Jimi Hendrix- Johnny B Goode Reaction
This is one of the greatest guitar performances ever.
So true and so often overlooked.
The guitar was playing him!
The first time I saw Jimi play was in1968 at Hunter College. I had a front row seat directly in front of him. 52 years later I don't think I've recovered yet! He changed my life. I was 16 years old and in need of a Rock and Roll hero that I could look up to too. Then Hendrix fell up from the sky! I was a young Black kid in the South Bronx, but when I looked at him, I knew that the sky was the limit! He gave me hope and inspiration when I really needed it! I love you, brother, and always will!
That's an awesome story, thanks for sharing! My dad also saw Jimi in 68' in San Francisco when he was 21. Just the same, he said the performance was like nothing else he had ever heard at the time, with the feedback and distortion etc. The performance of Red House he saw is what stands out the most to him, is what he has always told me.
@@yearginclarke It's so nice to see the love and appreciation for Jimi being passed to new generations!. I'm 70 years old now, but I'll never forget the night I met Jimi and shook his hand. They say you should never meet your heroes, but I sure am glad I met mine!
I too am 70 years old, and I too saw him live in 1968. I was 420 miles south of you in Virginia Beach when his music set the auditorium on fire and changed my musical direction completely. I am thankful his music was all his own and therefore is timeless. I am still grooving to him. After hearing all the others--all the great ones who have come since he broke ground for them--I still resort back to him when I want to listen to pure, unique and mind-blowing innovation. Brother, I can so relate to your words and feelings about this man and his music.
@@malcolmhill7932 So great to hear from a fellow Hendrix fan, and fellow survivor of the late 20th and early 21st centuries! There is an ancient Chinese curse which says, "May you live in interesting times!". Well we certainly have, and lived to tell about it. What a long, strange trip its been! I know exactly what you mean about needing a shot of that pure creative innovation. The thing about the late 60s was that something completely new was being created. Almost every week we were hearing sounds that had never been heard before. From The Beatles to Hendrix to Coltrane and Miles, the creative floodgates were wide open. Music, fashion and the arts were a dazzling adventure that we were just the right age to take part in. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man, but most of what I hear and see now, seems to be just a hi-tech rehash of something that I heard 50 years ago. Some of the greatest music ever made was recorded on 4 track analog machines. Now it sometimes seems that the more advanced the technology, the more the product comes out tasting like unsalted oatmeal! We are being auto-tuned to death. Maybe I'm just getting old. Anyway, we were very lucky to have experienced "The Real Deal". The truly original and innovative stays fresh, even through these "interesting times"! Be well and prosper!
I never saw him and love him too!
Damn he shredded that tune. No one can do it better.
Jimi rages right through this Chuck Berry Classic with an ease and power that no one else could. Not only did he not miss a beat, but included improvisational creativity and showmanship, closing with a face melting solo that brought the crowd to their feet leaving them in a state of wondrous awe for this master of the instrument. PBTOTMH
Well put Grace, what does 'PBTOTMH' mean?
That solo was like: Jimi, the band and A MUSIC ENTITY. He conjured it.
I'm so delighted that yet another generation can appreciate the overwhelming talent that Jimi Hendrix brought forth. The recording was originally released on "Hendrix in the West" on the Reprise label in 1972 and is no longer in print. The album has, in my view, about the best live performances of Hendrix ever caught on tape. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) is probably all time my favorite Hendrix recording.
Their was a live album where he played hound dog the Elvis version . I only saw it once, in,
a record store, but, never again.
That was some album indeed!s
I Don't Live Today on the West album is epic.
Suggested: _Machine Gun_ live at the Fillmore East...
Won't survive due to copyright. But yeah, that is a seminal song with the footage available. Thank god it was filmed!
100% agreed....
Machine Gun at Filmore, 11+ minutes. Life affirming sound.
Greatest solo of all time
JIMI’s best and the BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER RECORDED
The greatest rock n roll number ever played live by anyone, anywhere. end of story. Everyone else before and since have been doing something else altogether.
