We used to take our dogs walking to the lake at Delaware state park, in ohio, we come across probably hundreds of crappies and white bass. I've done the same thing different times, had really good luck using them for catfish. I have no doubt you will also. Thanks for sharing your ice fishing video. Those are gizzard shad. Skip Jack are a totally different species. Check out Kayak Catfishing channel or Catfish Dave on CZcams and you can have a better understanding of different baits for catfish. Skip Jack are the preferred bait for most serious cat fishermen .But at times and on different lakes and rivers other baits may work as good or better. Dieter Melhorn Fishing on CZcams has great success using chicken. Catching bait is sometime the hardest part about catfishing for me anyway. But FREE is always good. You are doing a wise thing collecting these shad. Take them home dry them off good. News paper makes a good drying towel then vacuum seal them and freeze them. That's the best way I've found to keep bait. I am subscribed to your channel. Good stuff.

One more thing. I am no expert by any stretch of the mind. But I would suggest using the shad as soon as the ice melted because the catfish will be feeding on them.
