    Thank you for sharing. I have been looking into this recently. I also am adopted but was raised by the white side of my family who couldn't teach me anything about the filipino culture. I am always trying to learn more.. and it has been a lonely journey.

    Those tattoos we're mostly practiced in the Cordillera region, where people hunted heads as a trophy a long time ago. We are called, Igorots, or people used to refer to us as people with tails! Those tattoos symbolizes strenght for men and represents beauty for women. But you represent BOTH. Strong and beautiful. ❤️

      We all tattooed, not just in the Cordillera. From Luzon, Visayas, to Mindanao. The pintados the Spaniards called my ancestors.

      I am here for our research project about local tattoos. I am from Visayas, Leyte in Particular which is also well-known for Pintados. Pintados is a famous body painting that signifies bravery and social rank. Pintados is a pre-colonial culture. That was before they killed our own culture.

    I just got done writing you a letter on Instagram and I guess I just wanted to know the real story behind your tattoos. Listening to your story I started to tear up a little. I share a little bit with your story through my grandmother whom I miss so much. My grandma was an orphan who came to the United States during the Great Depression. She always told us how much her family that she created with my grandpa was so important to her because she didn’t know where she came from or who her family was that she was born into. They met when my Grandpa’s navel ship came in to dock in New York. They met at the ice skating rink in Central Park. Married at 18 years old I think and they were happily married for the rest of their lives. My grandpa passed away at age 68 and my grandma at 82 . I honestly think that she passed away from a broken heart. She missed him so much she stopped eating and fell sick. They are together now. She’s one of my guardian angels I still feel her around me. Anyway I thought I would share that with you for some reason.

      I’m glad you want to get them the right way. You’d need to research Polynesian tattoo artists. I can recommend some Filipino, Hawaiian and Samoan ones but not sure what you’re looking for

    • @kilipaki87oritahiti
      @kilipaki87oritahiti Před 3 lety

      Unless you know for sure, don’t just get them. Re sesrch your own ancestors, lineage erc. Huge taboo to get the marks of someone else’s tribe, ethnic group, if not your ancestors. Best way is to take a DNA test. I did. Then I asked a cultural practitioner who has the knowledge to find the appropriate markings for me in regards to my ancestors, tribe and ethnic background.

    It would be nice if you only wear a beads (jewelry)to cover your your chest to accent your tattoos. That is how I saw it. They only wear jewelry for tops , That is how they present themselves. Usually cost a number of carabaos( beads Jewelry) Gold is actually easier to find in the Philippines. The girls have gold but they present themselves in beads for decoration.
    The way it goes is you decorate with jewelry to honor your husband(Warriors keep land and take everything from their opponents) and decorate with tattoos for the afterlife. My folks are also quiet because they are always working.
    And you are very beautiful.
    It is also customary to decorate your daughter for beauty and prestige.
    Nowadays the government is highlighting the weavers to sell fabric to France but in the past the tops is bead works or jewelry because that is the only proof that you don't talk shit. Keep quiet and work and leave your jewelry to your kids and cross with your tattoos to the afterlife.

    I want to get my tribe's full upper body tattoo but I can't cause its culturally not appropriate for men to get tattoos without going to war and collecting their enemy's heads (yes we hunted heads during wars), for women like my grandma they get tattoos to symbolize beauty do they can get it til now
    Edit: I'm from Cordillera so I don't know the rules of the katagalogan where your tattoos came from

    • @kilipaki87oritahiti
      @kilipaki87oritahiti Před 3 lety +1

      There are tattoos that are not headhunting tattoos. I’m Ilonggo, my lola was from Negros Western Visays. We all took heads and where tattoed to head to toe all over the Philippines. I carry the creation mark of my tribe on my forehead🤷🏾‍♀️ I’m not dead nor has my kaliwatan cursed me yet😝 You can’t go out and take heads anymore to “earn” one, so needs to adapt to how we live today... it’s a common misconception that we only had to earn our markings. It’s enough to be “Filipino”. It’s in our blood. Our ancestors are always with us.

    • @rgbb9502
      @rgbb9502 Před 3 lety

      @@kilipaki87oritahiti Well yes of course not every tattoo is for headhunting but for my tribe here in Cordillera males should earn their tattoo through hunting animals or from battles but now a days its rare for tribal wars(the government has no control of tribal war deaths) to escalate so not a lot has completed their tattoo. Tattoo for females and outsiders(visitors) are just ar-arti(decoration).