Well said brother. Indeed. Hendrix is akin to Beethoven, Van Gogh, Michaelangelo etc. A MASTER.
"Axis Bold As Love"...my absolute favorite Jimi song!!!!
Yes, its great!! Not sure if my favorite, but definitely top 5! That outro guitar solo still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up after 35 years of hearing it!
Yeah, Bold As Love..... Respect to John Mayer playing and singing that at the same time is tough.
You haven't seen Jimi Hendrix at his best until you've seen him do "Wild Thing" from the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Jimi established his iconic status by pulling out all the stops in this performance (playing his guitar behind his back was my favorite part) then finishing by setting his guitar on fire. To this day nobody has come within light years of that ground-smashing performance. I'm not sure the entire video is on CZcams anymore because I've only seen bits and pieces. But find it if you can, even if you watch it privately. It's worth it.
I am so happy to see new generations appreciate the KING
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
Loving yr floyd, zep, sabs and Jimi reactions and perspective. As a teen, it was THIS performance of Johnny B Goode was the one that turned me onto Hendrix and what a magical world of extraordinary music it opened up to me, and now awaits you! Hey Joe (his 1st single) and this performance, were a perfect place to start your Henfrix journey. I'd definitely recommend; Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary, May This Be Love, Are You Experienced?, If 6 was 9, Castles Made of Sand, Have You Ever Been To Electric Ladyland, Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), All Along The Watchtower, Angel, Machine Gun, Ezy Ryder, Peace In Mississippi, and, In from the Storm ….for starters!
So many greats by Hendrix. I was introduced to Jimi in his '"Band of Gypsies" LP Live at the Fillmore East in '72 and it still sounds as good as the first time I heard it. Every cut, including the classic "Machine Gun" is the stuff of legend.
That is the perfect example of a screaming Strat.
Every time I hear this gives me goosebumps that man was awesome
Jimi, Jimi. The man can imprint his entire soul on every single note for precise expression. The best still, in My Old Pinion.
1983… A merman I shall turn to be. Electric Ladyland
Let's just say and admit Johnny B. Goode was about Jimi Hendrix.
Thank you for playing my suggestion
Out of this world playing even today. Imagine listening to this in 1969.
Thanks for bringing us Jimi--a guitarist for the ages!
he got a little cuty smile so sad i loved him!!
I have never heard Jimi do Chuck--only on this channel! I saw Chuck in concert when I was 17. He was a bit nasty at the show he sang My Dingaling. Loved it. It in a concert hall on the beach in a small Canadian vacation town. Cheers
JIMI could make his guitar talk. Loved the reaction when he played with his teef LMFAO!!!!!! Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock
EVERY song by Jimi Hendrix is worth reacting to. Trust me there! LOL Sadly, most of his music and videos get blocked. But you should certainly check out as much Jimi as you can. We'd all love to see your reactions so hopefully some more you do will survive. I am surprised this one didn't get blocked. You are the first reactor I have seen to do this one. And its hot as fire. Great one for you to see glad we got to share your reaction!
@bigstU25 Absolutely! As I never saw any other reactor videos, I assumed it was one that just got blocked. I know SoulTrainBro did MG from New Year's 1970 and that didn't survive. But yes, this video performance is one that really showcases Jimi's talent. The Berkeley shows Jimi seemed to be in great spirits and it shows in his performance. Other videos, like Isle of Wight and Stockholm you can see Jimi just isn't in to it, seems moody etc. Maui is another good one where Jimi seems not to be distracted by the pressures and hassles he was enduring.
