I agree on the international travel comment. I was fortunate to travel to most of the US, much of Europe and a good part of Asia during my career and I found that people are more alike than different no matter where you go. Most people were very friendly in nearly every country I visited. Now, most stereotypes have some grain of truth and people in Germany and France tend to be less friendly and outgoing than are people in Ireland and Italy, but the differences tend to be minor. Mark Twain was right on the money when he said “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
Thanks for the shout-out guys! When I was working in orthopedics, it was in an outpatient specialty clinic in Santa Barbara county, so we'd often see patients after they had already been treated in an emergency room or urgent care. Since I often commuted to work on my motorcycle, I would catch a lot of heat from my fellow nurses when a patient with a motorcycle injury would come in. The fact that most of the moto-related injuries that I remember splinting or casting were from motocross riding helped me push back on my colleagues a bit :).

My son started out on a GSXR1000 while he was in the military. Against my advice of course. I've been riding for over 40 years and have never owned a liter bike. I've just bought an MT07 at the age of 67. It scared him so bad he doesn't even want to ride anymore. He sold it for next to nothing.
This was my first bike I owned as well. It all comes down to how much control you have with your throttle. Don't goose the throttle if you're not ready for the feeling it offers, especially when in the power band. I enjoyed not having to shift when accelerating and going up steep grades. Sorry to hear he didn't sell it for what it was worth, the market right now is hot for bikes or vehicles in general.
My middle son, without consultation, went out and bought a brand new (then) FZ-09 and had it trailered home before he even had his driver's license. I said there's no way that's the first bike he's going to ride, so I went and bought a beat up '92 CB750 for him to learn on, which is now my daily rider. It was nice that he, his brother and I all got to do the MSF together. His brother bought a used Ninja 300, loves it, has put 30k on it over 4 years in Michigan, and doesn't want any other bike. Middle son has since blown throw a ridiculous number (IMO) of bikes in 4 or so years: (2) MT/FZ 09s, (2) MT 07s, Ducati Panigale, Aprilia RSV4, Husqvarna 701, WR 250, ZX-6R and I bet I'm forgetting one or more. All of them (other than the WR 250) were, according to him, "the last bike I'll ever need." It blows my mind. I spent $400 on my Craigslist special plus another $1,500 or so functionally restoring it.
I've ridden a 1000cc bike don't expect I will ever own one.
@@NickWilliams016 That's what I told him yesterday. He was stationed in Alaska and I think that it was peer pressure from the other guys. He wanted to be part of the group. And him having more money then he'd ever had. In Alaska you have wide open roads that you can do 160 mph. It was a beautiful bike though.

I live near the Bay Area (where a lotta folks have more money than sense), and there are dozens of Ducatis on craigslist with under 5,000 miles. Can find some pretty sweet deals if your patient.

Zach, 10,000mi in 4 weeks is doable, but you’ll be tired. Just because you’re on your bike, on “vacation” doesn’t mean that it’s not tiring, that’s an average of 340mi/day which is fine if you’re in a car and you don’t want to see anything, but if you’re on a bike, wanna take in the sights and enjoy, I would drop the average to a max of 300mi a day, and add a day of rest every 5 days. You’ll enjoy the trip a lot more if you’re rested. Also it’s safer to be well rested. Good luck!

My dog LOVES riding on my bike. Same thing as Moxie, she took to it instantly. I think any dog would love it. I use a K9 SportSack, and if I could've bought it from Revzilla, I would have. Untapped market!!
For beautiful bikes, the Ducati Sport Classic might my favorite. It might not an original pick, but I love how it blends so many different elements from different styles. Spoked wheels, twin pipes, half fairing, seat cowl, trellis frame, v-twin, aggressive riding position. Classic and modern, sporty and casual. Love from Toronto for all that you boys do!

Wow guys you hit it out of the park on so many level's in this pod cast. I love Itchy Boots and what she does and now I have another amazing You Tube channel to check out from Guatemala. It bring this old guy to tears to see what these amazing ambassador's of world travel on motorcycles are doing especially in helping young women and showing that most of the people in the world are good and kind people. As Mark at Biker Bits says Keep on keeping on. Thanks guys and gals from RevZilla.

I own a 2016 Kia Soul EV. The sound generator activates in reverse and its intent is to warn nearby pedestrians that the vehicle is moving. This has no correlation to loud pipes.
Great episode, worthy of the penultimate title.
Excellent showcase of the ruffly dog stuff, seems weird but totally relatable to want to take your dog with and seems like they create awesome stuff.

