This ZD Racing RAPTORS BX-16 9051 1/16 scale electric brushless RTR off-road buggy with 2.4GHz 3CH proportional remote was sent to me for a review by rcmoment.com
Thank you very much!
In this video:
- Unboxing
- In depth look
- Teardown
- Short test drive (stay tuned for bash in part 2)
Features:
- 4WD
- Brushless combo (rebranded Racerstar): 2435, 3300KV motor, 25A ESC
- 2.4GHz 3CH proportional
- Oil filled shocks
- Ball bearings
- 1500mAh 7.4V (2S) LiPo
- Mains voltage (110-240V) charger included. Charging current 800mA. Suitable for 2S & 3S Lithium batteries with standard balance plug.
What I like on this car:
- Very smooth oil filled shocks (really!)
- Very grippy off road tires with foam inside
- Adjustable toe (front only) and camber
- Very good steering with no dead zone around the center position and very little backlash
- 3 pin steering servo
- Steel pinion Metal bevel gears
- Steel central driveshaft
- Steel driveshafts & CVD
- Low center of gravity
- The steering trim pots (dual rate & center position)
- Proper self tapping screws are used for plastic parts
- Long run time of about 20 minutes (depending on throttle)
What not:
- Plastic transmission cups (only on the differential side)
- Plastic spider gears
- Plastic spur gear is unprotected
- The throttle trim pot (a throttle dual rate pot would have been better)
- The main switch and the ESC capacitors are flapping around in the breeze
The measured wheel RPM (without load) is 3100. If you do the gear ratio math with the 3300KV motor and the 11 tooth motor pinion, it should be 2474. So I believe, the used motor is the 4500KV version. The theoretical speed is 42km/h.
With the optional 16 tooth pinion it would be 61km/h in theory.
All in all this buggy is a winner. The build quality is way better than in a WLtoys A959 for example. Unfortunately spare parts are a bit hard to get. EDIT: Here you can get some of them: www.emphobby.us/category-s/18...

Today we have a very nice brushless buggy here for a review. It was very kindly supplied by RCmoment.com. If you want to buy one, you can find the link in the description.
Nice review, cool buggy 👍
Thanks. Yes, it is. Very good build quality. Hobby grade in my eyes.
Nice looking buggy!
Yes, the build quality is way better than in a WLtoys A959 for example. And it even is brushless.
Thanks for the video. Can you please tell me when I can put a brushless motor TrackStar 380 motor in it? And which is better this ZD or the Wltoys 14400. Thanks for your advice.
Yeah, looks like a great buggy.I was going to get one (and probably should have) but I got the Trojan pro from Nitrotek instead and it broke after about 1 week, so this is terrible for a £100 buggy -so I sent it back to Nitrotek, hope they will repair it. I got the ZD racing D16 drift car and that is really reliable, plus it goes for 30 mins per charge. Maybe I will get one in a few weeks time.
The spare parts support is not the best, but now, after about one year it's getting better
Well done I want 1 keep up the good work
Thanks for the praise. You can find a discount coupon in the description.
TheDIYGuy999 heres a little story for you.
Not long ago I wss working on a drone.my dad called me a dinosaur. I thought about it for about a week.and I realized he was sauing most people dont fix their own things .most take it to someone else
Fixing your own things is an ability, that needs to be preserved. I always try to fix broken stuff, even if there are no spare parts available. You‘re on the right way. Keep it up.
Can these be upgraded?
What size of hexes tires?
Excuse me, i have the zd raptors truggy version. Mt-16. Is there any fix for the rubbish diff cups.???
hope fully someone makes a metal upgrade diff
Fun car but beware of the plastic transmission cups. 2 broke on my first run.
Yes, I have mentioned that they are plastic. But no issues so far after about 5 batteries. Where did you buy your replacement parts?
Hi, very good video. Could you put a battery with more discharge c? for example 1500mah 20c, 1500mah 25c ... how much download can this car endure?
Hi, thanks. The c rating of a battery can never be too high. But if it is too low, the battery will expand and finally die.
What c rating do you recommend for this car?1500mah xC...
The ESC is rated for 35A. So: 35A divided by 1500mAh (1.5Ah) = 23.3c, if you want to be at the safe side. The original battery is 15c
👍👍👊👊📹📹very nice!
Thanks! Yes, it is. Very good build quality and very smooth shocks.
Does the ESC tolerate 3S?
No. It is a rebranded 25A Racerstar ESC like this one: www.banggood.com/Racerstar-ESC-25A-Brushless-Waterproof-116-118-RC-Car-Part-p-1082605.html?p=NZ29024828314201605E
Raptor BX-16 vs WlToys 144001. Plisss 🙏🏻
Can I put a 3 cell on this
No, the ESC is not rated for 3S
is there a connection to add some lights on the battery?
There is an unused 3 pin servo connector on the receiver. You can use it for LED lights
I have a question, will this differential gear goo.gl/EVmFfZ be fit for this model? Thx
No, it‘s 1/10 scale
