Whats all the talk they are saying about the transmission haunting for gears? I’m test drove a 2017 highlander limited today and all I noticed is that the rpms jump up to 4 and 5 with normal acceleration? Is that normal? I don’t think it’s good is it?

First Highlander which I liked!
The interior is very nice for a Toyota and the exterior looks good! One thing makes me sad... when you have projectors and no HID's or LEDs for headlights.

Agree with other comments. My cheap Prius 2017 comes with LED. What's up with a 40K highlander? I may just opt for a Acura MDX with little more money for more luxury.
Love the design of the MDX myself but the reliability of that 9speed on the Acura is concerning.

This is not the platinum version, with the limited platinum you get heated steering wheel 2nd row captains chairs and panoramic roof, those are the main things I noticed between the limited and limited platinum...
due to demand, in 2017 a 2nd row 60/40 split bench was offered as an option on the limited and the limited-platinum over the standard 2nd row captains chairs.
Highlander has gone a long way, and this should be the SUV that should replace the sequoia. Sequoia should be scraped bc it's too old and it doesn't have a major refresh.

I just got my highlander and it is way too much tech stuff! But I'm learning. Tonight I went out and turned on my headlights - and fog ights - I never did see the little red square lights in the back lower bumper - I thought they would be on when fog lights are on but they werent. Any info?

JOZEZAZO HD Probably the highlander because the engine components and materials are from a U.S Hilux and a Lexus transmission plus 15+ years of reliability and cheap maintenance. But if you're willing to pay the price for repairs on the CX-9, then you should buy the CX-9.
JOZEZAZO HD yeah, the highlander because I know some people who bought a cx-9 and the shifter got locked where it would be really hard to shift and it took like 3 days to fix

Nandu Patel pretty sure that it doesn't that bench seat only because of the battery that's in the middle. Might be wrong though.
Yeah. By default they come with captain chairs but bench seats are an option.

doesn't seem to have a bumper in the front , the slightest bump in the front could cost a fortune to fix.
i guess you don't park your car at places like the mall or walmart where some people ( especially the elderly) can't seem to judge the distance in front of them when parking their car.

The tiny bumps for aerodynamic is BS. They are way too small to make any difference. Better then these bumps would be to keep the front of the vehicle similar to Toyota RAV, which is much more aerodynamic to the point of noticeable performance. The front of these car is almost a flat wall. Who comes up with this Design? The car is already so big, it needs as much aerodynamic as possible. The side mirrors design is also a disaster...
The 2017 Toyota Highlander has a lower drag coefficient than a Smart Fortwo, SSC Ultimate Aero, and even my Acura RSX.

Pano moonroof is available only on the top trim, Limited Platinum. With the 2017 Highlanders you have the option to get the bench seat on even the top trip levels. 2014-2016 Limited/Limited Platinum models only came with captain chairs.

All these features were added for 2020. There’s a reason it wasn’t available in 2017-2019. They wanted to give you a reason to upgrade.

Out of over 800 videos only 120 are of a Dodge.
What's the story on the transmission, a lot of people getting their 8 speed transmissions replaced seems their is a problem. CZcams videos on whining noises and on the internet customers commenting on having there transmissions replaced because of noise and breakdown issues. Is this on a bad batch or a design or production defect.

I did not say that something is wrong with Halogens, just a bit dated in term of auto head light technology. It is like saying nothing is wrong with the incandescent bulbs we used at home either but they are dated, inefficient and, guess what?, most were replaced with LED bulbs. I just wanted to point out that halogens are just not as cool and as efficient as LEDs :).
dcpc08161992 LEDS are low heat, low powered, high lighted lights which are good but Halogens are okay too. I mean they are lights we use them for seeing.
the Corolla under $20k comes standard with LED headlights. Why Toyota is so cheap with the Highlander?

805gregg My Subaru Forester got a new engine at 40k. My wife's Subaru Forester is getting a new engine today at about the same mileage. Both were burning about a quart per month. It happens, that's why you got a warranty - both were covered.
Sometimes you get a bad one or one not taken care of. My brother in law has had a few of these and never had any issues with them.
You have to take care of your car even when you buy it new. Maintaince is VERY important on all cars. I've never had a problem with any car and I've owned many different brands and Toyota and Honda have been one of the best ones.