I priced out gen 1 z1000 rear shocks some 2-3 years ago. Theres no track in the close diameter of my dwelling, never been so I skipped it.

Thank you for the podcast. It is my absolute favorite.
In regards to ride modes - for some bikes and usage situations it makes a bit more sense, example: Husky 701/KTM 690 has two. One, for road with all ABS and TC on. Mode 2 for offroad with relaxed TC and ABS on front only. And you can switch between the two while riding. I find myself using this much more often than I used to do on F850GS.

Ride Modes. I'm a BMW K1600GTL owner here. Solo, I ride 80% of the time in 'Road' and then occasionally bump it to "Dynamic" if I want to get frisky. I will go to "Rain" mode when it's wet, but I'm primarily a fair-weather rider, so that generally only happens when I'm caught out in the rain on trips.
When I do use "Rain" mode a lot, is when I'm riding 2-Up - even when it's dry. It simply makes for a much smoother & pleasant ride for my passenger. Far less jerky on up and down shifts and my passenger (usually my wife) doesn't bash her helmet into mine nearly as often.
I don't know how Spurg kept a straight face as Zack's orange smurf hand comes into view to scratch his nose.
The dog segment was great
I had a blast chatting with the guys about my adventures with Moxie, but she was snoring away through the whole thing!

Hey Guys, I am a regular listener and love your content. I have been planning to comment on your Podcasts for a long time but never had a right thing to say until today when Jess raised the topic of riding with Dogs. My Shih Tzu can't have enough of riding with me on my Royal Enfield Std 350. Currently he rides on my tank, but have designed a box for him to be comfy behind me. It's a significantly delayed project and will execute it soon for sure.

I normally like to listen to the podcast while I'm out driving to and from work. But I had to check out the photo shopped motorcycles. Spot on and I would have to say I have to go with Zack's even though Spurg's Triumph KTM combo sounds the most pleasing on paper.
For most beautiful bike, I'd say the current Ducati Panigale V4S with the wings just looks gorgeous. I have a BMW R18 classic and it looks just classicly good. Think what you want about how it rides, but I love it and it undeniably is gorgeous.
For cheaper bikes, I'd say Royal Enfield makes the best looking across their whole line (I had a Continental 650 and loved it, got constant compliments). I guess I'm just a fan of classic styling

love the podcast , but to the guy going to alaska I had a vstrom 650 and have currntly a fjr 1300 , fjr is ok on gravel roads , pa style but nothing more more for roads , vstrom 650 is a good choice get a throttle lock , lighter than a 1000 and will do 120 and good luggage and wind protection thats my choice👍 , and why all the hate on fjr lol , its a great bike just a hair heavy

Been pretty obsessed with the MV Agusta Brutale 800RR's looks lately. It's quite epic.
Hey fellas, I'm Zack with a "K" (motorcyclelibrarian on the 'Gram). When you read the listener comment about riding modes, I immediately thought of the Triumphs I've owned. I had a Tiger 800 which I traded for a Scrambler 1200 XE (which I love, and I bought after someone on this podcast-possibly Spurg- said that you should own the bike that makes you give it a second glance before you walk away from it at your destination).
I've ridden both bikes off road, and I'd say that in some cases, trying to ride off road with the bike in any of the road modes is borderline unsafe. If you try to tackle loose gravel and find that you've forgotten to switch out of rain mode, the bike will do some really weird things.
Furthermore, it annoys me to no end that Triumph made those bikes default back to street mode if you happen to shut off the bike. I wish I could reprogram that "feature". My friends and I fancy ourselves an adventurous bunch, and our outings feature frequent wipeouts and stalls, especially when we're out tackling the fire and forest service roads here in the Washington Cascades. We always have this ritual of calling out "Off Road Mode!", partly to psych ourselves up, but mostly as a reminder to make sure we're not setting off with TC on when we start up again after a pause in the action.
Most beautiful motorcycle of the modern era is the MV Augusta F4, any year,, in the silver and red colorway.
I listen to the regular podcast ,very well done and very educational. I'm 50 now and have a 2011 street glide and satisficed but still looking for something else to keep my interest. Race motocross in the 90's District #6 from North Wilmington ,Del. I feel I need something else like a adventure bike, KTM, Triumph, BMW (GS) to keep my interest in motorcycling, I understand that Honda is coming out with a new ride called the NT 1100, Parallel Twin? Any comments on this ride or a review coming, just wondering if this bike would be the fix that I need to keep me moving in the 2 wheel world!!!
Liter bike to most people means a super sport. a bike with a displacement of 1 liter or over is not the same thing. I have an 1100rt and while being heavy it's not scary power. a modern liter bike has an extra what 100hp and every input need to be more precise huge difference.