@bigstU25 Oh yeah, agree on all points there man. Copenhagen is incredible! There is a four or five source merge of all the audience tapes in circulation and it really improves the sound and dynamic of that concert. Hard to believe two week after that he was having his last night on earth. :(((((((((((((((((((((((((( Newport jam Day on June 22/69 is also great footage. And of course BoG. Sadly there isn't enough Jimi video available to really do him justice. He was so dynamic live! It just sucks that some of the video that does exist of him is either poorly shot, sadly incomplete or he isn't in greatest frame of mind. IoW is great, and the ones you mention are killer, but the overall concert you can just see how is bothered or disinterested or wasn't in a jovial frame of mind, like he was at Berkeley for example. Nice hearing from someone who has more than a cursory interest in Jimi!
Jimi playing guitar upside down playing left handed on a right-handed guitar awesome
go jimi go
Purple haze, Foxy lady, Manic depression, Wind cries Mary, Are you experienced.
"Chuck Berry was the first to try the idea out in his 1958 classic “Johnny B. Goode.” The song's story arc tracked Berry's real-life rise from a humble unknown to a world-famous superstar, and the singer used his childhood address-2520 Goode Avenue-in his protagonist's name."
* Knowing you are getting in Jimi Hendrix in 2021 speaks to his immortality...not everyone gets that guaranteed.
- Machine Gun..."...and oh yeah, all the soldiers fighting in Vietnam."
"There's just not enough love man." (Jimi Hendrix)
Don’t forget the drummer. He was beating them drums !
Mitch Mitchell
Just a comment...this performance believe it or not was just a jam Jimi decided to play at Berkeley and killed it!!
that's true....Johnny B Goode what the hell :)
@@dadmateryn8092 ...Yesss!! Exact words!!
@@kelvendyson1508 thumbs up!
Jimihad a great sound that night. I believe the next number was 'Hear My Train a Comin'.. An absolutely stunning live performance. Check it out! Keep up the good work.
All along the watchtower, Voodoo Child, and I think you will love Red House, one of my favs. Check it out...
Red House awesome track
But for me Little Wing... prettiest guitar music ever
Love Jimi he is #1 in my book. Frank Marino (of Mahogany Rush) has the most intense cover of "Johnny B Goode" check out the live version here on the 'tube.
A STONE COLD SOUL BROTHER
for another live firestorm try Jimi Hendrix "Voodoo Child Live At Woodstock "
for the big hits and iconic songs, try "All along the watchtower" "The wind cries Mary" "Purple Haze" " if 6 was 9" "Fire"
for slow wailing blues "Red House" "Machine Gun"
Or purple haze at Woodstock
"All Along The Watchtower" is my favorite Hendrix song. Well, written by Bob Dylan, but Hendrix played it brilliantly.
Jimi is the greatest forever!!!
i like her shes think shes gonna listen to rock & roll but with hendrix its a little deeper than this
Johnny B Good can't be played any better than this.
The tune "hey baby" and hear "my train"... machine gun
My personal favorite
Dolly Dagger.
She drinks the blood from a jagged edge
May This Be Love.
Jimi was a legend and also one of the fathers of Rock and Metal.
"Hey Joe" Live at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. That's a great one! "Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock in 1969..."Fire" live or studio sounds great. "Purple Haze, live as well!✌
What can you say...a great icon!!!!!
When Jimi released this Chuck Berry cover JBG...i couldnt believe what i was hearing !.,before Jimi no one ever heard a guitar sound like that..
If you play guitar, you will be bowing to him after hearing this for the first time.
Its just so fucking great.
Just for the sake of saying you saw it, you should probably watch his "star spangled banner" from Woodstock. It's iconic. It's what people reference when they say "yeah but no one was doing - anything - like that at the time. He changed everything in rock"
He made the impossible Possible to true God of the Guitar 🎸
I read somewhere that over 200 covers have been done of Johnny B. Goode.
Jimi Hendrix Little Wing ..a gem
Best version,EVER!
Jimmy learned to play with his teeth from the Chicago West side blues boys. Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and others. Buddy at 83 Still plays guitar with his teeth. 😇
His solos in this live version are amazing, he gets certain harmonics that Jimi just gets from time to time by accident
Every version of Johnny be good is Great!!!!
