In this episode of True Crime Analysis, Emma Kenny explores the deeply unsettling case of Bart Whitaker, a seemingly normal son who plotted the murder of his entire family in a twisted quest for inheritance.
The Whittaker family of Sugar Land, Texas, seemed picture-perfect from the outside. However, within the family's comfortable existence lurked a sinister plot masterminded by the eldest son, Thomas "Bart" Whitaker. Emma unravels Bart's meticulously planned plot to hire a hitman to kill his family and inherit their wealth.
Emma dives into Bart's psychological profile, exploring his manipulative and sociopathic tendencies that made him capable of committing such a horrifying act against his own family. Emma also scrutinizes the investigation that led to Bart's capture and subsequent death row sentence.
The discussion also covers the controversial decision by the Texas Governor to commute Bart's sentence to life in prison following his father's passionate plea for mercy. This case not only reveals the depths of human deception and betrayal but also brings up complex issues surrounding family, forgiveness, and the justice system.

She tells it like it is point blank, simple as!! I mean to most it may not be “professional” to speak the way Emma does but hey, at the end of the day, Emma just says what’s needed to be said regardless of the professionalism, and I’m sure she’s only putting it “mildly” in some cases.. there are other cases where it’s obvious she’s being mild.. but so appropriate given the circumstances of the cases she’s covering!! I would give anything to force all of the murderers & perpetrators to listen to their cases (that Emma covers) with them starting off getting all excited thinking they’re ever so special to be the main topic of the case just to end up heartbrokenly devastated by the time they’re done listening to be forced to listen to Emma rip them a new ass hole all while the victims are the star of the episode!! It would be a dream come true tbh if they all had to listen to Emma’s opinion of them and her just dehumanizing them like they did their victims.. That’s just me though!!

I once dropped out of university without telling my family. I had been struggling with depression, suicidal ideation and eating disorder even as a teen and had been in therapy and on meds, but when I started university I had a major relapse and fell into a deep depressive pit where I wouldn't leave my bed for days, barely ate, stopped showering or brushing my teeth, and felt incredibly depressed, paralysed and empty, like I wasn't even in my body, I wasn't even there.
I didn't go to my classes, and I failed them one after the other, and eventually I dropped out completely. In that time, I didn't immediately talk to my parents about what was going on. I'd completely isolated myself from all my friends, wasn't talking to a single person anymore, and my family was in a different country and I was so apathetic and numb, I didn't tell them. But when I finally managed to do that, it was such a relief. I will never forget sitting on my bed with my mum and telling her I couldn't do it anymore, I was failing uni, I couldn't go anymore. My parents helped me so much. They're the reason I got better. Finally telling my parents I dropped out of uni was the turning point that changed everything. I got help, I got back on my feet. I picked up the pieces, but I would not have managed without my family.

I remember hearing about this story, just unimaginable to think why it came to this and how he managed to persuade the others to go along with his plan.
The only reason I can even imagine his father asking for leniency and paying to defend him is if it is down to the fact he has already lost his wife and son through violence and can't bear the thought of losing the only remaining member of his family. I feel so sorry for his father as I would think he is dealing with an unsurmountable amount of trauma and emotional turmoil.
Personally, I don't think I could be strong enough to want leniency for a murderer, regardless of my relationship to them. Bart showed zero remorse and deserves to face the maximum consequences for his actions.

I'm watching this during the hour and half lunch break from the trial of Leticia Stauch for the brutal murder of her 11 year old step-son Gannon, in January 2020. She then made up several stories, and she disposed of this precious boys' body in a suitcase and dumped him off a bridge in Escambia County, in Florida with the hopes that the body would make its way into the Gulf of Mexico and never be discovered.
So, very sad. Hoping for justice for Sweet Gannon stauch! 💙💙💙🙏

I heard of this case years ago, but I was very eager to see how you handled it and I was not disappointed. On one hand I think Bart's father showed a great deal of forgiveness for what Bart had done but on the other hand I have to wonder...WHY???? I believe I would be thinking, if not of my dead wife, at least of my dead younger son and I would allow fate to take its course with dear old Bart. I would have been thinking of the people Bart had TRIED to recruit to do this job who refused or who were unsuccessful because this was not a one-time, I-learned-my-lesson-and-I'll-never-try-that-again act. Bart was determined to see this through and that's why after his mother and younger brother were wiped out he told his puppets (sorry, but that's how I see them), "You didn't finish the job because my father is still alive." I can't even express how much contempt I have for this waste of DNA.

I could quote that word for word the amount of times I've seen it played in true crime vids, but hearing the gasps from the audience really made me realise how numb I've become to the more shocking details of true crime. So, was really glad I got to see the usual things I watch online in a live audience setting, really gave me a slap to the face (in a good way). Loved the show, was really interesting being able to compare serial killers like that, cause most vids focus on one without drawing comparisons. Anyway, gonna binge-watch your vids now. Because he is letting his kid run the show, make demands of him, and the dad just let's him have is own way. "Oh, the lawyer I'm paying for after you tried to have me killed isn't good enough? Sure, I'll fork out more moneu for someone that meets your standards!" I have no doubt that if Bart had gotten off, or even out on parole, he'd try to have is dad killed again. This guy should have been put down when he was supposed to be.

(I'd love for you to cover the case of James Prout, no one ever talks about that case, I've only ever found one documentary and it was just all about the killers... James Prout deserved better and I think you could do that, I'll warn you though it's heartbreaking and it stayed with me for a very long time. 💕)

Just checking in to say that I’m still watching all your episodes even though I’m not making the premiers. They continue to be among the absolute best on CZcams, confirmed by the fact that other vids of Emma’s cases appear soon after. If you want *all* the details and you want them first, this is where you need to be! Keep going Emma - I haven’t left you… and a big shout out to all your wonderful premierbods (I miss them!)!

I get that the father saved his son from lethal injection. I respect his wish to not loose another family member. Capital punishment is a sign of helplessness of a society that is riddled with horrible crimes. When I think “he/she deserves to die”, it shows only my shock about the crime. But justice is not there to make us feel better, it should never be revenge.

Imagine being in a good family and being spoiled and still you’re not satisfied. He should’ve been very grateful for his good family. The parents shared their wealth very generously with the children, gave them everything they needed. But no, Bart wanted all the money! It’s so unimaginable that he wanted them dead. What a disgusting excuse for a human being! And it’s sad that his dad takes some responsibility! It’s NOT his parents fault at all that their son turned out this way. They were good to him and that’s all! You don’t become a psychopath or murderer because you’ve been spoiled as a child. Barts upbringing have nothing to do with his actions. I wish his dad wouldn’t take any responsibility for this! For his sake I hope he can realize he didn’t cause this in any way. Bart had a good childhood provided by his parents, and had a brother who looked up to him, but he was a narcissistic psychopath and nothing could’ve been done about that. Unfortunately.

Hey Emma! We love & appreciate you so much. I'm sure the victims & their loved ones appreciate you too. If you get a chance could you look into my best friends murder?? It was actually a double murder. Man killed my best friend, they (a few men) cut up her body and then a man named Matt Cooley who helped kill Tracey, my friend, chopped her murderers head off with an axe in his sleep, chopped him up too and burned their bodies together. Her name is Tracey McKinney and her murderers were Curly Vandyke (the one who was also murdered) and Matt Cooley. Happened on Christmas in 2021. There are still a couple of people who helped running free. I miss her so much.
