hills. Thanks for inspiration. 😊👍
Better watch out for this idiot if you decide to walk up it
Be careful for youtubers shooting dangerous descent videos while you're walking ;)
Do it. It's a pleasant day hike from the reservoir. A bit rough towards the top of Mt San Miguel, at least when I last hiked it many years ago, but worth it.
Wow speed bumps around sharp turns!!
If I had the tenacity and the huge majestic balls to try this out, ti would be incredible. It looks super fun, but super deadly for someone not prepared for this
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin'
Didn't know I could hold my breath for 6 minutes and 29 seconds.
😲
This downhill is just the cycling tourist trophy 😮
I got 40 kmph on my mtb on road in camera it looks fast but for us it is air coming through and the chain rotating voice
That sound makes me miss my roadie so badly
Bike sounds like a TIE Fighter 👌🏻
I swear it looks like your wearing Oregon Ducks gloves. 😍
Hitting that apex is sooooo important
I was cycling 60 km/h but not on such a narrow and winding road ... respect
I’m watching this and using Salad Tongs to pull my Balls Back out.. Geez Bri!.. Hitting those Speed Bumps at 40 Yikes!
Going down hill this fast on a road bike is very extreme. Im feeling his excitement!
Absolutely awesome dude. Congratulations.
That looks like a lot of fun would love to give that a go on my bike
"15 MPH" painted on the street :D
That was a Heavey Mountain Man!!!
GOD BLESS US ALL!!!😊🌄😇💖💯
"Let's do 3x the speed limit down this road. Oh, a hairpin turn, let's slow down to 150% of the speed limit..." I had to double-check I wasn't running the video at 2x. I have to believe Google recommended this because I watched a couple of roller coaster videos.
Dankie Safa
A beautiful descent
Bro,I'm observed that while at corner why are you taking bike to the edge of corner that will make it unsteady were you could mess up your line..
Balls of steel!!!
My palms are sweating 😅 this looks so dangerous
Watch out man . And thanks for making this
Smooth surface
Guy Martin would love that place, IF he's not already done some record already.
Fair play fella
Ill be sure to add this to my list of nopes.
You are a beast. Please stay safe out there.
one of my goals is to be able to do something like this. im a 6'2 250 pound guy and my absolute max speed is on flat ground 24 mph. I average 13 on a good day. i can only imaging how alive you must feel going 40 mph.