L.A. Forum, Maui... Paul McCartney said he was like a meteor that flashed across the sky...
Alllthe greats die young Live Large!
Jimi universal 🎸
Jimi was Army 101st Airborne, a veteran.
You said everything, my beauty! So cool to see you dancing! Why such a shy guy, a kind, gentleman, with so much talent, died so young? Shit world! JIMI, will stay the greatest guitarist, not only in Rock, but, one of the better musician, composer, of all time, with Mozart, BEETHOVEN, CHOPIN, Bach, and others! A monster! Not coming from our planet!
Its very painful Scribe, to love Jimi is to also be heartbroken but its well worth it!
Rock n roll anthem!!!
the best guitar player to ever walk on the planet
Scribe! Jimi's 'Red House' live at Newport Jazz Festival. He truly does some super human stuff on the guitar... soooooo soulful 😲
Manic Depression - The Wind Cries Mary - Red House (never heard this version - HEAVYYY
ScribeCash You have to listen to 'Like a Rolling Stone' and 'Live at Monterrey' Jimi
loved what he was playing then. It shows in the quality of these performances.
Singing, rhythm and lead
That crying note at 4:01 kills me every time I hear it!!! How does he do that????
Dad Materyn by playing unbelievably loud
It's amp feedback...combined with Jimi magic skills 🎸🤘
Machine Gun Live at the Fillmore East. Others have stated but you have not done. What a earth shattering performance.
Machine gun New Year’s Eve live at the Fillmore !970 with the band of Gypsy’s, one of my favourite moments in rock history. Voodoo Chile slight return (long version) with 19 year olds Steve Winwood another classic of Jimmy’s.
Jimi is the man definitely my favorite performance by him. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
The God's had to throw Jimi Hendrix in the mix to take over totally awesome 😂
Not only is Jimi Hendrix the greatest rock guitarist, he, interestingly, picked the strings of a standard guitar with his left hand with the neck in the opposite direction (somewhat similar to Paul McCartney of the Beatles) - take a look...
My favorite T'giving dish used to be turkey, but since listening to your reactions, my new favorite dish is $cribecashed potatoes with rock 'n roll gravy!
he was a member of the 27 club a long list of famous people who died at 27yrs.
That’s wild
I don't know if Scribe reacted to The Doors yet? Another member of the Famous 27, Jim Morrison doing the band's greatest hits. Speaking of the Doors, drummer, John Densmore sued Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and Robby Krieger, guitarist plus founding members of Doors, John's former bandmates for the the use of copyright name of The Doors with Ian Ashbury, Cult's singer. Members settled out of court as Ray and Robby agreed to naming The Doors of the 21st Century when 2 founders wanted to go back touring. This is similar to Queen when John Deacon, former Bassist plus one of the original members of Queen has a say in Day to day operations because other surviving members of Queen are still touring today. They have American Idol's Adam Lambert as their singer. Band's name is...
Queen + Adam Lambert officially because John was planning to sue them in Copyright infringement even though they also have a say in band's activities too but they need blessing from John to use Queen. John left Queen right after Freddie Mercury's death. He had joined the band in some reunions. But he is retired from touring.
@@ScribeCash and he was born (1942) on the 27th... (november)
Basically, all the HENDRIX'S STUDIO ALBUMS, WERE MASTERPIECES, YOU CAN LISTEN TO THERE! BUT, there are so much other lives, you could listen TOO! LIKE I SAID, BAND OF GYPSIES, WOODSTOCK, BUT LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST 1968,IS CRAZY TOO! ETC.....
All Along the Watchtower, Purple Haze, Manic Depression, Wind Cries Marry, Castles Made of Sand, Are you experienced, Crosstown Traffic
3 things I love: Scribecash, Jimi, Formula 40-fucking-9.
🙌🏾
Suggest these: Purple Haze, All Along the Watchtower, Bold as Love, Little Wing & Are You Experienced (in that order). Also Red House.