Speaking of BMW dropping Husqvarna the nuda 900 is still one of the most unique and exciting bikes to ride and look at. I currently own a vitpilen 701 from Husqvarna (KTM) and love it to bits. It's so unique and payed $10000 aud brand new. Sadly discontinued now ( ignoring it's had 3 recalls now and goes back to get fixed tomorrow) love the podcast from down Under

Contact Zack and Spurge #notactualparentingadvice New riders need to remember that there is a huge difference between a 1000cc cruiser and a 1000cc sport bike. Ive always heard ride your bike. When you have different modes, especially rain mode, its suddenly not your bike anymore. In a rain storm switching to rain mode would not be something I would ever do because in that situation I would want everything with the bike to be familiar and known. Did Zack go across Alaska on a Versys 1000? Got to either be that or a Tenere 700. I think the most stunning motorcycle I've seen is the Honda Rune, it's a ridable piece of art. I am 6' tall and was about 350 when I took my MSF on a Yamaha 250, it got the job done. Ackbar might just want to get a bigger bike, and its not like your hurting for choice in the sport naked market these days. The Honda PCH would get me to give up motorcycling for that 2 year span.

Best looking…hard not to be influenced by bikes you couldn’t afford when we were young, just like classic cars. So for me, hard not to consider a BMW r100RS. Also believe the Top Gun GPZ900r is just stunning, so is it’s younger sibling the GPZ750F with the faring lowers. In the same vein, always loved the Honda and Yamaha turbos from the 1980s. In todays world, the BMW R18 is a beautiful bike seen in person. Wouldn’t own one, but great to look at.
The Suzuki TL1000 might actually be a worse beginner bike than a S1000RR.
Sure it’s much slower, but they do have a reputation of being pretty gnarly.

Regarding Akbar K who rode an MT-07, it might also make sense to have the stock shock revalved by a good suspension shop in addition to a new weight specific spring.

For me the 2018 MV Agusta F4 RC is THE most beautiful bike I've ever seen. Is it not a race/track bike only though?
Any sport bike from MV or Aprilia after 2007. I have a 2009 Aprilia RSV1000R Factory and think it's right up there with the MV. I also think the 1986 Yamaha FZ750 is gorgeous, albeit older. That was my first bike back in 1997.
New CTXP sounds great, but when do we get season 3 of Throttle Out, Zachhh?!?
Unfortunately, some bikes won't allow you to create your own ride mode from a combination of rider mode features. BMW is like that, at least it was in 2016, and you had to pay extra for the programmable User Mode. Luckily I had that option and after a week or so I found the combo I liked. In Dynamic mode, I hated the predictive throttle response so I set my user mode to dynamic traction control with normal throttle response.
1:11:15 Oh, Zack's beard definitely *is* better than Spurgeon's, but I'm not at all angry about it. Good for Zack! He's just blessed with the nice facial hair. It contributes to his "regal" mien, as Spurg likes to call it 😉
For the aesthetics point, Ducati for sure, I think have built some of the most gorgeous looking motorcycles in the last 2 or 3 decades

What’s your take on the future of lightweight dual sports? I see brands like Kawasaki and Honda coming out with 300’s, but at the same time see Yamaha discontinuing their Wr250r with no successor in sight.

Best looking bike of the modern age is easily the Ninja H2. It looks like a space ship. Like... aliens came from outer space to make first contact and they don't want to eradicate us, they don't want our resources, and they don't want to blow up our planet to make way for a space highway. These aliens are just like "We heard you like going fast, we also like to go fast. Check this puppy out" And they open up their little saucer and two little green men pushing each handlebar roll out the Ninja H2.
Panigales are a close second.

I love /I’m so jealous of people who figure out ways of financing their fun without really working.
As big a fan as I am of liquid cooled engines, they just don’t look right to me in a 70s styled retro bike. I am sure that is due to growing up in the 70s with finned engines has left that style imprinted in my mind as what a motorcycle really should look like if not faired. I think it would enhance the look to have a few fake fins on the cylinders and heads even though this adds costs for no function.