Also I'd heavily suggest Bob Dylan: Tangled Up in Blue, Shelter From the Storm, Visions of Johanna, Things Have Changed, Like a Rolling Stone & It's All Over Now Baby Blue (preferably in that order). Please with Dylan stick to studio versions. He can be unintelligible live.
Bekka Noyb - his epic live - It's Alright Ma I'm only bleeding!!!
Scribe I’ve been a Jimi fan and been playing guitar since 1980 and so I’ve listened to ALOT of Jimi! Here are my favorites;
LIVE: Star Spangeled Banner (Woodstock)
Killing Floor (Radio One)
Driving South (Radio One)
Red House (Stockholm)
Rock Me Baby (Monterey)
Machine Gun (Band of Gypsys)
STUDIO: 3rd Stone From the Sun
Red House
Wind Cries Mary
Axis Bold As Love
Little Wing
All Along the Watchtower
Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
House Burning Down
His version of Born under a bad sign is incredible.
JImi did EVERYTHING HARD his Guitar Playing & Unfortunately his Drugs.
Red House, Third Stone from the Sun, Are you Experienced ?,All along the Watchtower.......... Good start !
Gotta love Jimmy. Shortly after Chuck Berry passed away Ted Nugent as a tribute sitting next to his fireplace at home played a solo of Johnny B. Good that was unbelievable. CZcams it and check it out.
If you can find the live version of "Little Wing" from the album "Hendrix in the west" ("Johnny B Goode" is on that album too) the guitar solo on that is just about perfect
That album has his best version of Red House as well. And I Don't Live Today.
Jimi live Monterrey pop festival 67 wild thing will blow your mind
The one and only.
Songs: The Watchtower, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, Fire, The Wind Cries Mary, Little Wing, Manic Depression, Voodoo Chile, Cross Town Traffic.....there are many to choose from. There are many disciples, but Jimi is the real deal. The disciples are trying to emulate Jimi, but not one of them has so far. There are many good guitarists, but there can only be one GUITAR GOD. Light years ahead of his time musically, nobody could touch him back then, and the likelihood is nobody can now. One word describes Jimi, genius. A cool, mellow, gentle dude off stage, somewhat shy, quiet, and retiring, with impeccable manners, but on stage with a guitar in his hands a force to be reckoned with. I will never see his like again in my lifetime. I was fortunate enough to be with him at a number of gigs while he was alive. When he died I wept. The greatest loss to music of an entire century. Incredible? Special? Gifted? Jimi was beyond all of these. He was on another plane to all the rest. Enjoy....you are looking at the first man to make the guitar talk.
Check out Purple Haze live by Jimi Hendrix one of his best performances !
You might try his performance at the Monterey Pop festival or at Woodstock and while doing that check out The Who at the same festivals.
You should react to his original recordings like Little Wing, One Rainy Wish, Wind Cries Mary, Castles Made of Sand, it was his recording techniques that made history, his live performances usually didn't match his studio work with a few exceptions. Just buy his greatest hits CD and you will have it forever. Love your reactions.
Just saw a reaction video of Jimi doing Hey Joe at Monterey Pop, so I guess you can do that one cause its Live. You can get a Greatest hits video, and " Are you Experienced", song on a Vietnam album which you should do.
Do " little Wing", from the greatest hits Album, if it's the original, which I doubt.
If you can find it do "Bold As Love", from the Axis : Bold As Love album. Might be on the Greatest hits album on YT.
"Foxey Lady" at Miami Pop
I think bold as Love is only on Vimeo from the Album Axis Bold as Love.
Of coarse the 1st song learnt of Jimi, All Along the Watch Tower, written by Bob Dylan.

I still get chills at 4:10 w that note he hits in the 2nd solo. My God.
btw….great story. My uncle’s first day here when he moved from Greece he was walking around the village in the city n he stops by a bar(Cafe Wha?). He says he sees a black guy on stage playing a guitar w his teeth n behind his back. Hah!!
